1  Miniature polymer clay cake tutorial link - finally! :) in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Minagi on: April 15, 2007 02:46:23 AM
A few months ago I promised some of you to make a miniature polymer clay cake tutorial. Well, I finally had the energy to make it - check it out at

I really hope you like it... crafting the cakes + photographing the process + writing the tutorial took me around five hours Tongue

So, I was feeling creative last friday, and these pics show the results.

Freshwater pearls, fluorite, satin ribbon, sterling silver.

Springtime Dragonfly bracelet
Serpentine, three faceted tourmaline beads, sterling silver.

Purple Veil pendant
Amethyst, fluorite, sterling silver.

Sea Foam pendant

A necklace that hasn't got a name yet. (Any suggestions?)
Freshwater pearls, serpentine, fluorite, rose quartz, tourmalines, sterling silver. (This one took me nearly 5 hours to make - it has 73 gemstone beads in total!)

Close-up detail of the previous necklace.

So, what do you think?

4  Re: The best of my gemstone jewelry; UPDATED: more pics on page 3! in Beads: Completed Projects by Minagi on: November 29, 2006 10:19:07 AM
Okay, I managed to take some pics.

Tethys-earrings on a card, the second pair I've made. Much better than the original pair...

Tethys-necklace, or a part of it, on a card. Also the second I've made of these.

And then, for the controversial necklace which I just finished:

Nest Materials -necklace, made out of suede, satin ribbon, freshwater pearls, fluorite, tourmalines, smoky quartz, brass and sterling silver.

... and a closeup.

I'm not sure if I should add something to Nest Materials or take something away or what... uuh. I think I'll try again tomorrow, I'm afraid I've stared at the piece for so long I've lost all ability to judge it. And yeah, it's supposed to be asymmetrical and, uh, for lack of a better word, "strange" Smiley I think symmetrical necklaces are most often completely dull. Not my kind of thing at all!

5  Re: Cold Feet and 20 minutes of time.... Tutorial in Crochet: Completed Projects by Minagi on: November 29, 2006 10:12:55 AM
I'll join the choir: thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial! The last time I've crocheted anything was in grade school, and it was a kettle holder. (Since then I've totally sworn myself off of crocheting.) Aaaand... despite my complete n00bness I managed to crochet something not at all unlike a pair of cute slippers! (OK, even though the other one is larger than the other. Can't win always.)

I used a smaller hook and thinner wool than you suggested (I got inspired into trying my hands at this at 2 AM so I really couldn't march into a store and buy appropriate-sized equipment), so it took me something like 2,5 hours to get the pair finished :F

6  Re: Show off your hair! And questions about hair styles! in Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions by Minagi on: November 19, 2006 11:06:13 AM
Here you go. I just let my hair grow long, I never bother to do anything with it... just wash it every evening.
At its longest my hair was a over a meter in length, or something like 3.4 feet. At the moment my hair is deep red in colour (my natural hair colour is chestnut brown) and something like 2.7 feet in length.

And yes, I would say that I am slightly obsessed with my hair. It's the only beautiful part in me - otherwise I'm butt ugly :F The pics are from the past few years.

7  Four gemstone/silver rings in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Minagi on: November 19, 2006 10:31:03 AM
I did these a while ago. Not a very original idea to have four pieces of similar jewelry in different colours and them name them after the four seasons but hey, it just happened to go that way. Can't win always. Anyhoo, I love the rings themselves! What do you think? :)

Winter: freshwater pearls, flower jade, fluorite, iolite, amethyst, tourmalines, sterling silver

Spring: freshwater pearls, green garnet, tourmalines, peridots, sterling silver

Summer: freshwater pearls, amethyst, garnet, tourmalines, sterling silver

Autumn: freshwater pearls, carnelian, citrine, tourmalines, sterling silver

8  Meet Esmeralda, a gothic doll. in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Minagi on: November 19, 2006 09:45:17 AM
Esmeralda is the first cloth doll that I've made. I made her last summer, just to test how dolls like this are fabricated.

I'm pretty happy with her pose, her balance and her expression, but I certainly could have done the stitching more neatly. Plus her clothes _suck_, except for the stripey socks - making the doll itself took me so much time I was totally starting to lose interest by the time I got to her clothes. My attention span isn't exactly the longest there is!

Anyway, here are some photos. (They're a bit crappy, the light in my living room just went out and I didn't have any proper light to shoot by the pics by :F )

9  Miniature cakes & sushi :) in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Minagi on: November 18, 2006 10:40:13 PM
Update 15/04/07: The cake tutorial I promised to make is FINALLY up! Check it out at http://minagi.hybridi.net/minagi/crafts/tuts/polycakes/polycakes.html

This was the first time ever I made Cernit miniatures of anything, and I think I succeeded pretty well :)
Most of the cakes are about an inch in diameter, some as little as 0.7 inches. (Note that the ruler in one of the pics has centimetres marked, not inches.)

And then the sushi arrangements - the scale is so small that the chopsticks are thinned and shortened matchsticks :)

Feedback would be appreciated :)

10  Re: don't make me go zelda on you in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Minagi on: November 18, 2006 10:25:10 PM
:D ! This is great!

I'm a huge old school VG nerd too, check out what kind of a view I have from my toilet seat :D

Oh yes, I just had some girls from the uni over who have never been here before... the kind of boring folk who have never even laid eyes on a game console, let alone old NESsie. Then one of them went to use the toilet and came back looking really, really confused :D Priceless. /o/
