1  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 118 ENTRIES / Snail's Trail Mini Quilt on: April 10, 2017 06:40:52 PM

I made this tiny quilt for craftylittlemonkey in the recent Mini Quilt Swap. She had a number of octopi on her Pinterest board, which is how I picked the snail's trail for the block, and she said earth tones were her favorite.

It's about 14" in diameter. This picture shows the scale a little better.

The tiny black pieces are 3/4" squares.

The back kept making me hungry. It seriously looked like a pizza until I put the hanging loops on  Grin
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Animal Pyramid Ornaments on: December 18, 2016 11:08:30 AM
Here are some stuffed ornaments I made the last few years. A couple were for my niece & nephew, and the rest were for the Sweat Shoppe Ornament swap R6.
I have layouts/templates if anyone is interested.

Linen & broadcloth with black velvet noses.
The goldfish was by far the most complex.

I'm going to try a bluejay, red fox & polar bear next.
3  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Bastet Sock Kitty on: August 16, 2016 04:45:55 PM
made for angielou1 in the Sock Monkey swap R10

i mashed up her themes for "feline" and "ancient lore". Bastet (or Bast) was an ancient Egyptian cat goddess with the body of a woman.

you don't usually see her with a tail, but since that made her more monkey-like, i decided to add it. i put a few darts in to make it curl up at the end, and gave her more of a waist than a normal monkey.

4  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Wicked Topsy Turvy Doll on: June 21, 2016 04:08:12 AM
made for aisy in the Topsy Turvy Doll Swap

galinda's face looks a little squished. i needed to draw her features larger, or further down. oh well.

i wish i had taken a picture so you can see the dolls are connected, but it was late and i forgot  Wink

5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Celtic Applique Dragon on: June 11, 2016 02:10:02 PM
made for roler in the Vikings, Pirates & Ninja Swap
i used a dobby-weave fabric for the dragon, which gives it some texture. the background is linen.

7  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects / L from Death Note Hoop on: March 23, 2016 04:12:18 PM
this was for DaphadillyArt in the Anime & Manga swap
she mentioned her two favorite color schemes being grey & rainbow, so i made her a reversible hoop!

it's fusible applique with details drawn in micron pen. i printed the outlines of the shapes i needed directly onto steam-a-seam sheets.
the candy base is fussy-cut felt with soutache sewn on.

what the heck, here's a close-up of L, too.
(if i made this again, i would back his applique with something so the rainbow doesn't show through as much, and so the soutache doesn't make him look so lumpy.)
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Harry Potter House Earrings on: March 05, 2016 10:09:12 AM
Slytherin & Ravenclaw house earrings made for the Back to Hogwarts Swap

9  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Harry Potter Marauders Quilt on: March 05, 2016 09:59:02 AM
hi guys! i made this lap quilt for the Back to Hogwarts Swap. my original idea was to make an HP-themed Baltimore Album quilt (i.e. all hand-turned applique) but for time and sanity reasons had to simplify the plan along the way. so instead of all of puzzled_penguin's favorite HP things, i focused on the marauders, which were the first blocks i'd finished.

this is the first full-size-ish quilt i've done. thankfully my mom is an experienced quilter, so i was calling her up 5 times a day for advice  Cheesy
it's about 60"x60", with a flannel backing.

sorry about the dark/fuzzy pics. i was taking photos at midnight before packing it up

...and instead of hand-appliqueing the house animals, went with pieced color blocks

10  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Woodland Bunting on: February 26, 2016 04:56:27 PM
made for Ludi in the Woodland Creatures swap

screech owl

fairy door... i did try several different methods for covering the door in ivy, but couldn't get it to look quite right. in the end, i just remade a plain door.

brown bat

more mushrooms!

i used rackycoo's tutorial for the paper medallions and then glued tie tacks on the backs so that they were removable for folding & shipping.
