That coin purse is so cute! The "yarn" worked up very nicely.

I finally finished staining and oiling my new jumbo sliding hook flyer, so this week was a big spinning week for me! I hadn't spun in a while, so I had a lot of fun. Smiley

I started the week with a small color study. I took this merino roving and split it in half. I then plied one half with a solid white merino, and the other half with solid black merino. I was pleasantly surprised at how vibrant the colors are against the black. I had assumed they would get kind of lost.

The Roving:

For this one I hand carded a multi-green coopworth wool with grey alpaca and a bit of white merino, then spun it woolen.

And, I have a skein of a peachy/reddish merino drying!

It seems like my friends' babies come in waves. A couple of weeks after finishing my last baby blanket I started on this one. Baby blankets are so cute and quick to knit!

Yarn: 3.3 balls of Lion Brand Cotton-Ease in Lake
Needles: Size 8

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Feather and Fan Striped Baby Blanket on: September 09, 2008 07:38:02 AM

Thanks everyone!

A lot of literature I've seen says the contrasting black and white patterns are good for eye development. Smiley
SkyyAngel - That's good to know. Smiley

At first I felt weird about making a black and white baby blanket, but by the time I finished it I loved it! I made it for friends whose nursery is black and white with accents of lemon yellow. I washed it before mailing it off to make sure all the ends stayed woven in and I was pleasantly surprised that washing it made the pattern really open up.

Dimensions: 36" wide x 44" long
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft in Black, White, and Soft Yellow
Needles: Size 9
Pattern: My own - modified from my Feather and Fan Shawl pattern

10  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: Newbie Alert: how do you clean a hand carder? on: August 08, 2008 04:23:00 PM
I find a lace weight crochet hook is fantastic.
Yes, you have to drag it though and it takes some time but MAN it works well!

I wish I had thought of that a few weeks ago! I got a couple sets of hand carders that hadn't been used in 20+ years. I sat there with toothpicks cleaning out every row and column! After that I took the vacuum to them to make sure I got everything. Now they're nice and clean.
