1  Bridal and trash.. two sides of the spectrum? (wedding dress & recycled dress) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by ari- on: July 08, 2010 10:31:43 PM
My, well it's been an awful long while since I've posted or done much of anything on here really. Figured I should post up some recent-ish things that I never put up.

Okay, so don't freak out from the title, the two spectrums remain separated; this isn't a bridal dress made from trash (not to say that it wouldn't work, because it could. This just isn't. Cheesy)
Both of these garments were made for fashion shows that our class was going to be a part of.

This first dress is a recycled dress, made for a fashion show/contest. I didn't place but I had fun doing it anyway. The challenge was to make a garment out of things you would normally just throw away, so I decided to use clothing tags and receipts. I had a TONNN collected up, honestly for no reason. I think I'm just a pack-rat.. but anyway, I'm glad I could put them to some use. I made a base dress out of muslin and onto that sewed each tag (and some left the little string which I thought added a cute touch (: ) and then I pleated and overlapped a bunch of receipts in order to make the skirt. It zips up in the back. I also put tags on some earrings for added little accessory to match. ^^

This one's a pretty good close up:

The second is a wedding dress that I made and pretty much died over because it took SO long. At one point I DID want to cry, in case you were wondering. (: The bodice is some sort of satin.. (a low lustre one) and the skirt and applique, which we will get to, is made of chiffon.
Here it is coming out on the runway:

There is flower applique on the bodice as well as going up one shoulder and across to the other, going over and to the center of a low-v back. Unfortunately I don't have a very good picture of the back.. :/ The skirt is pleated and begins at the natural waistline and also has these appliques, as well as some in different colored chiffon within the many layers of off-white chiffon.

Closeup detail of the bodice applique:

Unforch, throughout the whole process of getting the model in and out of the dress several times, some of the applique and straps got damaged which made me sad, but I suppose it was inevitable because of the delicate fabric.

So yeahh, that's pretty much the larger projects I've done recently-ish. Hopefully more things to come.. as in I hope I get to make a few things before classes start once again.. ><;
Thanks for looking!~~

6  Inspired by Marchesa. (& for prom!) + older Easter dress. [img heavy] in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by ari- on: May 25, 2009 12:19:37 PM
This is a dress originally made in my fashion design class for a knock-off design. I chose Marchesa and made this inspired by the spring 2007 collection.
I decided to wear it for prom also, since it was just around the corner.(:
The roses are all hand made and sewn, and the dress is lined inside.
It's a light yellow, some of the pictures don't show this properly. :B

close ups of flowers:

in action!

This next dress is one I made for Easter this year. I didn't get a chance to post it so here it goes!(: sorry for the bad quality, they were taken at night in a dark room.

The back has elastic sewn in for ease of getting it on, and for a good fit.(:

You can see the fabric pattern that it has in this picture.

Thanks for viewing!:D

7  Striped and ruffled. Dress! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by ari- on: March 29, 2009 01:52:36 PM
This was made with my partner in my fashion design class. :]
Put together with what we could find in the fabric bins. You'd be amazed at how little of the blue and white striped fabric there was to begin with.

8  Holiday dress! - navy; plaid; snowflakes. in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by ari- on: December 27, 2008 12:53:26 PM
Ah, a dress for the season. Well.. we didn't get any snow so I guess this sort of makes up for it (with the snowflakes and all). I wanted something to wear to the Christmas eve party that our family always has so I decided on a dress with this fabric. I worked on this the day before and finished the hems the next morning. I am very happy with it, and I got many compliments! :'D
It's a navy color with silver, plaid like stripes, as well as silvery snowflakes. :]
I made my own "pattern" (I say this with quotations because it's not a complete/professional type of pattern. I just made the shapes for the top from paper to make it easier). This was also my first dress with sleeves! I'm actually quite proud of them, though I think they could have been a bit better. I think I need a proper pattern for them at least.
The yoke was made using the underside of the fabric and it has a polka-dotted mesh type material on top. I thought it added to the "snowy" effect. XD
I stitched some elastic along the bottom of the dress to get it to look a bit bubbly and frilly! I love it. I also put a zipper in the back because the fabric doesn't have any stretch to it, but really, it was pointless. Since there's elastic under the bust, I'm able to just throw it over my head. I went through all that trouble for nothing (I do hate zippers because they give me grief. I have yet to get myself a zipper foot. Perhaps once I do I won't dislike them so much).
Ah well, enough blabbing. I talk to much! On to the pictures! Finally some better quality ones (though one is a bit blurry) from my sister's digital camera. These were taken Christmas eve. :]
Oh gosh, do I ever shuddup? XD Pictures:

Thanks for looking, and I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday. I did! :'D

9  Pink, white, and polkadots! babydoll dress. :D [6 imgs] in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by ari- on: September 01, 2008 03:00:34 PM
It's a bit old but I never got around to taking pictures.. XD;
A cute little dress I came up with because I needed something to wear for a quincenera.
The white fabric is jersey and the pink with white polkadots was found in the scrap bin at JoAnn's. :] overylaying the bottom part is a tulle type thinger that also has polkadots.
I really like how it turned out! There are a few mistakes here and there but I can actually wear it in public XDD which is a plus.
Sorry the pictures are yucky. Dumb phone camera.. :B

and this last one to show the tulle overlay:

10  Black Bow Flats :3 in Shoes: Completed Projects by ari- on: January 30, 2007 04:07:38 PM
Okay, so I had these orange lacy flats that I got for $6 and I didn't really wear them much because I had nothing that worked together with them. ^^;; And I've been needing black flats, so there was my perfect opportunity.

I spent all l;sjaf night on this things. -___-; So tired... x: And I stabbed my thumbs several times.
But here they are. I made the picture light in the second one so that you could see the ribbon detail.

All sewn by hand. Which I regret but the machine probably wouldn't have been able to do the job. x:
