1  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Overdying soysilk? on: September 20, 2007 03:24:17 PM
So today I was lucky enough to score 3 free skeins of Pastimes (100% soysilk) from my LYS.  It was on sale for $3 but i think the colorway is hideous, and she told me I could just have them to see what I could do with it.  What a deal!  I've dyed yarn with koolaid before, but I didn't know if there is anything special you have to do with soysilk.  I've never over-dyed anything.  So any suggestions for colors or specific kinds of dyes that would work with this well would be great.  I basically want to make it a more monochromatic scheme, maybe focus on the greens and blues and cover the orange.  If that's possible.  Any suggestions (please and thank you)?   Btw, new to this board, so hello.  I'm usually on the knitting boards.  Smiley

here's my yarn.  the orange is VERY bright.  i really don't like the orange and blue together at all.  blech. but i'm optimistic.
2  KNITTING / Knitalongs / VK Fall Flower Scarf (cover) on: August 18, 2007 10:08:27 AM
Is anyone planning to knit this?  It didn't occur to me until I was trying to figure out what to do with some Classic Elite Fame that I bought to knit my mom something for her birthday.  The pattern used 25 flowers to celebrate 25 years of VK.  So I thought I could use 46 to celebrate my mom's 46th birthday.  So now I'm excited about it.  This is what I am using.

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Suggestions for super warm socks? on: August 14, 2007 10:35:51 PM
I want to knit some hunting socks for my boyfriend and I want to make sure they are VERY warm.  we're in indiana and i know it is very cold in the mornings when he hunts.  I figure I should start them now so I will actually finish them in time for deer season.  I was thinking alpaca unless there is something warmer I should use.  But I was wondering if anyone knows of a pattern for a double layered sock, or something?  Would I just knit from the toe up and then back down and put one inside itself?  I'm thinking it might work but I don't want to try it and then it not work.  I may not have explained that very well.  Anyway, I'm open to suggestions.  I want them to be very nice, warm, and durable.
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Where's Waldo? on: August 14, 2007 02:49:17 PM
So I'm going to a Where's Waldo? themed party next week and of course jumped at the opportunity to knit a Waldo hat.  I would do a sweater too if I had the time.  Anyway, it's nothing fancy, just made it up as I went.  And it's knit out of Caron Simply Soft.  I should have cast on some more cause it's a little stretched out when I put it on, but it's not a big deal.  Just wanted to share!

I'll add another photo later with my full outfit. Smiley
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Gift for friend studying abroad (Australia) on: August 06, 2007 03:09:15 PM
So my best friend is in Australia right now, and will be there until the end of November I believe.  I wanted to knit something and send it to her but I don't know what to knit for her.  I'm thinking something small that doesn't take a ton of time cause I'd like to send it soon.  Some sort of accessory or something.  Could anyone tell me what the weather is like there this time of year, and what kinds of things are popular there, or what would be practical for the weather?  My only idea so far has been maybe an Australian flag iPod cozy?  Any help is much appreciated.

Oh, and is it gonna cost an arm and a leg to ship something small?

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / knitting polka dots? on: April 04, 2007 12:02:41 PM
Does anyone know a way to knit polka dots that aren't huge?  the only way i could think of is to knit them big enough to have enough stitches to make circles.  but i want them to be smaller.  and i have been driving myself crazy trying to figure it out.  maybe it's a lost cause?
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Ella Rae pattern books on: February 28, 2007 11:23:46 PM
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy Ella Rae patterns online.  I found them on a website, knittingfever.com i believe, and all i could find was where retailers can purchase them.  And I'm absolutely in love with most of the patterns in Ella Rae #7.  So if anyone knows any info about these, I will love you forever!  Smiley
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Knit-Out at Mall of America on: February 14, 2007 12:42:06 PM
I was just reading about this on here http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/knitoutbrochure.html

Has anyone ever been to one of these, and if so, is it worth going to?  I am in Indiana and I am just now finding out about it, so it would be quite a drive, at the last minute, if I decide to go.  So if anyone wants to share experiences or whatever. Smiley
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Cable and seed stitch hat on: February 09, 2007 07:50:29 PM
This is a hat I saw in the winter Knit Simple. I knit it with Plymouth Galway.  I LOVE it.  I knitted it for a friend though, so I have to give it up.  Anyway, here it is. Smiley

10  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Cabled Handbag on: February 05, 2007 09:00:38 PM
This is a bag I made tonight for my sister-in-law.  I used this pattern basically but took the ribbon idea from the margaret nicole bags (which are gorgeous) http://www.yarniverse.com/page.htm?PG=FreePatterns

i used two strands of caron simply soft and size 10 needles.  it made the guage different from the pattern so i just knit it until it was the length i wanted.  hope she likes it Smiley
