I just received an AMAZING package from xladyluckx. Thank you SO much! She sent me a massive assortment of Alexander Henry fabrics and an adorable Hello Kitty cowboy themed one as well. Not only did xladyluckx send me EIGHT different fabrics, they were big pieces too!!!

My favourite one is the Hello kitty fabric. I'm going to save it until I can find a good pattern or tutorial for making a carry-on bag, or a largish travel bag.

I wish today was Friday so I could stay up late sewing my new fabrics Smiley

Looks like we both got our packages from Red Menace around the same time. I second Beckster's comments about the package....it was PERFECT!

Red Menace made the most adorable amigurumi bunny and included every single thing you'd need to make it, including extras such as stitch markers.

Incidentally between the time I signed up for this swap and the package arrived I bought an amigurumi book from Japan and have been busy trying to figure it out. But this bunny is wayyy cuter than anything I've made so far Smiley I'm looking forward to trying the pattern out.

This pic doesn't really do the pkg justics. The bunny is actually alot bigger than it looks in the pic. Probably around the height of a paperback book. Thanks again redmenace.

45  Apple and Pears Purse set (IMG HEAVY) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by travelbug on: April 21, 2007 12:39:12 PM
I just got some amazing fabric from a swap that I did with Ezri_B. She sent me this really bright and funky fabric that I fell in love with. I decided to use it all to make myself a new spring purse and matching pouch. Want to hear something funny? I've never actually made a purse for myself!!! Isn't there a saying, something along the lines of "the shoemakers kids never have new shoes".  However, once I got this fabric in the mail I was very inspired to use it. Although sometimes when I have really nice fabric to use, I suddenly don't know what to do with it, I become overly cautious because I know I want to make something nice, but I also don't want to make a mistake so it ends up sitting in my pile for a LONG time. Sounds weird I know Smiley

Sooo here is the purse set that I've been working on all day. I'm happy that I finally have a purse for myself!!

Here is a pic of the fabrics that I got in the swap.

I'm trying to think of something neat that I can make out of the other piece of material. I started making a laptop but then I realized that since I graduated from uni (a year and a half ago) I've NEVER actually carried my laptop around....soooo back to the drawing board Grin

I just got the most amazing fabric from Ezri_B. She sent me two yards of Alexander Henry material that I LOVE, but can't buy here in Canada. And to top it all off, she was super nice Grin

I'm going to make some purses for ME this weekend (I'm always making stuff for my etsy site, but never for myself. But now that I have this awesome fabric I'm making myself something first hehe)

47  2 New Purses: 1 Messenger + 1 new design in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by travelbug on: April 15, 2007 09:21:12 PM
Hi! Here are a couple of purses that I've made over the past week. I also splurged and bought serger Smiley I've been playing around with it, and trying to teach myself how to use the different functions...but luckily I have a free lesson coming up this weekend.

I used an upholstery weight fabric on this first purse, which is a great weight for purses, but tends to fray. I serged the inside edges (after spending 45 minutes trying to thread it. Hopefully I can cut that down by about 95% the next time LOL)

This is a design that I call the couture purse:

A pic of me holding it...hmm, please ignore the black sweatpants and brown shirt, and the worst part, the fact that I hemmed the sweatpants by cutting them unevenly with kitchen scissors hehe:

The second bag is one that I made from a thick vinyl material. It was a bit difficult to sew because parts of it almost didn't fit under my presser foot but I managed to just shove the pieces through. I guess a tip that I learned for next time is to buy the thin vinyl!:

Oh and the neat part is that my Grandma called today to say that she saw a picture of the messenger bag and wanted me to make one for her. I was surprised because I didn't think that she would like this style (she's 80) but glad that I can make her one because she is the person who taught me how to sew one summer when I was 5 or 6 Grin

49  The Bliss Bag....made from fabric that I've been eyeing for a month!!! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by travelbug on: April 03, 2007 08:18:52 PM
I don't know if anyone else does this, but I've been eyeing this one fabric for about a month. There is a home decor store right beside my job and I walk around the store on my lunch hour. About a month ago I saw this fabric that I LOVED, but when I saw that it cost $25/metre I decided against buying it. Anyhow I went back about 3 times and finally decided that I was going to buy it. I did a quick walk through to make sure that there was no other fabric that I liked more, and as luck would have it there was a remnant of this same fabric....3 metres for $29!!!! It made my day  Grin

Anyhow, here is a new purse that I made using this fabric and a set of wooden rings that I picked up a couple of months ago and have been waiting to use.

I've also been experimenting with the basic messenger bag design, but a smaller version. Here is what I came up with. I figure that a smaller purse might be more useful for day to day stuff.

I went to Ikea to buy more of this last fabric, but they were all sold out!!! I've been fabric hunting of late and I just found these really cool designs by Alexander Henry. Does anyone know of stores in Canada that sell his fabric?

50  The Sewing wallet....and a new vinyl purse!!!! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by travelbug on: March 25, 2007 03:52:34 PM
Hi, I got lots of good advice last week after I'd posted my vinyl wallet. Yesterday I went out and bought a teflon sewing foot and I've been playing with it ever since Smiley I was going to buy it online, but being the impatient crafter that I am, I didn't want to wait 5-7 days for it to arrive!

Here is the sewing wallet that I made using it:

And a hip purse that I made last night using the same foot:

The vinyl that I used for the purse is fairly thick and I found that when i was trying to sew anything more than 2 layers, it would barely fit (or just get stuck) under my presser foot. Has anyone heard of a presser foot that sits higher than normal?
