1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Re: funky wire tree sculpture on: June 24, 2008 10:18:59 PM
Thanks for the comments everyone! It was so easy, and so perfect for my living room. To answer the question, the niche was actually just an architectural design, built with the house.
The bench was something that I had. Actually my Dad made it for me years ago. I just painted it black, figuring it would be a good backdrop for the little tree.

Glad you liked it!

Okay, so I have this weird niche in my living room, and I needed something new to decorate the area. I wanted something funky and colorful to match the rest of the area. So here it is.

I used some kind of thick bendable wire that my husband had, some wooden beads, paint, a ceramic pot, and some filler. Voila.
thanks for looking!

Gawd I'm still so floored by all the compliments! Thanks guys! I still love this mirror, it's one of my favorite things in my house. And i couldn't have found a better group of people to share it with! I'm getting ready to make a couple smaller versions out of "Monster energy drink" cans, for my son and a couple of his friends. And I'm still waiting to see some other people's versions of this! It's time consuming, but a lot easier than you'd think!

Well I think there needs to be a "necessity is the mother of invention" challenge. This would definitely fit the bill!

Wow! This is utterly incredible! You must be so proud! I've seen things painted in this style before and I'm not sure if it was from "Sticks" or if it was just inspired by them, but I've always loved it! Thanks for the great directions on how you did this. I think I'll try something on a small scale first.
But yours is amazing.

Holy C#@P!  This is incredible! I'm not even familiar with the comic you're talking about, NOR did I even notice the heart at first...and I was amazed! I hit "This Rocks"!

Burn a CD of songs that have meaning to the two of you. For example, the first song you danced to, songs from your wedding, songs that made you laugh, or even just songs that make you think of him. Print out your own jewel case inserts with notes about each song, and make a cover with a picture of you both.
I did this for my husband when he was in Desert Storm (a few years ago  Wink) but of course it was on a cassette tape at the time.

I absolutely LOVE your mirror! Can I ask the dimensions of the mirror and what size you cut your tiles? I would be so grateful for the info!
Sure thing... the whole thing is 26" x 32". The opening for the mirror is 14" x 20". Of course there is moulding around the outside and inside. The outside moulding reduces the work area by about 5/8" per side.
The individual tiles are 1 3/4" x 2 1/4", give or take about 1/16". Hope that helps!!
