1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / upcycling balloons on: July 27, 2008 09:45:08 AM
I make art out of balloons.

Here is box that I decoupaged with balloons.  It's my x-acto knife box..

If you want to know how to do it, I posted a tutorial herehttp://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/balloon_art

Hope you like it  Grin  Yay for recycling old balloons!

2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / New plastic on: May 17, 2008 01:18:28 PM
I got an accidental day off today when my gig was canceled... so I sat around and decided to draw on some shrinky dink plastic...   I used prisma color pencils, and a (get this) Bic brand Mark-it pen... I know that everyone loves sharpies(as do I) but I have found that the black Bic Mark-it pens work wonders on top of the prisma colored pencils... I like them better for shrinky dink work...

This is my first time ever using Shrinky Dink Brand... usually I buy the off brand that they sell at Ben Franklin's..

things that I love about Shrinky Brand:
-Already roughed and ready!  no sanding!
-holds color great!
-nice and thick

things that I don't like about Shrinky Brand:
-seems to be more fragile than off brand...
-tears easily when trying to cut and turn sissors..
-couldn't cut through it with my x-acto knife easily... curvey shapes were a challenge.

And without further ado(sp?) here are my new shrinky drawings.

NOTE: these have not yet been shrunk, I'm pretty excited to see just how intense the colors come out AFTER I shrink them!

-I'll try to remember to add pics later of the finished products..

3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Zombie, Swirls, and another teeny tiny face pendant... on: December 28, 2007 07:37:21 AM
Last night I post my tiger and butterfly masks... Now here are a zombie, swirly face, and fancy face..

I'm really enjoying making them!    I make the blank ceramic pendants, and then paint the designs on top in underglazes...

I hope that you like them ^_^

4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / RAWR! Tiger and other fun mask pendants... on: December 27, 2007 04:56:45 PM
Here are my newest additions to my painted mask jewelry collection...

They are all about 1 inch, maybe 1 1/2 inches tall..

I make the pendants by pouring porcelain into a plaster mold, drying them, smoothing them, firing them, painting them with underglazes, and then clear coating and one last firing in the super hot kiln... (obviously the ones in this pic have only been painted and not clear coated just yet... but their time will come!)

They are lots of fun to make!

Tell me what ya think ^_^

5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Sewing Vinyl for a tablecloth??? on: November 30, 2007 09:32:01 PM
I would like to make some tablecloths.  But, they would be used for when I'm out painting, so... I would like to have vinyl sewn on top of the base fabric, so that I can easily wipe the paint off of them... question:

Is this practical?  Does vinyl sew well?  Would I have to quilt it?  Would moisture get trapped in between the sections?  Does this idea suck?

Thanks, I would really appreciate any advice!
6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Nifty New Plastic Things (5 IMG'S) on: November 04, 2007 08:59:47 PM
Here are my first attempts at shrink plastic thing-a-ma-bobs....

Most have holes and will be made into jewelry... some into pins and badges..   Some have no holes.. any idea of what to do with them?

The largest ones are about the size of a silver dollar and the rest are about quarter sized...

There is also a pic of the color chart which I made of all of my marker colors...

This is my first post for my little plastic thingies.. I hope yall enjoy ^_^

9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / 40th birthday hat for my mom! on: August 01, 2007 08:01:14 PM
My mom's 40th birthday was yesterday...

I needed something funny for her to wear that wouldn't offend her "over the hill" status...

So I made one out of twisty balloons... I'm a face painter, and my boyfriend is a balloon artist... He taught me the basics, and this was one of the first balloon hats that I've ever come up with on my own!  yay!

hope you like it!
