1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Holy Elvis on: November 05, 2011 01:42:26 PM
The night before our Halloween party my boyfriend's best friend calls with a "simple" request. Can you turn a robe into pants? My sewing skills are pretty basic but that's usually enough for Halloween. I said I would give it a shot. When he showed up...He wanted me to turn this:

into the Elvis costume of his dreams.
Hours later... here is what he got:

I'm pretty darn pleased with myself.
2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Black Swan-ish on: November 05, 2011 01:34:18 PM
For Halloween my boyfriend, Mark, decided he wanted to be Natalie Portman from Black Swan:

Here is how it turned out:

Unfortunately, I don't have close up photos of the detail. The tube top has elastic ruching at the bust and lines of sequins down the front to give the illusion of boning. The feathers were hot glued on while he was wearing it (he wasn't too happy about that one). The tutu was created after reading a number of tutorials on here.  I also applied all of his makeup and styled the wig. My favourite part was seeing him try to put the tights on.

He liked it so much he wanted to give himself the best costume ribbon at our Halloween party.
3  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Now I ain't sayin she a gold digger on: November 01, 2006 07:30:21 PM

I made the dress from a simplicity pattern. It was my first time using a pattern so I was rather pleased with how it turned out. The gloves I bought at the dollar store but took in to make them fit. The helmet I spray painted gold and yes, the light does work.
I was also wearing shoes covered in gold ribbon and a necklace with a little shovel charm on it that I made out of cardboard and spray painted gold.
4  CANADA / Atlantic Canada / st. John's Stitch N Bitch! on: September 23, 2006 03:59:54 PM
This monday the 25th of September at The Ship. 7pm.

The plan is to have it every week but I guess it depends on interest and what not.
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Need etched wine bottle ideas on: September 09, 2006 06:33:03 PM
I'm throwing my boyfriend a surprise party for his 25th birthday at the end of September. He makes wine. One of his presents is going to be a set of etched/personalized wine bottles.
Any suggestions on what I should etch on there? Anyone have any good wine humor?

6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Clay vulvas for the Vagina Monologues - may be considered a little graphic on: February 19, 2006 04:45:38 PM
The group I volunteer with hosts the monologues every year and this year as a side project the cast and crew, myself included, went to a local clay studio and made molds of our vulvas.

We used the pink stuff that dentists use to make molds of your mouth, it smells very minty.

We packed the molds with clay and a week later, after they were fired, we decorated them. They're currently on display in the university library.

Here are two of about 30 that were made.

7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Wheel of Fortune ideas on: October 04, 2005 05:22:03 PM
I live in residence. Last weekend we played Jeopardy and I've decided I want to play wheel of fortune...well, i want to be Vana  Grin. Anywho, does anyone have any ideas on how to make the big spinny wheel or board?
I've pondered taking the arms and back off of a desk chair and taping something to the top...but I don't know how well that'll work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
