1  Mosaic Art Project turned Quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by DanishDynamite on: June 05, 2006 11:22:15 PM
I created this for a project in a humanities class. We had to make a mosaic using early Christian symbols. Everyone was doing either tile/grout or paper triangles, but I wanted to try something I knew more about.
I decided that a quilt is basically a mosaic- the cloth pieces=tesserae and the actual quilting stitches=the grout.
The picture is a sunrise with the light touching the cypress trees. The cypress trees represent death and the sunrise represents the advent of christ and the ressurection.
The quilt itself is all diamond pieces, about two inches in length. The stitching is white thread, and I did not quilt around every little diamond, I skipped rows. It is kinda hard to see in the picture. The quilt is about 3.5 feet x 3 feet.

I definately suggest making a quilt sometime in your life, this was my first and it was quite a challenge, even for its small size. It taught me a serious lesson about how good it feels to finish such an in-depth project and not cut corners.
