(i think my poppet already has her own personality, i can already hear her talking to me  Cheesy)

Oh they do. It's hard sometimes with the first one but sometimes it's like they are just shouting at you! She'll tell you what she wants for hair and eyes. Smiley

It's nice to know that I'm not the only schizo in the thread!  Cheesy Bronwen was very quiet and unopinionated, and the puppy was just eager to be made, but my 3rd has been chatting her little soul out since I started cutting her pieces out. She even told me her name already!

I still haven't closed up her appendages, torso or head, but last night I added eyes and eyelids and eyelashes. I would say it was a stupendous failure, the eyelashes in particular. UGH. I used tinselly looking costume eyelashes from Target, positioned, repositioned, repositioned, repositioned, finally committed and glued... then trimmed.... and OMG they look like a preschooler took her scissors to her eyelashes. BAD. Chopped and uneven, even to each other. If they weren't glued down with the safety eye and felt "whites" and eyelids I would just trash the eyes and try again, but everything is pretty well permanent on that head. I'm considering starting another head.

Stitch - Many, many people have made the dress, so you will certainly hear some useful advice. I haven't made it, because I had the same questions that you do. And I noticed that all of Bronwen's shirts and dresses don't really fit under her arms, but I don't think that her arms are too low. I'm interested to hear how everyone else's poppets fare with this issue...

Yay for Howl! His hair looks wonderful, and I second Eliea's suggestion of fitting another piece over the top to similuate a part, styled to go with the rest of the hair. So exciting!

Stitch, your poppet is really cute! Is your yarn called eyelash yarn? It looks like it would be evil to work with, but it's a great color!

Last week my 2yr old managed to knock a few misc items off my "craft dresser" and now I can't seem to find my arm jointing shank buttons -- argh. So I'm trying out a couple of those flimsier covered buttons in the right size that I happen to have in my stash. The little lady I'm working on now is another learning poppet, so I doubt she'll see any play, let alone rough play. I hope.

So I finally bit the bullet and started an Elinore. I cut the pieces the night before last and sewed a few of them up. Sewed the rest last night and then spent HOURS turning fingers. No, really. HOURS. There were a few moments when I actually contemplated suicide. As it turns out, I have too much to live for.

In the end, the fingers are turned and wired and all the parts are stuffed. I'm at the ladder-stitching stage which fills me with dread, but then eyes and sculpting and jointing and hair and --heeeeeeeeee-- a doll!

On a side note, I wandered into our local Walmart to see if they had any alova, which I've never worked with, and lo and behold, they do, in several vivid colors. I ended up buying just a yard of the tamest taupe, but I also discovered butter suede and bought 1/2 yard of that (all I could afford) and I haven't cut it or sewn it or anything, but I love it so much, every once in a while I have to open the drawer it's in and pet it. It's true love.

Anyone worked with butter suede? What's it like to sew?

She's wonderful! All of the details really add to her personality. I am especially enthralled with your needle sculpting. How cute are her knees? And what a face!
*blown away*

So sweet! I'd like to give you a little hug!

I think painted eyes would be adorable, but whatever you decide to do, I look forward to seeing the results!

She's sweet! The kind of sweet with hidden depths, for sure.

I love the idea that she's a nymph for a dark, deep, still pool. It gives me inspiration tingles...

He's fabulous! Nice job. Very snuggable.

It's so funny that he's popping up all over the place -- or that I'm noticing him lately.  Roll Eyes Even my big boy has requested I make him a Domo for his eighth birthday. *scratching head*

Aira's cute! Can't wait to see her with clothes and hair all done.  Wink

How was the wig to make? A trial? Totally wonderful?

And what a story! Heart-wrenching, dramatic, emotional... She shall overcome! *tear*

She's adorable! I love her big hair and the idea of early-season Willow just tickles me down to my toes.

Great job with the hand sewing!
