1  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Gory Halloween makeup? Oh yeah. on: November 04, 2008 07:50:19 PM
So, as always, Halloween snuck up on me this year, leaving me with limited costume options.
I opted to try my hand at gory makeup, and much to my surprise - I had a little bit of luck.
We threw my brother a 21st birthday party/costume bash and I did his makeup as well. Wish I had better pictures of that..

Shame on my boyfriend for not wearing a costume. Shaaame.

Applying my makeup in class.

You can't really tell, but he had a bullet hole in one side of his head, a black eye, and then this really gross infected gash on his chin.

I only wish I had known that getting of molding wax was a pain.  Undecided
2  California / California: South / Boyfriend-friendly LA craft stops? on: October 15, 2008 06:36:12 PM
Hi Crafters! This is one of my first posts after many, many years of constant lurking.  Grin

I'm visiting LA November 21st - November 24th with my boyfriend. It's both of our first times going, so we're completely clueless as to what to do.
I'd love to take a stop at a great craft/fabric store in LA.
I have a few setbacks though:
     1. We will be without car and completely dependent on the metro.
     2. Unfortunately, my boyfriend is craft-challenged, so it can't be a long stop unless there's something around to keep him busy.

A few other questions:
- We'd like to stay downtown, and have been looking at The Cecil Hotel (trying to keep it cheap and central). Has anyone heard anything about The Cecil? All of the reviews I've read online were good and pretty legit. If not, any suggestions?

- We would also love to take a day and ride the subway to a beach town, lounge and eat good Mexican food. What's our best bet?

- Is Santee Alley worth the trip?

- Last question, I swear. My boyfriend has agreed to take me out to one nice, romantic dinner (kinda roughin' it all the other nights), any favorites?

We're pretty much open to anything. We haven't planned anything for the four days that we're gonna be in town, but we'd like to have some idea as to what we're doing.

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / My first project.. ever? on: February 27, 2007 07:38:51 PM
Other than the occasional button replacement, or something silly like that, I had never sewn until this week in my Drama class.
My teacher was away on Broadway performing in HAIRSPRAY!! (She won the Big Bopper Dance Topper contest, if any of you have heard of it.)
The guys in my class made a joke about how we should make kilts and have her best friend, who's a costume designer come in and substitute for her. Well, we followed through, just as we do with all of our jokes in that class.

Well, to make a long story short, I showed the costume designer a very simple skirt (Awe, no kilts for me.) from Anthropologie, he asked me what he thought I would do to construct it, and told me to get on it.

Without a pattern, or any sewing-related knowledge, I constructed this skirt that I am very proud of. Smiley

My room is pretty boring. Sad

Thanks for looking.  Cheesy
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Birthday present for my soldier. on: January 19, 2007 12:10:56 PM
Okay, so my boyfriends birthday is fast approaching, and he is just as hard to shop for as any other guy.
He's currently living 400 miles away on an army base, so I won't be able to see him to give him a gift.
He's going to Iraq in July and I want to give (hopefully make) him something that he'll be able to take with him, and remember me by. We don't have pictures of us together (because we both think that we take horrible pictures.) So that really shot me down.

Any suggestions?
Thank you sooo much in advance. Smiley

After reading the boyfriend present thread, I decided to cover a pillow with an old t-shirt of mine, but on the back stencil the song "Better Together" by Jack Johnson.

But I'd still like to do something else. Ideas?
