11  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Re: The best of my gemstone jewelry; UPDATED: more pics on page 3! on: January 28, 2007 10:16:45 AM
Thank you, everybody, for your wonderful comments! Feel free to check out my newest jewelry pieces at this thread -> https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=148660.0

catsjewelry: About how I did that braided ring... well, it's quite hard to explain. Took me more than a few attempts to get the braid looking even relatively tidy :I Just practice. And use some pretty thin-gauge wire.

ihatemyusername: I buy my beads from various online stores, mainly from the US and India. I can send you a few sample beads if you'd like Smiley
One of the tips to making professional-looking jewelry is... well, to use genuine stones Tongue High-quality glass beads are also ok sometimes, I guess, but plastic beads (especially those with seams showing) are totally out. Some of the commonly available and affordable gemstones I like to use include amethyst, fluorite, garnet, carnelian, serpentine, moonstone and various species (rose/lemon/smoky) of quartz. Also, don't forget freshwater pearls!

And to answer all of you who inquired if I sell these: please PM/e-mail me concerning this issue. I don't want to break the board rules by advertising.
12  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: EGL/EGA/SL/etc. garments, a bunch of them! on: January 28, 2007 10:03:59 AM
magicwitch666: I use mainly cotton fabric. It's relatively cheap and easy to work with.

I think I've made my mind up - I'll not be making any more clothes for sale. Doing the same kinds of garments over and over and over again has drained all the fun out of sewing.
13  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Four gemstone/silver rings on: January 28, 2007 10:01:00 AM
daydreamer: Yup, the base of the rings has been braided. It's kinda tricky to get it looking neat :I I'm sorry but I can't remember what gauge wire I used - probably something quite thin. Experiment with different gauges and see what works out the best ^^;

And once again: thank you, all! Smiley

Capng: Yes, I do (check my sig, although the site's in Finnish.)

All of you who are inquiring about the patterns: yes, I do make my own patterns. (I don't think I've ever used a ready-made pattern in my whole life... I don't even know if I'd be able to ^^; I just improvise on every piece as I get along.)
