21  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: First Quilt Square. your opinion. on: March 18, 2008 08:37:46 PM
What a cute little square! You did a great job, and I bet your mom is just beaming. But be warned, quilting is SO addictive!

yes, ditto to all of that!
22  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Re: a few cloth diapering questions on: March 18, 2008 08:30:26 PM

1.) how do i know which diapers need covers?
Anything that does not have a waterproof layer already (usually PUL) will need a cover.  The ones that do not need covers are usually called All-In-Ones (AIO's) or All-In-Two (AI2), or pockets
2.) is it much more difficult to put a diaper and a cover on a squirmy baby than just a diaper?
sometimes, yes, but if you start from birth or soon after, you will have the hang of it by the time they become squirmy
3.) when you use a cover do you also have to pin or snappie or velcro the diaper?
no, not always.  Lots of parents have been able to trifold a prefold and lay it in the cover.
4.) what is the one thing you wish someone had told you before you invested in what you did?
with my big babies, not to even bother with NB sizes.  We use sposies until the cord falls off, and by then they're ready for smalls.  try a little of everything before you invest a huge amount of money.   www.diaperswappers.com is a great place to get nice used diapers to try.

food is always good, esp. if this is their first.  Keep in mind if she is nursing, she will not want empty calories, so something like blueberry muffins or such would be good.  Something she can munch on in between visitors and appointments.  You'd be surprised how quickly the time escapes you those first few weeks and before you know it you haven't eaten all day!

(who is expecting her 3rd in May and hoping some neighbors will bring her treats)

those are great!  do you have to "seal" them somehow so they do not wick?
25  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / what has been distracting me from my quilt... on: March 04, 2008 10:13:27 PM

It's a fitted using the fattycakes pattern.  A snap press is on the way to me, so no fasteners, yet!  JA flannel inner and outer with an internal microfiber soaker and a lay-in soaker of microfiber topped with flannel.

Forgive the mess, I was just gifted a bunch of clothes and am sorting them!   Wink  This pic shows how well it fits her chunky thighs!

28  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: quick, easy, stunning pattern? on: February 13, 2008 10:52:11 PM

Just as a suggestion........have you thought of asking her for any of their clothes they've outgrown?...........Favorite outfits could add up to a much loved quilt........... Wink  (I've even thought of using my son's stuffed animals to do one......... Grin )

I love this idea, but I want it to be anonymous  Grin

And if their mother truly is a creative person...........she'll appreciate the hard work that goes into anything you do for  them......... Smiley

and this is an EXCELLENT point Smiley

I want to bless a friend of mine with some quilts for her kiddos.  I'm thinking baby/crib size.  my only thing is, she is SUPER SUPER creative and I can't give her just a bunch of fabric sewn together.  Does anyone have any recommendations for me?
