1  ponyo is a fish child. in CHALLENGE 48 ENTRIES by minc on: March 04, 2010 02:33:30 AM
after seeing all the cute/awesome/great/beautiful/creative entries from everyone (and encouragement from other craftsters), i decided to enter too! my first challenge (although its just a very simple creation, as compared to other creative posts) =D

some of u may have already seen my initial thread on the polymer clay board.. but those pics were without a scale, so i retook some for this challenge.

here u go:

ponyo mobilephone charm! yes, its quite tiny, slightly more than 1cm tall, and 2cm long.

front view.

back. whoops my fingerprints are visible.

i actually made a bunch of them for a charity fundraising effort (as updated in my complete post on the other thread).

hope u like them! and if u are interested, check out my other ghibli sculpts in my complete post! https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=339598.0

2  ghibli love. *updated* in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by minc on: February 27, 2010 04:33:38 AM
i have always been fascinated by clay crafts, and wanted to try my hands on clay.
happened to pass by a craft store having a discount on sculpey, so i bought a bunch.

i love miyazaki, so i decided to recreate some of my favourite characters.

my very first attempts on polymer clay(at least since kindergarten):

kodama (forest spirits) from princess mononoke. these r about an inch tall.

noface from spirited away. about 3" tall.

calcifer from howl's moving castle. 1" tall.

totoro. 1.5" tall.

ponyos. they are about 2/3 of an inch in length.

these were loads of fun to make, and im pretty happy with how they turned out.
they are not glazed yet though.. any suggestions on glaze for sculpey III clay?

thks for viewing! <3

I made a bunch of ponyos into mobile phone charms for a charity fundraising Smiley

before attaching the chains.

They are not going to bring in a lot of money, but oh well, i enjoyed making them, and isn't that the most important thing?

i took nataluna's suggestion and entered the little tiny challenge! check out my entry post here https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=340139.0

3  lotus flower - pixel art using ms excel! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by minc on: November 06, 2009 09:53:58 PM
i have been looking around on the web for a free and idiot proof program to create pixel art, but could find nothing.

yesterday, i suddenly had an insight. why not make use of ms excel's grid table?
running a search on google, i found sites dedicated to excel art!!!
there is even a simple tutorial: http://www.labnol.org/software/spreadsheet-art-painting-with-excel/6074/
i think the background function is only available on the latest ms office though.

my creation:

original picture from stockphoto:

wanted to do a lotus flower cos its beautiful and symbolizes life and purity.
i grayscaled it to emphasize the actual flower rather than the colours.
from searching for an appropriate picture to completion took me about 2 hrs.

it was easy and fun to do, requiring just a little patience =D
i really love how it turned out, and now im really tempted to make a mosaic out of it!

comments are welcome, and post your own attempts too~!

5  chinese ang pao lanterns (lots of images!) in Completed Projects by minc on: February 06, 2008 01:35:21 AM
my first thread!

this is how i spent my aftn preparing for the chinese new year:

paper lantern made of ang paos.

a closer view.

pineapple-shaped. the pineapple is an auspicious item in the chinese culture and is believed to bring wealth.

closer view.

i made this one last new year. its the same as the first pic except for the design on the ang paos.

sorry for the blurry pics. they are taken using my mobile phone as my digicam is not with me.

now, for those who are not familiar with chinese traditions and are wondering what ang paos are, they stand for red packets in chinese dialect. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_packets the "lanterns" are purely for decorative purposes only, and cannot be lit.

heres a pic of what they originally looked like:

the first lantern is made for my cousin, who wanted one since she saw the one i made last year. the pineapple one was tougher to make, and i spent a few hours figuring out how to get the oval shape. it took me around 4 attempts (and wasting tons of ang paos) before finally getting it.

happy lunar new year to everyone and hope you guys like it!
