2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / making a cushion... for a surly big dummy? on: November 02, 2008 05:21:27 PM
hey all. my stepmom just got a surly big dummy. my dad is building it up and i have been handed the job of sewing a cushion for the board for my little sister  (age 5) to sit on. i have a piece of foam but i have no idea what to make the cushion out of. i wanted to make something that would be a nice cotton on one side and something waterproof on the other. its gotta be cute too. its just gonna be a standard rectangle shape...
so i need some help with fabric choice and ideas on how to anchor it to the board/bike so its flippable from one side to the other. it absolutely cant move or else my little sis would go flying.

pic of the bike
the cushion goes ontop of the board that sits over the rear wheel. its like a mini-tandem, except she doesnt peddle. there are little footrests for her feet though. there will probably be panniers on the back as shown in the pic.

any ideas would greattttly be appreciated.
3  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / zomg so good (vegan banana/peanut butter icecream, sans ice cream maker) on: October 15, 2008 04:25:25 PM
its the creamiest vegan "ice cream" ever and you dont need soy or an ice cream maker. uh-huh!

the recipe is simple

2-3 chopped frozen bananas
a couple tablespoons of your favorite (natural!) peanut butter
a splash or two of water

blend it all together until creamy and smooth.

i have a blend-tech blender, which is pretty strong. if you are just using a standard food proccessor, i recommend making sure your bananas arent rock hard.

5  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Summer Sammiches edit:new sammich on: July 08, 2008 11:18:49 AM
Ohh yah its summer. That is why I love to make sammies. Gone are the days of slow cooked veggie chili and soups.
Today I made a really niceee sammy.
-Cherry juice marinated tofu, roasted until slightly cripsy
-roasted zucchini and mushrooms
-garden fresh spinach
-fresh roasted red bell peppers
-red onion
-balsamic vinegar and olive oil
all on a fresh toasted piece of baguette. in my opinion, toasting is really the icing on the cake.

9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / please help me with my dilemma. sewing vinyl? :( on: March 12, 2008 07:00:22 PM
well, at my school there was a bomb threat a week or so ago. so now we are not allowed to carry our books in bags. girls cant have purses anymore.. you cant even have lunch bags Sad now, they eased up on the rules and we're allowed clear bags. problem is, where the heck do you buy clear bags? ive seen the backpack style ones, but they are ridiculously expensive. i want to make one, but i dont know where to start. will the seams be strong enough to hold heavy books? i have access to different types of vinyl. ive sewn vinyl before, but not to the extent i will need to to make a bag.
does anyone have any tips? im in desperate need for a bag to carry my stuff! its such a hassle schlepping everything around.
thank youuu
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / built by you, well me, floral print shortzzzzzzzz on: February 24, 2008 07:43:22 AM
one day i got this really great idea that i should make printed shorts. ohhhh yes. so i borrowed some fabby fabric from the endless closet of boxes of fabric from my sewing class. the pattern is simplicity 3850, its a built by wendy, which i love. i had some trouble with the fly front zipper, the directions were wayyyyy confusing. i had to improvise a little. other than that, the pattern was great.
love my new shortttttz
