1  Re: Help needed for the Ultimate Beer Drinker's Kit in Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage by mmcheezesandwich on: May 10, 2007 08:13:25 AM
I know you said no glass etching... but I figured I'd share an idea that I used for my ex's birthday present that went over amazingly (not completed yet so i haven't posted the whole thing) but basically it was his 21st bday and he's not a big drinker but i figured he needed something drink related since HEY it was his 21st bday!  So he loves dragons and has his own Dragon eye he draws all the time.  Long story short, dollar store trip for glasses (and candle holders for shot glasses) and polymer clay.... and i'll show you the shot glasses cause they're the most done but i'm SURE you could do cool stuff to make personalized beer mugs!!  And thats a one of a kind gift that will leave people in awe Tongue
I appologize for picture quality (camera battery died so had to use phone camera)

Side note--the white part is glow in the dark clay

2  Re: Come one come all post your new tattoo IDEAS! in Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions by mmcheezesandwich on: May 09, 2007 07:13:08 AM
I've always wanted a tattoo that has some music aspect to it so I personalised the image a bit by incorporating two bass clefs.
So here it is, my question to you guys!
To you think the bass clefs should be a little more defined as in picture one below, or more subtle like picture two?

I apologise for my dodgy drawing skills! And any other suggestions would be welcome!

Hey, Hope you dont mind but I had a play around with your idea and came up with this for you -
you may love it, you may hate it - but hey, it filled 10mins of my day today.  Grin

I like your general idea though  Cheesy
Ok, I am not at all great at this whole drawing thing, but being a somewhat musical person as well I was wondering if the only musical reference you wanted in it would be a bass clef so i came up with this:

(we can pretend a three year old drew it... and if you like the details on it i would suggest finding someone on here lik bush baby to do it over Tongue)  But basically I changed the circle center to have a fermata and made the straight line running down the center into a treble clef.  I colored it so you could see exactally what i did cause in black and white it looked like a 4 month olds interpretation of a donkey Tongue

3  Mommy's Birthday Beach Getaway! (TRES pic hvy!) in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by mmcheezesandwich on: May 03, 2007 12:18:39 PM
So my mom's birthday was yesterday and I planed on redecorating her bedroom. My mom is always SO busy with work and everything that she has no time to make sense of her room and its one of those big burdens that I know never leaves the back of her mind.  With the past year being as tough as it was in our house I felt this was EXACTALLY the present she needed.  So... here come the pictures!! I edited them a little so that I could cut down on how many pictures I put in a little... so we'll see how this turns out.
Let's start with the before pictures!!! (sorry mom Tongue)

So welcome to the bedroom.  Some problems: no place to put anything... the bed frame is not exactally one i would keep exposed... when we were redoing part of the house a while ago the DID get new wall color which i really love, but had to keep the same carpet our house came with which just screams earwax.

Here's the other side of the room, and just a little map to give you a sense of whats going on there.

Now, I had gone shopping to try and find everything I could get cause not only was I doing this BIG project, but i wanted it to be a surprise... which meant working by myself as FAST AS I COULD from the time she left for work til the time she got home.  NOW THROW IN THE FACT THAT SHE LEFT FOR WORK LATER CAUSE SHE HAD MEETINGS THAT DAY AND THE FACT THAT I HAD TO WORK FROM 11:00-1:15/4:30-6:15/7:30-10ish... AND SHE WOULD BE HOME POSSIBLY AFTER 6:30!  Yeah... I dont know how i did it, but here it is!  (Not as perfect as I would have liked the outcome but a lot better then it could have.)

So this is what she first saw before entering... her response "why is there a net on my door..." (she still had NO CLUE Cheesy ) When she enters she was met with ocean sounds playing on her television as well as:

TA DAH!  A little moving around and a few changes does wonders!!  I put stars next to the new additions so you could kinda see what changed.

So this was one of the major points of what I wanted to do.  I really thought my parents room really needed a headboard to tie it together and had no clue what to do.  Since I knew my mom would love a beach theme and thats what i was going with I did the dollar store run first and walked around getting ideas.  Here was one of the best results I think!!  Smiley
2: Ok, story here is I really wanted a nice picture of a beach above the bed.  I couldn't find any i found I really liked for it.  So then i remembered this picture by a photographer my mom LOVES but unfortunately I did not have the money at the time to purchace it... so I kinda put up an IOU picture of it (i know... i know... not good.  BUT I DO INTEND TO GET A PRINT OF IT IN THERE... but that explains the little censor.)
3: Ok, this changed from my original concept but i like this better.  I had gotten the blue and green curtains (as well as a red one) from the dollar store and intended to drape it along the wall for the head board, but i really wasn't liking the way it was looking so instead I came up with this design in a rush before going BACK to work.  (please ignore the string on the right.  I haven't gotten around to trimming it)

So i KNEW that my mom needed SOMEPLACE to put her MANY books since my dad has claim of the bookcases in the office.  So this is the arrangement I came up with!!
1:Michaels-one of those wax melting fragrance things... i dont know the technical name so pardon me.  But i got a sea breeze scented wax for it Cheesy
2:Actually a dollar store buy from a while ago... but it fit!
3:My brother's present for my mom which went PERFECTLY with the room. It's BEAUTIFUL so i need to add a close up of it.
4:The bookcase is my arrangement of 3 tables from walmart (9.99 each) and the top piece is supposed to be for shoes but I thought it would add a neat look to the bookcase.  I'm pretty happy with the outcome.  Still needs to be organized and sorted a bit better.
So here's the close up:
(I'm actually going to skip ahead and save the pictures on the far wall for last since I realllllly love how they turned out.) SO ON TO THE NEXT WALL!

1: BEAUTIFUL beach window rub on from Michael's
2: Little display of parents wedding picture and invitation which was above the dresser with so much dust that it kinda looked like my sensoring on the picture (just cause i dont know if my mom wants it on here)

1:Dollar store flower pots, face flowers/etc. I like the way they turned out.
2: I deff thought the room needed a little bucket... this seemed to be the perfect place for it
3: light house from a local store.  ADORABLE!
4: this is actually the red curtain i talked about earlier.  I put bins under it to give some of the objects height so you could see them better when NOT standing on the bed to take a picture Tongue

Just a little detail i added on my mom's vanity tray.  Some bigger shells I had gotten for her change and small items.  She loved this touch.

Last side!  Not as many details as the other but still very cute.  (Oh, by the way, the new bedspread worked SO WELL at opening up the room since its so much lighter)

Don't know if you'll be able to read the blurb on the picture, but no i did not make these but they're ADORABLE AND I DEFF. WANT TO MAKE SOME OF MY OWN NOW!  I love these pieces!

Might as well look at the side tables now.  Figured this would be the easiest way to post them.
1: Lamps that we had in the basement from my grandparents old condo
2: ...I'll get to those...
3: dollar store tooth brush holder with three holes on top.  I saw it and immediately thought PENHOLDER!
4: dollar store placemat went wonderfully with the theme
5: LOOOOOOOOOVE the michael's baskets Cheesy Great for keeping under table orderly.
Now back to 2:

I think these turned out looking GREAT! My secret....
dollar store frames and...
dollar store blank decorated cards. I love the way they look.

Once again took my parents out of the picture but this is a picture of them on their aniversary trip to hawaii a few years ago.  I kept in the hula people cause i like them Smiley.  So this was a wooden shaddow box from michaels that i painted [1] (blue on inside/white on outside).  Next step [2] I took a BEAUTIFUL piece of scrapbook paper and modge podged it to the back.  It turned out not perfect so i changed to spray glue for the rest.  [3] the copy of the picture spray glue in center.  [4] I glued blue beach glass on the left and some sand on the right for the final touch for this one.  Now on to the other two.

Ok, I have to give craftster credit for this one to "HalfBrit" cause I got the microbead idea from her post of the turtle altoid tin (which is AMAZING if anyone hasn't seen it.  Check it out!!!)
[1]painted the shaddow boxes one again. This time gold on the inside (which you can't see in the pics too well since its on the sides inside.)
[2]cut and spray glued two of the same sunset scrapbook sheets i had.  then used the microbead idea to add a bit to it.
[3] This one is a picture of my bro when he was a baby on the beach that i shrunk down on our copier. The other one is me as a youngin'
[4] added sand and the blue beach glass filling the bottom here and went spray glue crazy.  some pieces of sand are still a little loose but for the main part it all created a sandy-secure top layer.  Now last thing the other one close up.

Basically the same, but did a different angle with the picture and different sand/glass arrangement.

Well, needless to say, she LOVED it.  The rest of the family loves it too (its really nice to just go there to relax and watch tv now Cheesy)
Hope you all enjoy it.  It was tough to get together but well worth it and I just hope it helps my mom relax and clear her mind at the end of her day.  (Now... a few days til mothers day... oh gosh... anyone have any ideas for me HuhHuh?? Tongue )

5  My new favorite easy craft!!! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by mmcheezesandwich on: February 14, 2007 06:57:03 PM
For one of the props we needed for a show i'm stage managing they needed a tin that would fit cupcakes.  To make a statement for the show they really were hoping for an Americana-type tin.  Unfortunately they could find nothing.  So on my craft store trip I picked up a few americana scrapbook pages and asked what they were looking for.  Then with a little mod podge it came out looking awesome.  Looking at it you would never know it was paper because the mod podge gloss gives it a tin-ny finish.  Here are two pictures.  My camera battery died so they're not the best pictures, I'll add more when it finishes charging.

7  My PURR-fect little valentine!! (photos:P) in Valentine's Day by mmcheezesandwich on: February 14, 2007 04:46:55 AM
Ok so I have ALWAYS been in love with Valentines day.  Most of my friends used to try and boycott it an wear all black and I would rebel against the rebels in the most obnoxiously bright, happy, love filled outfit.  Strangely enough I prefer Valentines day when i'm NOT in a relationship because i can go around in my obnoxious outfit, smiling rediculously, and making everyone around me mad and confussed at how I'm so happy when i don't have anyone on Valentines day.  I couldn't let this valentine's day be any different!!  And since its my first Valentine's day with my kitty, Icarus, I decided he had to join the festivities too!!

:-*Happy Valentines day to EVERYONE!!!!!! With love from Liz and Icarus!!!!! Kiss

8  Photos of 50's-esque Apron for Show (No more links!) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by mmcheezesandwich on: February 12, 2007 01:51:32 PM
I had to do something for a final project in one of my classes and I'm interning at a regional theatre by my house this semester so i decided to ask if i could make something for one of the shows in the Festival of One Acts that they do annually.  They were thrilled cause they needed a waitress costume anyway and so they put me to work on that.  In my material searches I found a perfect material for the apron that is needed for a 50's-esque piece.  Since it was the smaller of the two projects (and I haven't created a complete piece from scratch since my camp years a bunch of years back) I decided to finish the apron first.  It turned out pretty well i feel.  I got to use my serger for the first time as well which was AWESOME.  It gives it such a different looking finish when you get to use it and it was REAL fun figuring out the different things it could do.  Only thing i wasn't happy about with the outcome was the interfacing i got for it.  I didnt have time to go to another store and the one i went to had only extra thick stuff so when the firont part of the waist band was bent over the final stiches were a bit bumpy but oh well.  Well, without further BABBLE from me here are the links to the pictures!!

INSIDE LOOK (hard to see--my surged stiches were a bit camera shy Tongue)

9  UPDATED Kitty's pimped room :) (PHTO HVY) in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by mmcheezesandwich on: February 12, 2007 01:28:40 PM
[/font]I just got a baby kitten recently (my first cat) and totally fell in LOVVVVVE.  I may be a little too obsessive with putting cute things together for him but it gives me something to do in my very little spare time  Tongue
I had gotten the idea to use my old american girl doll furniture to create a little bedroom for him.  The furniture was adorable but it needed a touch of kitty personality to it so i made some quick sheets for it.  The bed cover was there but the polka dot sheet with red top and matching pillow and the paw print top was mine.  With his little circle kitty bed on top for extra padding he loves it.  He used to sleep on it all the time when he was first here.  That stopped however when he found he could jump on MY bed Tongue
The first 3 pictures were from when it was in my closet (aka his room Tongue)

These are the NEW room he has on my nightstand since he has begun to ignore his closet hideaway.

Hope you like Smiley
WE HAD A NEW STEP IN THE BED!!! HE'S BACK TO SLEEPING IN HIS OWN BED NOW THAT ITS IN THE NEW LOCATION!!!  Last night he even moved so he was laying on the pillow so i tucked him in and took the WONDERFUL opportunity for pictures!

This one my friend said is creepy cause he looks like a cat person Tongue

Once again...enjoy!
