1271  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: (img heavy) My flower quilt...900 pieces on: January 15, 2007 02:47:32 PM
I love it. I have done two similar Rose flowers but worked from a pattern someone else made. Working from a picture she took really personalises it.

1273  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Christmas placemats, apron & box (complete w/ photos) on: January 14, 2007 05:49:59 PM
First time posting a pic so fingers crossed. I saw cute anarchy's pic in the other thread but was unable to locate the original thread. You would not believe how many results you get searching for box and basket.

Whilst waiting impatiently for her lovely response to my query, I came across Diyosas tutorial for upholstered boxes. By combining your pic and her tute, I made something similar.

I wasn't sure of the measurement so I used a Fat Quarter, squared it up and made rouleau tubes out of the scraps. No wastage! I used scraps of quilt wadding to encase the cardboard on both sides, as Diyosa did.

I love this and plan to make more as soon as I have some more scraps. I have been on a box/pincushion making binge to use them up and have been too successful.

Absolutely gorgeous. I also had no idea that you could knit wire.

Must not acquire new hobby.

Hi Everyone,

I am a quilter mainly but some of the ladies at my guild started making bags from the Nancy Ota "Screen Play" pattern and it looked easy enough. So then someone recommmended this website. So, to make a long story short, most people got bags for Christmas from me. I have put them all together in an album and hopefully from now on I will be able to post them one at a time.

1276  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: Is your craft space organized? on: January 07, 2007 03:00:37 PM
I will start by saying that I am only partially organised. My room looks good, but only since I actually tidied it yesterday.

The important thing is to analyse the way you search for things and file them that way. I quilt (although I am being sucked into bag making by the dealers on this site. Four bags doesn't make a new craft does it?) I used to sort my fabrics by colour and was always turning the whole room upside down. Then I read an article where the lady sorted her 30s fabrics together, her Asian fabrics together etc. Lightbulb moment. When I'm making a quilt and run short I need fabric that goes with the rest, not a specific colour.

When you reach for your one of a kind items are you looking for an angel themed thingie or are you reaching for something between one and two inches? Or does it have to be green? Whatever you normally look for, then that is how you organise.

My other tip, which I have yet to follow, it to make it visible without having to take it out of the container, or at least without having to empty the container. Mine is all stacked vertically in a large bag and it I want something, out it all comes. Sigh.

Oh, I'd love the tutorial for the basket/box. Is it on this site?

I have just gotten a book on 3D flowers and thought of them immediately. Here is an example on this quilt.

You can cut between the petals to make free standing applique.

I had no idea what alum was and after some time on google, it seems to be available as a deodorant and as a spice. Which one would be appropriate here?
