1  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Re: Thrifted book pages + printed owls = smexy! on: December 07, 2010 05:23:33 PM
Very cool project! I may have to steal it!

The Five Little Peppers are actually a whole series. How They Grew is the first but it continues through travels and adulthood and marriage, ad infinitum.
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / My thrifty DIY wedding thread 12-18-10 on: July 10, 2010 04:36:49 PM
So my fiance asked me to marry him two weeks ago today (Squeee! Yay!!) We have a pretty small budget ($2000) and I'm very crafty, so we're going to be diy-ing and thrifting almost everything for a wedding of probably 250 to 300 guests. Several people have already volunteered to help, which is great. We're going to use every resource we can beg, borrow, or steal!

Our date is December 18, 2010, one week to the day before Christmas. My colors are cranberry, brown, cream, pale burnt orange, and gold or copper, and the men are wearing kilts.

Here's a picture of usfrom a month and a half ago. His sister hasn't sent the cute ones she took the day we were engaged yet.

Anyway, I thought I'd start my diy wedding thread to show off, I mean share, all the fun things I make!

I'm planning on making:
STDs will be sent via email, Facebook, and phone
invitations will be postcards, vintage style
my dress can't decide on a design yet
his jacket we're reconstructing a suit or tuxedo jacket into a kilt jacket
ring book rather than pillow, we're both bookworms
flower girl pomander she'll only be a year old, so the simpler the better
wrist corsages and boutonnieres cloth flowers or pine cones; the bridesmaids will probably be carrying lanterns
card box
programs pretty simple, one of my bridesmaids will probably design them, and we'll print them on the computer
tablecloths maybe, we may get several bolts of natural muslin, don't know if that counts for diy
centerpieces probably a stack of books with either a lantern or bowl with floating candles on top, with home dried apple and orange slices and pine cones scattered around
food probably a soup bar, salad bar, and finger sandwiches; one of my coworkers offered to help
cake we'll do a small wedding cake for cutting, and a dessert bar; I want to make everything ahead of time and freeze it.
favors probably tea bags in fancy packaging
photobooth/guest book I'll have a white or chalk board that guests can write messages to hold for the camera
decorations we'll probably be having the reception in a school gym, and I have to find ways to disguise it... any ideas are welcome!

I think that's everything! I'll add anything else I think of. let me know what you think!

You have some very cool ideas. And I love the science theme! I hope all your final preparations are going well.

Beautiful! I love everything you did. Especially the photo booth. And the guestbook. And the dress... well, everything!
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Wedding planning thread 5/28/2011 WITH UPDATES! on: July 10, 2010 02:58:42 PM
I love your colors. And the fact that you got your dress for $30! I'm making mine, and I'm going to be spending a whole lot more than that. (Also the two of you are very cute!)
6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Gossamer fabric for decorating a room.... on: July 10, 2010 02:48:03 PM
I know this is way late, and you don't need an answer any more, but maybe it will help someone else who does a search. You can get huge lengths of gossamer (not tulle, organza, or any of the others) at Stumps http://www.stumpsparty.com/catalog.cfm?cat=47452 and other places that have prom decorations. I'm researching it for my wedding reception, too, since I'm going to be in a gym and would like a way to cover the bleachers, etc.

Gossamer is non-woven and sheer, and it looks like maybe a similar price to tulle.
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: fleur de logo reverse applique T shirt on: April 11, 2010 10:33:07 AM
Beautiful! I always love your stuff. And applique and its reverse is what I'm starting to experiment with, too.

That's really pretty. The wide waistband looks right on you, too.

Adorable! I might have to try and copy this!
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: sleepy cover for the eyes.. on: March 04, 2010 08:51:16 AM
That's great! I keep telling myself I need to make one for the exact same reason. The idea I've had looks about the same as yours.
