1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / medicine pop tops to jewelry & hair clips on: August 09, 2010 09:58:42 PM
I work in a busy trauma center in the ER and collect these pop tops and have decided to start making jewelry with it. the only problem I am having is trying to get a hole in barrettes (metal plain barrettes) so that I can connect them more securely, I don't want them to fall off. let me know what you think

2  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / medicine pop tops on: July 24, 2010 12:09:29 PM
what would you do with these? they are small plastic tops from the medications we use. I LOVE them, I collect them at work (I'm a nurse in the ER) and here are my ideas:

jewelry (earrings, bracelets)
pony tail binders
cards (glued on to drawings)
t-shirts (sewn on to drawings)

3  COOKING / Dessert / white cake on: March 18, 2010 10:49:05 AM
hi all, I am making a birthday cake for a neighbor girl, she wants a white cake w/o chocolate frosting (I usually either make chocolate cake w/buttercream or yellow cake w/chocolate frosting...)

can I use cream cheese frosting for a white cake? I have a great cc frosting recipe, but want it to taste good, or do I just need to make a buttercream for it?
4  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / firefly costume on: October 30, 2008 08:05:35 PM
I made a ladybug and firefly costume for my daughter this year. this is the back of the firefly, the butt has a light in it so it lights up when it's dark. I'm having trouble figuring out how to attach the lady bug arms to her - they are paper mache so pretty stiff, almost turtle-shell like and a bit heavy...any suggestions?

5  COOKING / Dessert / Hello Kitty Birthday Cake on: October 30, 2008 07:50:09 PM
here's my birthday cake for my daughter's 4th birthday - SUPER happy with how it turned out, she LOVED it!

6  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / who-terus? on: August 04, 2008 07:41:27 PM

I haven't posted a pic on here in MONTHS due to overload with nursing school. so when I tried to post yesterday I was like -?! HOW DO I POST?! I FORGOT!! then I read the BOLD RED at the top of the page. duh.

at the end of each clinical semester we get our instructors a thank you gift. my clinical instructor this semester is a great friend of mine, she also taught our maternity and pediatrics class. so what would be more appropriate than to crochet her a uterus? I saw the pattern on knitty, but I don't know how to read patterns, and I prefer to crochet, so I winged it and I'm super happy with it. you can see at the bottom she has a little sperm friend, and you can see some of spermy's friends have already traveled up into her cervix, only their tails are showing. hope you like it!

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / 24 hr pic swap? on: September 14, 2007 09:27:13 PM
I know in the past there have been "mini-swaps" (or something like that) where you basically have 24 hours to craft and send. the photo swap is finishing up and it was really fun, and it made me think of how fun it would be to do a "24 hour" photo swap where the participants take pics throughout one day...just a normal day...not so much artsy photos but "day in the life" photos with an artsy kick.
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / garage sale on: July 20, 2007 08:07:39 AM
ok, have to brag a tiny little bit. went garage saling a couple weeks ago and got all this yarn for $7!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited! but, down side? I'm in an accelerated nursing program for the next 16 months and won't have time to use it.  Sad just more incentive to study hard and get done, right?!

9  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / more punch needle on: May 13, 2007 09:11:02 AM
I love punch needle, too, and so was inspired by the rooster to post pics of my punch needle stuff. it's really hard to tell they are all 3-d, the floss is cut and sculpted, but you can't really tell in these pics  Sad
this one is "Mother, Daughter, Granddaughter" which is perfect for today, right?

and a close up of one of the women

when I gave birth I made this for my doula...who didn't show up, so I got to keep it for myself!

and my recent for my 5x5 swap...never mind that it's still in the hoop, I have to frame it

10  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / HELP! on: May 09, 2007 07:43:21 AM
ok, my dd's friend is turning 2 on Saturday, I made this bunny for her, but I am not sure if I love it or not. suggestions? should I take the pink face off and simply do button eyes? I woke up this morning and I like her a lot more than when I went to bed last night, so she is growing on me, but I want her to love it. thanks
