1  Illinois / Illinois: North / Re: I live in DeKalb and wondering about Chicago on: August 16, 2007 01:53:07 PM
welcome to IL... I live fairly close to dekalb. I know they have a pretty decent little yarn store and once a week people get together there, it is right by Ottos (the bar). I am not sure what day it is though.

Also there is all kinds of stuff that goes on at The House coffeeshop. So it would definetly be worth it to just pop in and grab a flyer.

If you can get your hands on a phone book I would. You can use it to look up shops and stuff and you may be able to find out about more stuff that way.

Good Luck... feel free to P.M. me.  Smiley

3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Help with craft camp ideas (there are teen boys coming)!!! on: July 08, 2007 04:29:00 PM
I was a camp counselor for 5 summers... don't let those boys rock your boat. Yes, there may be resistance but it isn't anything you can't get through.
You have some awesome stuff lined up, you have put a lot of thought and effort into planning all the projects. Just remember to have fun with your job and the campers will to. Smiley

And don't be too afraid of those teen boys... talk to them and show a little interest in what they are doing, I think a lot of times they act that way because they worry that they won't be good at crafts or whatever. But I think you have done a really great job choosing things that they could easily do things that suit their own tastes.
If you make examples of your projects maybe make some in colors or themes they may be interested in.

Don't worry too much they are really not too terrible, sometimes the ones I thought were going to be a pain in my butt were really awesome kids Grin
Good luck I am sure you will do great Wink

p.s. if you have leftover time... do the origami, they will love it. extra bonus points for you if you let the older boys (girls too) choose the ones they want to do and look out of your book or photocopies

Very cool loot, Myklia!  What is in the sun jar to make it glow?

Good question and great one for Linzo to answer.  It looks like some kind of electronic microchip board kind of thing.  I don't how it works, but I love the idea.

I got the idea off instructables... it is a tiny solar panel with an led light and a rechargable battery. I just dismantled a solar garden light... wish I was that good with electronics/ had access to those type of parts.
glad you like everything Myklia!
9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Whats your favorite "quickie craft"? on: June 27, 2007 04:59:45 AM
I play around with embroidery... make postcards.... attack things with paint. I also love to bust out the shrink paper... and magnets are probably the most common release of crafting in a short time... thank goodness for glue guns.

Usually my crafting attention span come in short but powerful bursts. Plus I am working with very limited space... I am pretty sure there are dorms larger than my apartment. Cheesy

myklia is awesome... i totally love everything she made for me!
I feel so lucky that I got paired up with her. Grin

you can also do tootsie roll style firestarters with wax and lint wrapped in wax paper. saves a little on the supplies... but the little cup ones are awesome because they last longer... more time to get your teeny tinies( my word for kindeling) to start burning.  Grin
