1  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Super shiny Short n Sweet (in blue!) on: September 23, 2007 03:12:38 PM
So, for homecoming, my sister's lending me her pretty yellow and blue dress. I really wanted to make something to wear to homecoming too, so I made this. It took 4 full balls (plus a little bit of a 5th) of Samoa (this really nice mercerized cotton). I made a couple mistakes, but they're barely noticeable.

Hope you all like it!

3  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Cell Model for a biology project... I GOT AN A (yay!) on: June 28, 2007 07:52:15 PM
So, for biology, we had a lot of choices for final projects and one of them was to make a cell model. Everyone else was thinking styrofoam and all...

I was thinking crochet.

So, I took the inspiration from here:

and I got this.

It took me about three weeks on and off to make. The nucleus (purple circle) actually flips open to reveal the nucleolus (a smaller purcle circle), which flips open to reveal a bunch of twisted yarn (CHROMATIN!) Haha, I had too much fun making this.

The best was the response I got from my teacher. She actually went over to another biology teacher's room and showed it to her (that teacher knits, so she was even more amazed).

All in all, I think it would make a great pillow.
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / seed stitch to stokinette? any difference? on: June 03, 2007 09:45:23 AM
So, I'm planning to make a dress with the top kinda like the Cleo from knitty (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEsummer03/PATTcleo.html).

Anyway, I really don't think the seed stitch in the boob triangles would match the rest of the dress. If I changed all the seed stitch to stockinette, would it drastically change the dimensions of the triangles? Would it be all huge or shrink or anything?  Huh Hope you can help! Grin

6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Concert-fanatic boyfriend's birthday! Need crafty ideas! on: April 07, 2007 12:03:18 PM
So, my boyfriend's birthday is coming up in three weeks (May 2) and I want to make it amazing. For my birthday this year, he took me to see The Who, and the year before, Queen + Paul Rodgers. For his birthday last year? He didn't tell me when it was until a week later.  Embarrassed

Anyway, that's the whole reasoning to why this needs to be AMAZING. Ha. Anyway, we're both 15 and since he loves music and he deserves credit for all the great music I listen to, I thought I could do something like "music fest in a box."

Here's what I have so far...
  • Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert (DVD)
  • The Who concert we saw for my birthday (CD !and! DVD)
  • Return of the Champions (Queen + Paul Rodgers concert we saw) (DVD)
  • soda and snacks for when we watch all the DVDs together

...and that's where I get stuck. I really want to craft something for him too. I know how to stencil, sew, knit, and crochet. I might stencil a shirt for him with some song lyrics, but I'm not so sure if I can.

Anyone with any other ideas??
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / New wrist cuff on: February 03, 2007 04:51:34 PM
Made in brown and green wool yarn, I used this pattern. A half hour later, I came up with this! This makes me very happy indeed.

Without a wrist

With a wrist!

8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Brown&Green Beanie~! on: February 01, 2007 06:50:05 PM
Here it is! 100% wool (can't remember the brand) in brown and green (I've been using too much green lately). I used this pattern, although I only knitted for about 15 cm instead of 20 before decreasing. This was my first experience knitting in the round (on both circular needles and DPN). I love this hat.

And my necessary "nerdy pose" picture

Hope you like it! Grin
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Wicked Dress (black&green) on: January 31, 2007 01:13:55 PM
Here's a dress I made from six shirts (three black, three green) based off one of the tutorials here. I took a shirt I had already stenciled and some old shirts and threw this together. It only took an hour or so (at most)

The stenciled images on the front and back

The cheesy pose

Hope you like it! (The scarf and the armwarmers are on craftster too)
10  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Cabled Armwarmers! on: January 31, 2007 01:04:54 PM
So, I'd been envying my friend's armwarmers. I'd been looking at some at the yarn store when my mom declared "I can make that!" I just started learning, so she offered to make me a pair. Even more amazing was watching my mom make cables! She doesn't use a third needle!  Shocked

Anyway, these were made from one skein of yarn and are incredibly warm.

Anyway, here they are!

Hope you like them! My mom is wondering what people think of them.
