11  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / 3 Saturday Market Bags (MagKnits) on: August 31, 2007 03:15:35 PM
I haven't knit anything for myself in a while, so I was excited to knit these before vacation! I couldn't help myself and made 2 other bags for the other girls on the trip too.

I used the mods from distressed and made it with 2 separate straps. Each bag took just over 1 skein of Sugar N Cream.

12  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / What was your first project? on: July 19, 2007 03:20:24 PM
I'm wondering how common the scarf is as a first project... Smiley

What was your first project?

Did you enjoy it?

If you could do it again, what would you pick as your first project?
13  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Mosquito Repellents on: June 04, 2007 11:08:05 AM
I'm really allergic to mosquito bites so I did a forum search and found some good suggestions for dealing with the itch. I've recently been trying the clear nail polish method, and if I get it on the bites fast enough, it definitely keeps the itch away.

Does anyone have any good ways of keeping the mosquitoes away in the first place?! (Other than Skin So Soft and Deet products.) I don't mind spraying myself, but then I need to take a shower when I get back inside. And, I don't like spraying myself down just to be outside for 10 minutes. Help!!
14  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Looking for Ostrich Feathers on: April 20, 2007 02:49:26 PM
I wasn't sure which board would be best for this question...

A friend of mine is looking for ostrich feathers to make centerpieces for her wedding. She's looking to buy about 400 feathers (~ 1 lb.). If possible, she'd like them to be light pink.

Does anyone have any ideas about where to look? She's found a couple of sites, but they're pretty expensive. Here's an example of the centerpiece she wants to make.

15  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Need Gift Ideas for a 1-Year Old Girl on: April 16, 2007 03:39:12 PM
One of my good friend's little girl is turning 1 in a couple of weeks! I knit an awesome blanket for the baby shower, and have knit plenty of hats and mittens in the last year.

Does anyone have ideas for a gift for her 1st birthday? I'm pretty crafty, but I'd prefer to stick to knitting or sewing.

16  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Red Drop-Stitch Shawl on: March 29, 2007 08:47:51 AM
I absolutely love this shawl! It's big and warm, and has fun fringe. As the title says, it's a simple drop stitch pattern.

Full shot with fringe:

17  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / First Crocheted Dishcloths on: March 29, 2007 08:42:45 AM
I'm a knitter, and I've crocheted edges before, but I've never crocheted an entire anything. So, I crocheted 2 dishcloths (1 in SC, 1 in DC). I know they're the easiest things to do, but I'm still excited. Smiley

18  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / need to weaken magnetic snaps on: March 03, 2007 05:52:40 PM
I bought some square magnetic snaps to add to my purses, however, I just discovered their strength! They're really difficult to pull apart.

Are there any ways to weaken the snaps? I'm thinking I can place them behind the lining, so there will be two pieces of fabric between them, but that covers up the fact that they're square... (which I'd like to show off) Do I have any other options?

19  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Baby Bobble Hat and Mittens on: February 23, 2007 06:13:30 PM
I've been wanting to make a bobble hat for a while, and I finally got to make one for my friend's baby. Way belated Christmas gift!! I also added in a pair of matching bobble mittens. I LOVE making baby items!! They always turn out so cute.

I used Lionbrand Jiffy in White and Dusty Pink.

20  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / All White Anthro Inspired Scarf on: February 23, 2007 08:57:24 AM
My friend absolutely LOVES shopping at Anthropologie. She recently started traveling for work, so I decided to make her an all-white scarf based on this one from Anthro:

It's made using 1 strand of Joann Sensations Carlo Carlo White, 1 strand of Lion Brand Microspun Lily White, an 1 strand of Caron Simply Soft - White. The carlo gives the scarf a little shimmer when the light hits it.
