6  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Overdying soysilk? on: September 20, 2007 03:24:17 PM
So today I was lucky enough to score 3 free skeins of Pastimes (100% soysilk) from my LYS.  It was on sale for $3 but i think the colorway is hideous, and she told me I could just have them to see what I could do with it.  What a deal!  I've dyed yarn with koolaid before, but I didn't know if there is anything special you have to do with soysilk.  I've never over-dyed anything.  So any suggestions for colors or specific kinds of dyes that would work with this well would be great.  I basically want to make it a more monochromatic scheme, maybe focus on the greens and blues and cover the orange.  If that's possible.  Any suggestions (please and thank you)?   Btw, new to this board, so hello.  I'm usually on the knitting boards.  Smiley

here's my yarn.  the orange is VERY bright.  i really don't like the orange and blue together at all.  blech. but i'm optimistic.
7  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Cherie Amour-along (knitty fall 07) on: September 18, 2007 08:34:44 AM
i was just wondering if anyone knows how often handpaintedyarns.com has more yarn available.  almost all of the colors in the recommended yarn don't have enough available for the whole sweater.  i know i definitely want to use it though. i've been drooling over that yarn and the colorways and the price, but didn't know what to knit with it until now.   Sad  hopefully they have new batches soon.   anyone have much experience with them?
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: A very bad dog. on: September 13, 2007 11:50:53 PM
aww i can definitely feel your pain.  i have a 15 month old english mastiff (he's a BIG boy!) and lately my boyfriend and i have been extra busy and he has just been a terror.  i feel bad because i get mad and upset when he destroys things, when i know he is just bored cause we're at work/school.  a couple weeks ago he crapped on 2 textbooks ($200) that i had to clean off and continue to use because like i'm going to shell out the money for new ones...    and today i was gone for an hour, and i don't know what got into him but i came home to a half eaten chuck taylor (a pink one, my favorite!), destroyed sunglasses, and the plug chewed off of my phone charger.  i was so upset but i knew why he did it and i that i shouldn't have left them out in the open, and his face is sooooo adorable.  so i forgave him.  but ::sigh::  he's expensive.    luckily though he has never touched my knitting.  ::knocks on wood::

i would crate my boy, but he is so big and we live in a small apartment, the crate would take up half a room.  just not gonna happen at the moment.  maybe when we get a bigger place.

here's my boy, Sir Mack.  oh and the other one is the boyfriend. Smiley

EDIT:  forgot he was already on my avatar, but oh well.  he's cute.

woohoo! finished my first tube today.   this is soooo tedious.  it's going to be so pretty and warm though.  i want to knit some gloves and a hat to much, i need to find a hat pattern i like that would look good with it.  and just some basic gloves.  it'll be my first whole set.  yay!

i got my yarn today!!  i love the color.  i got a little start on it between class and work, but just the first part, and then barely started one of the tubes.  and now i have to do homework, waah.  damn school and work!  but when i get some decent progress i will post!   happy knitting!
