1  New warm-weather beachy dress and bathing suit in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by balletfreak on: April 08, 2008 07:19:50 PM
This past weekend I went to my friend's engagement party at the beach, and I decided to neglect my giant essays for my Major American Writers course and make some things instead. I am a speed demon and I love crafting but I have not been doing enough recently. I made a snappy new dress and matching bikini (sadly I don't have many great pictures since  don't have a camera and I have to rely on pictures others were taking for pleasure). Anyway, I meant to make the dress longer but I accidentally trimmed the fabric so oh well, it's not indecent. I really like it, so did my friends.

In the car going home:

Oh and about my crochet bikini, I have never crocheted much before, except for detailing, a hackeysack, and flowers/hair doodads. The cups sort of don't match but they are close enough. I made it all up as I went along to get the shape right. Oh, and I've heard rumors crochet bathing suits don't work for swimming but it is unlined and was great for a rough day of diving in the ocean! I want to make so many more now! I am all wet from wave swimming in these pictures, sorry there is no good shot of the bottom, but I love it!
Rockin' out (I wish my towel wasn't covering it!):

Guys let me know what you think! You are all the experts, and I love feedback, especially so I can improve my future endeavors.  Cheesy

5  little ballet skirt!! in Knitting: Completed Projects by balletfreak on: May 24, 2007 04:33:31 PM
this is a skirt i made for ballet, so its actually meant to be worn with a leotard and tights but i had already done ballet today and i didnt want to put my clothes back on.
i designed this myself because its really fun to wear warmups in ballet and useful too, and this is one thats light and swingy and not too hot to dance in...so it can be worn in warm summer weather!!
ive seen some skirts like this in ballet catalogues, so thats where i got the idea, but ive never seen a pattern for something like this so i made it up.
it has a ribbed fold-down top with i-cord drawstring drawn through holes in the front and back. it then flares out a bit and is bound off little by little at the bottom so it gives a nice line to the legs and is shortest in front, tapering down to the back.
and yes, it is meant to be short so its cool and you can move and see your legs (important for dance) in it.
here it is lain out before blocking to make the stockinette lie flat, which i did later...

icord drawstring tie closeup...

and various action shots (including some ballet-esque Smiley)

hope you enjoy!!! let me know what you think..input appreciated. yes it is my first time designing Smiley
and if anyone ever wants im happy to share the pattern Cheesy

6  A Dream..... in Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) by balletfreak on: May 19, 2007 04:16:22 PM
So i was interested in this challenge when i first saw it.  I go to craftster often, and i do a lot of crafts, but i had never made an ATC before.  Proudly, this challenge is my first whack at an ATC (not my last!).
Of course, I'm a "balletfreak" most things i make have to do with ballet. I got this idea from the infamous ballet "The Nutcracker"..but its loosely related
The girl is supposed to be sort of like Clara, who is made princess for her bravery...but its really only sort of an inspiration.

The guy is supposed to be sort of like the nutcracker prince...

And together, it says "'Are you my prince?' she asked."

But....aha a transformation! The prince becomes...

only a toy nutcracker!

So in answering...
"'Are you my prince?' she asked."        "But he was only a dream"

Thats kind of the idea behind the nutcracker, that the whole thing is not really real..(or is it)...and is only a girls dream.
After all, who doesnt want to dream of a handsome prince, especially if you are a princess of bravery!

Anways, I don't have a scanner and it took me forever to take pictures with my camera!! That's why they're so blurry!!!! I'm sorry, it was hard.

The cards are drawn on, have pictures, fabric for clothing, hair, wire/bead crowns, and calligraphy.

Let me know what you think, I hope you enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
