You will receive from as many people as you send to.  There is no minimum here, but please make it worth your while. Remember, this is for your benefit.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

Name of swap
Craftster username
Email address
Your real name
Mailing address including the country
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country?
What is the name of your business?
What kinds of items do you sell?
Do you have a website? if so, please list it
What will you be sending? (Business cards? buttons? a combo? something else?)
What is the maximum number of people you would like to ship to?*
Do you want to send only to those who reciprocate with you? or would you be willing to send to other people who's items you do not receive?*
Do you have a preference as to the kind of items that are sold by the stores you receive from? (ie you sell babies clothes so you don't want me to send you business cards for my pasties website)*

*I will try my best to give you exactly what you want in these departments but I cannot promise anything!

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

292  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Business Card / Promo item Swap. on: April 22, 2007 05:41:37 PM
This was brought up by UglyShyla

I have no idea what would be the proper board to post this in,it wasn't a link swap so I couldn't put it in the link swap thread ect.So if this is in the wrong board please feel free to move it.
I'm a doll artist pretty much for a living so I naturally also have other doll artist friends and friends in general that also do some type of crafty/artist/diy related type of business.Because of that we have all started flyer or business card swapping.Basically they send me a stack of their to put in all the boxes of purchased items I mail out to customers, and I send my friends mine and they do the same for me.
I figured since it seems to work well for my friends and I,that I would also offer my fellow Artist ect on here if they want to flyer or business card swap with me to just PM me and send me their addy and I'll send them mine to swap business cards.
If anybody is interested just PM me and we will go from there.
Just a note though,I'm a morbid fine art doll artist,so make SURE you are comfortable with that before contacting me about biz card swapping. My link which I have on my cards is in my signature if you wish to check out what I do and see if you feel comfortable with promoting it.I don't want anybody to get their panties all bunched up over my weird art Tongue
If you are ok with that then feel free to drop me a line.

So. start hashing out the details!  If you all need me to organize, I will, of course if someone else wants to that's fine as well!
293  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / How should I price my items? on: February 12, 2007 01:41:51 PM
FAQ #3 - How should I price my items?

There are different theories on how best to price your items.  You obviously need to cover the cost of materials and please do not forget to pay yourself for your time and effort!  Many people set an hourly wage for themselves, either what they make at their day job or another amount they feel is appropriate, and add the cost of their time to the item price.

After adding your costs there are various ways to set your price.  Suggestions include:
  • Cost of supplies + cost of time only
  • Doubling the cost of supplies + cost of time
  • Doubling the cost of supplies only
  • Tripling the cost of supplies only
  • Cost of supplies + cost of time + some extra amount

As you can see, even amongst craftsters, there are many different pricing strategies.  In the end you need to make sure you can turn a profit over your supplies and make sure that you set a price that the market can handle.  Also, keep in mind that if you sell on consignment you will only get a percentage of the retail price!

Remember to be aware of underselling, ie the habit of crafters to price their items very low simply to garner sales or because they feel the item isnt worth more, thus not properly paying themselves for their time and effort.  (Discuss)

This info was taken from the Giant Crafty Business FAQ!

Hey everyone! I'm making a ginormous FAQ for Crafty Business! Hopefully this will be a great resource for everyone, a way to get into some more pointed discussions of crafty businesses, and a way to reduce the number of repeat posts.

If you'd like to suggest something for the FAQ please PM me!

Frequently Asked Questions:

1.) What should I sell?
2.) What should I name my company?
3.) How do I price my items?
4.) I have a great product, now where do I sell it?
5.) What kind of payments methods should I accept? and How do I take them?

295  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / What goes in this board? on: November 05, 2006 10:28:08 AM
Sometimes it gets a little tricky determining what is appropriate for this board.  Based on what I've seen going through the topics I'm going to give a brief run-down of what goes here vs. Crafty Business Discussion vs. other areas.

So, when should you post here?  When you are looking for opinions on:

  • your own website
  • your own completed products
  • your own logo designs
  • your own business card designs

basically anything that you already have set up and want opinions on, that's what we're here for!

When shouldn't you post here?  When you want to:

When in doubt, you can always PM me!

296  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / I have a request... on: September 09, 2006 03:06:38 PM
Would it be possible to change something in the "New swap post starter"?

The line "Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of the US?" has always bothered me since not everyone is in the US.....

Could we change it to say something like "Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of your country?"

It's not a big deal, obviously, just something to take into consideration.
