2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / sustainable/eco-friendly knitting needles on: October 11, 2007 07:57:46 AM
i'd  love to hear if anyone knows of some sustainable wooden (or ebony? etc.. something heavier that bamboo) knitting needle options? i know some ideas for being a bit more eco would be using needles from a thrift store (reusing/reclaiming) but wooden needles are harder to find than the more common metal or plastic. i wonder which wooden options would be the best when bought *new*. are there online suppliers for earth friendly, natural needles? i do have a pair of bamboo (that is usually very sustainable due to it's fast growth) however they are not as nice to hold as a nice weighted wooden... just something i'm thinking about as i get set to purchase a new pair of circular needles. does anyone know if all ebony needles are eco-friendly and sustainably harvested? how about rosewood - i have a feeling that might not be harvested so sustainably (but i'm not at all sure)?

thanks for any tips in this discussion...
