1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / yarn for a baby blanket on: September 06, 2010 02:58:04 AM
My cousin is having her first baby and I'm planning on knitting a baby blanket for her for the first time. I would love some suggestions on what fibers and weights would be best to use. I want the blanket to be easy to care for (i.e. machine-washable), durable and pretty much the sort of blanket my future niece or nephew will be carrying around everywhere hopefully Smiley Specific brands and yarns would be great.

Thank you!
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / How long should a toddler's scarf be? on: December 04, 2008 12:02:34 AM
I'm making a scarf for my two-year-old niece but I'm not sure how long I should make it. The general idea I've been getting from Google is about 40". Is this about right, or should it be longer/shorter? I haven't seen her in a while, unfortunately.
3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / car seat covers? on: April 18, 2007 12:52:44 AM
I'm curious if anyone has made car seat covers before.  My boyfriend's asked me to try and do them for his car, and I was hoping I could pick up any kind of tips or advice you guys may have!  Wink
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / fabric suggestions for B6582? on: March 20, 2007 06:04:06 PM
I'd like to make B6582 view A/B (http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/butterick/shop.cgi?s.item.B6582=x&TI='6582'&page=1) with a pretty, but more casual, springy/summer fabric in mind as opposed to the dressier fabrics (crepe, taffeta, etc.) the pattern recommends.  It also suggests lightweight linen, which is a possibility, but I'd like other options to consider as well.  Any ideas?
5  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / Vogue 7416 - bad yoke? on: February 01, 2007 04:20:34 AM
I've spent at least 3 1/2 hours tonight (I wish I was exaggerating) trying to attach the yoke of this pattern's view A (http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/voguepatterns/shop.cgi?s.item.V7416=x&TI='7416'&page=1 [the beige skirt]) to the skirt.  The notches don't match, so I'm basically going by trial and error (lots of error) to line up the center seams of the yoke and skirt.  Has anyone else who has done this skirt encountered a similar problem, is it just my lack of experience, or is this something I should have expected from a skirt with a yoke shaped like that?  Angry

edit: sorry, mods!  I realized I should have put this in Questions.  I promise to have pictures up when I'm finished Tongue

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / shoulder pads? on: January 22, 2007 04:57:16 AM
I'm a long-time lurker who finally made an account in hopes someone could help me out a bit.

I'm in love with this coat:

but it uses shoulder pads.  will omitting them really be so bad? Grin
