41  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Re: ring sling on: April 15, 2008 04:52:00 AM
you should be able to find some in the carabiner section of the cattle supply store.  i found 2 1/2" rings 1/4" thick there. .  . near the chains by the yard if that helps (this was at tractor supply)

Home Depot has them, too - the biggest they have is 2" rings 1/4" thick - and those are by the carabiners - in the hardware aisle on a 'j' hook.  they're in shrinkwrap cardboard backing packaging. . .

i'm in usa this won't help you if you're not here, too.

who recently had to track down some rings for weigh slings for the midwife. .

and i love the monster and truck designs, where did you find them, my boys would love them!

The designs I got on the disk (got it on clearance rack at Bernina shop for $20!):

The disc is called:  KidStuff by Cheri Strole  Hopefully you will be able to find it somewhere. ..
and what's on the disk:

Here are the finished dipes:

and as to how I sealed the embroidery - real easy.  just hoop a scrap piece of pul under the 'real' diaper cut.  then after embroidering, fold over the scrap and stitch around it.  then trim.  much like you do a hidden pocket in a handbag - where you don't stitch the outer fabric, just the inner fabrics. ..

here's a pic of some of the backs of my embroidered diapers after they were stitched . . .

Will have THREE in full time diapers when the lilies bloom! (2 in diapers now)
goals for expanding diaper stash:
14 small diaper covers (DONE!)
51 small fitted diapers (DONE!)
14 medium diaper covers (DONE!)
45 Medium fitted CT diapers (DONE!)
24-48 Large AI2 CT diapers (23 DONE!)

I am very impressed! I made 2 diapers so far Grin, but didn't find this pattern yet. Do you have any link to it? Since I'm trying different patterns and fabric out to see which one will fit best to my little girl.
I love your embroidery!!! Makes me want to have an embroidery sewing machine... Tongue

The diaper pattern:  http://www.chloetoesboutique.com/store/WsDefault.asp?Cat=ChloeToesDiaperPattern

This is one pattern that's totally worth it to buy.  I cringed initially spending so much for 'just' one pattern, but i'm telling you, it's awesome!  My kids wore size medium for well over a year. .. my 4 yr old is just now fitting well in the large. .. the 2 yr old can wear either medium or large. . .  Smiley

I am having such fun exploring what the embroidery machine can do.  My machine is over 12 years old.  it's a bernina bernette deco 500 (first one made by bernina - it was a partnership or soemthing with brother at the time. . )

They look really similiar to the Chloe Toes nappies - is that the pattern you used for them???

that's EXACTLY the pattern I use. .. I just ADORE the chloe toes pattern on my kids.  (one kid is skinny, the other is chunky) and the diapers fit great on both. ..   (all because of the FOE and under belly fit!

one question - how did you attach the zipper??

who wants to make something similar now for my car!  Smiley

Did you use FOE or lycra binding for the edges?

I used 1" FOE that I got from Coop - thisendup  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/This-End-Up/  Seriously she has the BEST FOE available!!!  it doesn't wick and the colors are true. ..

With the DIY PUL, did you just get normal PUL and add an extra layer of fashion fabric?

I had cotton woven fabric laminated (that's the black ABC fabric you see in the pics)

and the pink/purple/cream fabric is actually 100% polyester fabric that I had laminated . ..

glad you liked them!!  they work REALLY well on the boys!  today was a real test for them because i was out of town with the kids at medical appts all day so they were only changed between appts - every 2-3 hours. . .instead of more often as they would have at home. .

aw, thanks!!  really i've only been working on them for the last month or two - off and on. . .

i believe that since *I* do the diaper laundry *I* should have the kind of diapers to look at that make me smile.  and my boys don't mind.  heck, the younger one CHOOSES the 'pretty' diapers a lot!  His favorite colors are pink and purple. . .

and that laminate you see - it's actually my kitchen table.  *grin*  I'm very pregnant right now and bending to the floor to lay out the dipes, not gonna happen right now - which is why there are so many pics instead of just one big shot. ..

ps  my oldest has been asking for the 'monster' dipes for weeks, so i am pretty sure that's what he's gonna choose to wear first!  Smiley

I have just finished up a batch of 23 large AI2 Chloe Toes diapers.   Smiley

I made them as AI2's this time around.  - snap in soakers (I attach
snaps at top and bottom of diaper - holds better for me w/o as much
shifting while attaching to child. . .)

the 'specs' on these diapers:

the shells - consist of:

PUL (either DIY, gingham pul, or 'regular' pul)
inner contour soaker layers attached to alova suedecloth

the inner contour soaker layer is made of:
1 layer warm and natural batting or microfiber
2 layers cotton french terry

the snap in soakers consist of:

alova suedecloth
warm and natural batting or microfiber
cotton french terry

this makes a grand total of 12 absorbent layers.

Oh, when looking at the pics, be understanding that I have been learning
how to use my embroidery machine - so these have been my experiments. ..
I learned a lot while embroidering these.  Most of the diapers have
flaws with the embroidering if you look real closely.  My next diapers
will be even better.   Smiley

And now, the pics:

snap in soakers (flannel side showing):

snap in soakers (alova  suedecloth side showing):

A diaper being snapped together:

DIY dipes:

Seaspray embroidered pul dipes:

Gingham embroidered pul dipes and a hunter green pul cut embroidered:

Blaze orange embroidered pul dipes:

who is real excited for the boys to wear these tomorrow!!!   Smiley   My david
(oldest) has been asking FOREVER for these dipes to be finished. . .
