1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Black and white baby quilt on: August 21, 2011 07:08:18 PM
I made this black, white, and red baby quilt for my friend's baby shower. I think it turned out pretty well! I'm definitely not a great seamstress, but I love the colors and the parents really liked it. There is a blanket and a taggie. Both are black and white on the front, and red on the back!
C and C welcome!

I wish I'd known about this challenge when it was happening! I just did a domestic violence awareness month project! It's a domestic violence quilt, and it's here if anyone cares to see: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=326120.0

4  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Domestic Violence Awareness Quilt on: October 29, 2009 10:38:31 PM
I'm usually a lurker, but I feel like this is worthy of posting. =) Here's a bit of background information on this quilt....
I work with runaway and homeless teenagers who are typically going through a rough time. For art therapy, I did a project pertaining to domestic violence. I had each youth design a quilt square that said something about domestic violence or represented their feelings about domestic violence. Many of the squares are very powerful, and I'm really proud of their work. =) I really don't feel that I can take credit for this project, as it is their work, but I do want to share it with others.

...As a side note, the kids' confidentiality is of utmost importance, so any teen who put their last name on a square and it is readable from the pictures, was not included in the individual images. Just FYI. =)
This first one is the full quilt. It's 39" across and 58" down

These are closeups of chunks of the quilt... Sorry all of these pics are so crappy, they were all taken on my phone!
Bottom 1/3:

Middle 1/3:

Top 1/3 (sorry my feet ended up in all the pics!): ^.^

Here are a few pics of some of the individual blocks before i sewed them all together....

It says "Second thoughts are often better than first impressions"

The block on the left says "Love conquers all. Stop the madness. Violence is not the answer!!" The block on the right (with the handprint) says "These are hands that heal"

...I know I probably shouldn't have favorites, but I'm partial to the one on the left. It's a scene of homeless people living on the streets and the caption says "Lord, we in the streets tryin to find comfort"  and the big words say NO MORE PAIN.  ...This one is just so REAL.
This is a close up of the same one. There is also a dead body on the ground.
The left one says "Trust is the key". The bottom left one has the Gandhi quote: "Be the change you want to see in the world"

Sorry for sooo many pictures. I'm going to try to take better pics tomorrow when I hang it at our agency. My camera is currently broken. Thanks so much for looking. Comments and/or criticisms are welcome!!! (BTW, I wasn't going for excellent workmanship on this quilt... It was more about the message.)  =)
5  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Two simple baby quilts on: February 06, 2009 02:26:11 PM
Melleriffic: They are both 30" x 36"  - - each small block is 6 inches.

Donniesgirl: I used a soft baby yarn. They are cut short and double or triple-knotted, and I've never had problems with unraveling or anything.

I've actually made about 5 of these, and each has only taken a few hours. These are not my favorites, but they are the only ones I remembered to take pictures of before I gave them away.

They are not as wonky as they look in the pictures. The corners don't really pull as much as they look. They're just really wrinkly. I was in a hurry, and these pics are from my phone, so the coloration is a bit off.

I made this last week for my cousin's baby for Valentine's Day. =)

And the back.

This one is for my other cousin's baby. The outside blocks are actually a bit blue-er.
7  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Baby Nevaeh's Quilt on: February 06, 2009 12:50:05 PM
This is absolutely beautiful! It's perfect for a baby, yet sophisticated enough that she can use it through her toddler/childhood years. Smiley  Great job.  This makes all my baby quilts look inadequate.  Tongue
8  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Unloved dolls become interesting wall art! on: August 21, 2008 12:50:42 PM
I had three dolls I bought at the dollar store for an art project I did in my college drawing class last semester.  After the class was over, I had no use for the dolls, but I didn't want to throw them away, so they sat around my room for a few months collecting dust.  I'm just now starting to redecorate my room in a black, white, and silver theme and I came up with the idea of using the dolls HEADS as wall art.  I started by spray painting the heads silver, and then I mounted the heads to a black shelf.  I really like how it turned out, but my nine-year-old sister refuses to look at them. She says they are "very creepy".   Cheesy

The pictures were taken on my cell phone, so the coloration is a little bland.
I don't have any pictures of the shelf mounted, because my room isn't finished yet.

That is truly amazing. I love the teensy tiny swing! So cute! I'm definitely hitting *this rocks*
10  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: Pinhole Camera madness! Warning - tons of pics! (New pics on Page 6!) on: May 07, 2008 07:42:57 PM
We made pinhole cameras in my photography class when I was in high school out of cardboard and aluminum, but my pics never turned very well. These are awesome!  Smiley
