21  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: A cool place for embroidery "patterns" on: November 11, 2005 10:29:48 PM
Something I figured out working with dingbats on my current project:  When I decide which dingbat I want to use and what size I want it, I flip the image horizontally and then change the font color to something light but functionable. I've been using a pale lime green, for example.

This way, when I print the final image and trace it, it's much easier to see where my marks are going than it would be if the print out were black or grey. Cheesy
22  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: So how does one make a "brain" pincushion anyway? on: November 10, 2005 08:51:01 PM
What about making one or two skinny long tubes, filling them with either sand or stuffing and attaching them to another form (basically a half circle filled with pillow stuffing) to make the ridges? Then you could make them all squiggly like brains!

I love this idea and hope you'll posted pictures of whatever your final project is. Smiley
23  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Re: Thoughts While Stitching on: November 10, 2005 08:48:19 PM
Like a lot of others, I watch TV, movies or listen to music while embroidering at home. Someone else said that their stitching varies depending on what they're listenign to, and I've found the same thing. Smiley I'm currently working on a set of Ani Difranco towels for a friend and have been rocking out to her music whilst embroidering.

I also take my embroidery with me anywhere. Last week, I was stitching whilst I waited in line at the DMV for three hours. Then, I was mostly thinking how gratifying it was to be doing something with my time other than waiting!
24  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Cheapskates, anyone? on: November 10, 2005 08:40:12 PM
A basic Google search leads me to believe the site no longer exists, but you can still look at old articles via The Internet Wayback Machine.

That's awesomely unique. Way to go!

Thanks for the hints, Lulu. I think my original stitches were too large and have good hope for smaller stitches.

I was originally using 3, then downgraded to 2 strands and even attempted 1. I'll start again with two and your recommended closer stitches. Thanks!
27  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Re: Meet Ups board on: November 05, 2005 06:58:19 AM
Is there a reason this can't be accomplished on the local boards? I already go to the Maryland and DC boards to see if there are local events, and it seems consistent to go there for meet-ups too?
28  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Re: "Adult" projects board on: November 05, 2005 06:52:58 AM
Though I'm not too keen on the idea of an adult board in general (threads are usually clearly labeled and I'd hate to see every li'l bit of nudity greeted with "Wouldn't this be better placed on the adult board?"), I really dislike the password protection idea. It's impossible to enforce, lots of trouble to maintain, and creates undo curiousity over vibrator cozies, imho.

29  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: Honest opinions wanted on my Etsy store Please on: November 05, 2005 06:37:28 AM
Real cute store, reasonable prices. As CraftyChef mentioned, it might be useful to create a dolls and a people section so your shoppers know for certain what they're looking at. Lovelovelove the cowl/hood.

I'm doing my first bit of embroidery with text and have been pretty frustrated with how the words are turning out. Anyone got any hints for embroidering text? Smiley
