31  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: what do you wish people told you before you became a vegetarian/vegan on: January 05, 2007 03:56:32 AM
I wish someone had told me that when I go out, i'm never going to get decent gravy, just dishwater.  Now when I make my own  Wink

And that you're going to get inventive on ways to combat hunger, I'm permanently hungry!  Finally found that little and often sort of deals with that.

Someone will always ask you 'What DO you eat?'

In foreign countries they don't get it!

Years ago in France I had to survive on the cheese board, as they kept insisting of feeding me white meat.

Last year in Fuerteventura there was Jamon in the tiniest bits in almost every local dish, it's a garnish and they don't think of it as meat, but bloody hell you can taste it, it's a very salty Gamon/ham.  Vegetable pasta had this all through it.  Thank goodness for the Italian and Chinese restaurants nearby.

Hi, I've just joined, been lurking for ages

I just wanted to add my two pennies worth:

I went veggie when I was 10, I was sick of meal times fighting with my dad, who wouldn't let me leave the table till I'd finished my food, but I couldn't stomach the meat.  The last straw was a 3 hour stand off.

I started by cutting out red meat, mum wouldn't let me cut out all meat straight away.  I remained eating fish for about 6 months, but hated that too.

I have now been a strict vegetarian for 23 years.

I'm a silversmith and a metalsmithing board would be awsome.  Combined with woodworking.  Would work well too, please  Kiss
