11  Re: Craft Me Some Jewelry Rd. 1 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by hoppy on: September 15, 2009 08:32:46 PM
***I cannot rotate the last two pictures, I tried to do in photo hosting and it says it has saved my changes but it reverts to the original. I'm so sorry!
Ok, now I get to show off the pretty things Glittering Peacock sent me! I have to apologize for the photo quality, my camera is , ummm, not good for close-ups. So they really don't show everything in their true glory to say the least.

Here is my favorite, isn't it lovely?

This one has a fabulous vintage peacock (naturally)
Look at these beautiful earrings! My swap partner was an excellent snoop and saw that I love all things Art Nouveau. SO she made me these, with brass stampings of a lady and vintage vitrial stones.

And the last photo is really blurry, which is too bad. These have some pretty fantastic brass stampings and vintage pearl beads.

Didn't I get spoiled?? I love my new jewelry, Glittering Peacock-you were an awesome swap partner !

12  Cooking up a hot mess-help! in Quilting: Discussion and Questions by hoppy on: March 21, 2009 07:58:48 PM
OK, I think I am making something ugly and headache inducing and I need the truth. I am making a quilt to send to a member of the armed forces at some point in the distant future, so I decided to go with a star theme in red white and blue. I am new to quilting, and I was quite aware that this was not going to be a work of art like so many things I see here on craftster, but I figured I'd have a go at it. I enjoy teaching myself things and learning by trial and error (lots of errors!!!!) I saw a block I liked online and made a pattern for it, and have been happily sewing away. My plan was to have these blocks with a 2 inch blue sashing in between and stars at various key points, nothing amazing, but I thought it would be cheerful and colorful. I set them out on a piece the same color as the future sashing to have a look and it seems pretty hideous. Please pardon the quality of this photograph.

I think my big mistake was using the pattern I did, I guess with fabrics with such high contrast I should have gone for something simpler?
Should I start over? I really loved the blocks until I looked at them together. There is one with the blue on the outside that would need to be changed regardless.
Suggestions for a better pattern?

Thank you for all your help!

13  Re: Halloween ATC Swap 2008 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by hoppy on: October 23, 2008 05:31:41 PM
Sorry for the slight delay in posting! I love all of these, can't wait to show them off, so here goes...

This one is from Amaryllisroze, I am afraid the photo does not do it justice. What a cute little devil! I love the webbing and the trim as well.

This one is from Aada-I love the moon with its bats-you can't tell but it is felt!

Another, this from Megan + Mary. I am loving her raven cards!

This one traveled over the ocean to be with me, sent by qazicat. I love it-that eye is super spooky. Yea haunted houses!

This little beauty is from Goatgoddess. I really adore the photo of the two girls and the layering/texture she broke out for this one.

Thank you everyone for sending such fabulous, tiny works of Halloween art! This is a great start to my new collection.

15  Steampunk Octopus in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by hoppy on: September 20, 2008 09:45:08 AM
This is the first time I have posted pictures of my work. Usually I work with beads and wire, but I made this piece for DanniQuee as an extra for the Vintage Halloween swap. I love steampunk, but this is my first time making anything in that style. The hardest part was figuring out how to join the pieces, I ended up using 3 different kinds of epoxy. I think next I'm going to do some sort of insect, maybe a scarab or a dragonfly-any suggestions? Comments and constructive criticism please! (and sorry about the photo quality...)

16  Re: Vintage Halloween Swap Round 2 - Gallery in The Swap Gallery by hoppy on: September 16, 2008 09:24:22 AM
I was so excited to arrive home yesterday to find a package waiting for me!! Look at the goodies DanniQuee made for me!

First, an amazing wall hanging of a grinning pumpkin. I love his expression and the little guys on the bottom...

Now, check out this awesome shrine. Here's the outside of the fortune teller's booth, along with the adorable pumpkins and acorns she sent along...

And the inside!! I love her! And look at the tiny tarot cards!

I just want to say a super big thanks to DanniQuee for making my first swap experience such a good one. Now I have some handmade goodness to add to my Halloween collection and inspiration to make more myself. Thanks DanniQuee!  And your package is coming soon!!!!
