2  almost school girl skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by missriss on: January 16, 2011 01:02:34 PM
I found this fabric in the remnant bin and knew it was destine for a skirt.  I almost did pleats but I didn't need it to look that much more school girl-esq (and I couldn't figure out how large or small to make the pleats and I didn't want to do math.)  I need to go to joann's and get a ribbon to put through the eyelets instead of the frayed piece of fabric. And I need to redo the hem because the tension was totally off (I was just given my grandmother's old machine and haven't fully figured it out yet.) I also want to do another line of stiching at the top for a little more detailing.  It's way to cold to wear now, so I have some time to work on it I guess...
What color ribbon should I use?

3  internet "meme" glasses (and rainbow shot glass) in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by missriss on: December 04, 2010 10:31:11 AM
My boyfriend's birthday is Tuesday and I painted him these glasses as part of his present.  I guess these pictures aren't exactly memes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_meme) but I can't figure out how else to describe them.  The boy always goes on about how he needs a mustach like the first gentleman and whenever he sees the second one he cracks up for an unnecessary amount of time so I figured they were appropriate.

I also painted this shot glass for my friend.  I was excited about the edges of the colors fading into each other slightly!

These are the first time I've painted any glass but I think they turned out well in a kitchy sort of way.  I also have no clue how to best photograph glass.  I wish I still lived with my photo major roommate..

5  Re: Elemental Themed Swap (Sign-ups closed, Send by 09/12) in The Swap Gallery by missriss on: September 18, 2010 09:34:30 AM
I recieved the most fabulous package from selkie a few days ago!
i forgot to rotate my pictures before putting them on craftster, but i think you get the idea.
first a dragon fly necklace for air. (it will totally get worn!  i just didn't want a mass of jewelry selkie;)

for water, a jar of rocks, shells, and water.  going on my shelf of other knickknacks from friends & other swaps.

earth, matchbox shrine w/ rocks & petrified wood.  lined with sand! the other side of the cover has birds.  also going on the shelf.

i saved my favorite for last! fingerless gloves inspired by my wist for fire! i don't own a lot of warm colored clothes but i love the idea of having a pop of fire sticking out from my jackets.  and these are perfect for one of my classes  that is like a refrigerator.

thank you thank you thank you!  i love everything!

7  kenmore machine sans manual in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by missriss on: September 04, 2010 10:33:34 AM
After my Grandmother passes away I asked my Grandfather if I could have her sewing machine.  It took about a year and a half for me to acquire it, but it's now in my possession!  BUT- Grandpa couldn't find the manual.  He said he'd keep looking for it but until then it would be nice to use it.  I figured out how to thread it but I can't even figure out how to get it off zig zag stitch.  This worked for some things, but not everything.
Does anyone know where to find a manual for model # 158.19141 without having to buy one, or at least show me how to switch it to a straight stitch?  I tried searching on here but couldn't find anything and google wasn't a lot of help either.  I'm sure the manual will turn up by Christmas when I see him next...

8  gangsta ducky hand towel in Needlework: Completed Projects by missriss on: May 21, 2010 11:11:26 AM
my best friend and I worked at a Girl Scout camp for two years (well, I did for four..) And we all had "camp names"  mine was monkey and hers was ducky.  Her favorite song to blast in the car is Get Low ("to the window to the wall" if that's any help...)  I'm impatently waiting to start my summer job so I figured I should get crafty of course.  Thus, gangsta ducky.  Complete with shutter shades and a chain.

You can't quite tell but the chain is silver metallic thread combined with black (because metallic and I don't get along, but I couldn't NOT use it for this.)  The shades didn't turn out as well as I hoped but I'm the crafty one in our friendship so I know she won't care.  I'm considering adding lyrics from the song ("shortie crunk, so fresh, so clean" [I had to look up the song!])  But do you think it needs it?  or should shortie just stand alone?

I received from donnevita (left)  yesterday and milady (right) today!  i love both of them!  they are on different wrists but i figured one picture would be easier.  the colors on the diamond one are pretty true but there is a purple on the round one that kind of turned blue in the picture.

thanks guys!
