1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Harley Davidson Placemats on: March 26, 2013 06:41:48 AM
I made these Harley Davidson placemats from left over t-shirts from a quilt I made my bf.  We both love them and I made good use of left over $50 t-shirts that would have just been tossed.

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Does anyone have any idea where to find a pattern for a bucket hat on: April 30, 2008 10:51:41 AM
Does anyone out here in craftsterland have any idea how to make (preferably) or where to find a pattern to make a "bucket hat"?  My husbands best friend wants one with mesh sides "to keep my head cool" as he put it.  so of course my husband looked at me and said "you could make one" and so now here i am semi stumped.  I have a kinda good idea how to assemble it and what i want it to look like but i am not sure what size to cut everything.  Is there a standard for this

any ideas would be appreciated

5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Coffee Themed Tablerunner and chairs on: April 08, 2008 06:46:53 PM
Last weekend i went to a bolt sale at an Amish fabric store and found this coffee themed fabric that i wanted to put in my kitchen/dining room.  of course they only had two different ones so this also required a trip to Joann's for 2 more coffee fabrics and some fat quarters but this is the end project-
table runner for top of my buffet--this is my first time working with quilt squares and binding (i just got my first cutting board and rotary cutter recently) so please be kind

the back

and of course since i had more material left i decided the chairs were in need of something new too--
pre recovering

the whole shebang together

So let me know what you think-- I think new dining room curtains are in the future--lol--still have more material left--hehe
6  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / help!!!!! any ideas for what to do with this bedroom????? on: March 06, 2008 10:21:25 AM
ok, so last week i gave my hubby the option of redoing the bedroom or the bathroom and he picked the bedroom (less manual labor required of him).  problem is, i don't know what color to paint it and not sure what would really be relaxing.  i thought i had some colors picked out but when i saw them on a whole wall (lots of paint places have those programs now) they looked horrid.  (thank god for those programs or god only knows what would have ended up being on my walls.)  Here are some pics of my room right now--its yellow, which i love and find very nice to wake up to. (the color is lighter in real life--not quite that bright)

everything furniture wise needs to stay except maybe the tv stand in the corner (i guess i could put the tv on the dresser but i would rather not)  i love the wood and the color of the wood also.  I was also thinking about stripping the paint off the woodwork since i have done this before and loved it but i may still stick with paint since it would be much quicker and i only have a weeks vacation to work on it.

so anyway, any ideas anyone?Huh  would love to hear any and all ideas for this room and how to fix it up some.
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / my new sewing machine cover-- img heavy on: February 29, 2008 09:16:21 AM
i have been having a hard time lately--wanting a pretty new sewing machine cover but not wanting to give up the very first thing that i every made with a sewing machine.  And it fit and was very functional but i wanted something different.  when i first got my machine i made the sewing machine cover and then it covered it for the first four years i had it and then last winter i decided i wanted to teach myself to sew and now i wanted to make one using all my new found skills--you guys know how that is???
so heres the first cover i ever made

And heres the new one i made

close up of the appliques i made for it

For the appliques i had some material that i absolutely love (matter of fact i bought it over a year ago and have been holding onto it for the perfect project and just recently made four corner aprons for me and a friend of mine out of it and just couldn't bear not to use even the scraps that were left so i cut out each pic i wanted and then put interfacing on the back and zigzag stitched around each and every flipping one!!!!!!  I might want to rethink that in the future although they came out darn near perfect i think.  then i used double fusible tape to place them where i wanted them on so that they would stay in place easier when i was sewing them.  (i already had the cover sewed together when this great idea came to me and i had already ripped it out three times (without cussing mind you) so my husband came up with the fusible tape idea to make it easier for me (he is sooo clever sometimes).  i tried to kinda make a room scene with the couch and table and pics on the wall.  the one side has miss smarty (thats me on the side you see when you come in the room-lol. And i love the pic that says "Snap out of it" cuz thats what i always tell myself when i am procrastinating --Lil.  Let me know what you think--did i do a good job or do i just think i did?Huh
8  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / 3 skirts, one pattern, 3 different looks (simplicity 5259) on: February 15, 2008 12:26:02 PM
i absolutely love simplicity pattern 5259

I love it sooo much i made it three times with three different results.  sorry no action pics as i didn't feel like changing my clothes a million times--this first one is in a black and white hounds tooth material and would look great with black heels and a white blouse or even a black blouse.  here's the front with slit

and heres the back sorry about the weird design in the material--must've been the flash cuz there is noooo zebra look to this--its a small black and white check

then i decided i wanted it in denim since the black and white one was just a trial run--i wanted something to look cute with my boots so here's the denim with sparkles (actually i ended up not liking this  on me and am giving it to my friends daughter)

and heres the back
and now finally my most favorite one even though it didn't photo well--its a brown suede like material but very soft with a flower design in the material--sorry not sure really how to describe it or what its called.  i think it will look awesome with my brown knee high boots.  the first pics is the more true of the colors.

9  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / rooftop monster on: October 14, 2007 08:05:34 PM
ok, so Halloween is mine and my husbands favorite holiday, so every year we make one or two outside decorations for our yard.  hopefully, this year no one will steal our lights (last year someone stole them between 3pm when my hubby put them out and 7pm when I came home from work). Anyways, last year for Xmas, hubby asked for "The Home Haunter's Prop Building Handbook by Steven W. Hickman" and this is our first ever monster from this book.  He is supposed to be a wall climber but we are going to make him look like he is crawling off of the roof. By the way this is an excellent book with very good directions on how to build every thing in it with drawings to help you along.  [color]

Here is a pic of the monster while getting a MM and burlap wrap--you start out with a chicken wire for the body shape and soak burlap in the MM and then wrap around body like paper mache

Two coats of the burlap and MM (we ran out of burlap and used a lace type tablecloth for the second layer since that paints up to be his clothes.

Here he is upright to be painted (hubby thinks he looks like the first gay monster

Will post more pics once he finds a place to live and will also post some of our other monsters then too.
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Towel apron for my friend and other things img heavy on: August 24, 2007 09:30:16 PM
 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Like I said, I've been crafty today--here's and apron i made for my best friend.  she asked for an apron and said that her grandmother always had a full one and left the top hang down to use as a towel--so that got me thinking and in the middle of the night (isn't that when the best ideas come???) it came to me--forget the top and put a
towel there for her--what do you guys think--

But I couldn't stop there--i wanted to do something different on the other side--something she could feel pretty in when cooking (she has 4 kids and hubby plus 2 dogs and 2 cats).  so this is the opposite side of the apron--I thought maybe the pockets ended up too high but she said they were perfect where they were (good thing--lol)

But then I had the other side of the towel left--

And then I had some more denim left--so i made a grocery bag holder--
