11  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / 3am. darts in a skirt. what could possibly go wrong? on: April 26, 2008 03:03:47 AM
Couldn't sleep. I reached into Half Finished Stuff Box. I pulled out a skirt I started a year ago that went very wrong. No pattern. Too small in the waist. That's ok, made it shorter. Fit in the waist. Fit too well and gaped. That's ok. That's why someone invented darts. Thank you whoever that is. No Gaping Waist Looking silly pics. But plenty of my attempt at darts. My attempt at darts after my attempt at skirt with no pattern. I think it took no fewer than 17 tries to get the zipper in. Whatever this fabric is deserves an A+ for durability.

sorry, shadows, and taking pics behind my back wasn't the greatest idea.

maybe with some ironing it will look better? I felt brave sewing darts randomly and wildly with no idea what I was doing.
12  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / an apple a day keeps boredom away on: April 22, 2008 11:37:25 AM
i had one of my mom's XL red cord button up shirts. i want to keep her clothes but. well. they don't fit me. the obvious thing to do is recon them all and turn the scraps into a crazy quilt so. in that line.

but that was called frumpy by everyone.

ok apparently frumpy meant 'make it shorter'

found some apple fabric in my mom's scrapstash.

and those are the happy little apples on the hem

so.. that's my recon.. shirt to appley skirt. none of my beautifulcreatures were in the photo, they're all ticked that i had the audacity to stand on the bed where they sleep to get enough light to take pics. poor kitties.
13  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / very plain cushion covers on: April 15, 2008 03:57:53 PM
Was trying to do something with my apartment. spent a few hours this morning sewing a few things and straightening up, taking mattress off of frame and hanging curtains.. then I found out I might be moving in a month or two. Not Pleased.
but. I did get some cushion covers sewn. and as discombobulated as I feel at the thought of moving.. at least they can come with me. They're plain borin' tan but I figure I can do more to them later and the bedroom's pretty bright as is already sooo.. anyway.

the pillows before. a gigantic blue cushion my mom fell in love with and has been kicking around ever since. the middle pillow my grandfather gave me right before he died, and the top pillow is the pillow that goes with my childhood blankie. All 3 pillows have to stay but didn't want them as is-

the after, yeah they're plain tan for now. but especially since we might be moving and I have no idea where to or how things will be don't want to do anything else to them in the mean time. the stack of em

a pic of the back to show that they're, I don't know what you call it? envelope style so I can pull the covers off and wash them easily.. imperative with my menagerie.

hmm and now I'm going to go strip off the covers and make them tidier since I'm even more displeased with them seeing them in pics Wink quickie work shows eh?

14  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / curtains, bedding, and rugs, OHMY! but which ones? on: April 09, 2008 12:47:18 AM
finally got the bedroom decluttered and only the stuff in it that i want in it. Now I'm trying to figure out what it should look like. It's sort of uhm bright/dark depending on who looks at it in horror and then later tries to describe it. the furniture's all staying, though the bed's coming off the frame and going directly on the floor and i want a larger bamboo mat where the small runner is now.  What I can't decide is what colour bedding/curtains/general linens I should get. I'm pretty sure I want something solid coloured, but not entirely sure :/Also think I want something neutral, black, white, or tan/brown/kahki but again, I just don't know. Any good concept would be greatly appreciated. I really just kind of want a finished room. and a black damask duvet cover and white gauze curtains aren't doing it for me. I was thinking about just making two separate sets of bedding/curtains/cushion covers but not sure if I want to go through the work of swapping it all out every time I do laundry.
Lost aimless and couldn't fall asleep so started looking around the bedroom and feeling cranky about it.

that's what you see when you walk in the door

that's the next wall

comfy nest of a bed, and I really did love the bright multicoloured fabric I made the pillowcases out of it but that's all there was of it.

and back around to the door

15  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / chair of discontent to stool for snugglejammies on: April 07, 2008 10:38:10 PM
much tension with boyfriend. Went for walking meditation<read this as walked out of apartment as calmly as possible to stay away until i could interact like a civilised human being rather than raw ball of emotion> immediately found... a chair by the dumpster!

well. a sort of broken chair. with one leg separated from the rest. and a side spindle missing... hmmm.

but that's ok. because i'd wanted a place for my boyfriend to put his pj's.. somewhere other than the floor.. and i have a jigsaw, drill, dowels, wood glue, wood putty, sandpaper, and glossy black spray paint to cover a multide of sins. also had some tan material to cover up the clear vinyl over scary white dirty print. how'd it get dirty UNDER the vinyl?
but. after 2 hours, a pear cider, and a disagreement with one of my cats-

not really cool like some projects here but at least i did SOMETHING. i feel like my brain and hands have atrophied lately with apathy and inertia. maybe that's a source of my discontent and the grumbling at my best beloved? oh well, it got me out of the apartment long enough to find something to play with. so. yeay. i did something. and now cozy comfy PJs have a place to live while they wait for snuggle time.

by the way, the cat won.

so. I finished up the 25 pound bag of sticky rice and it had this great logo of a fish on it. I thought I'd turn it into a little handbag. The sack was made of a weird plastic burlap. My cats come into the room to help me. half an hour later, alot of tug of war later. messing up the lining. and a few more rounds of tug o war with the cats.... I have no hand bag. In fact there's not really any of the plastic burlap fabric stuff left. It's now in fine unravelled shreds all over the diningroom floor and the cats are locked up in the bedroom while I take a break, drink a cup of coffee and laugh before I go pick it up so I don't have to try and explain to my boss tomorrow how my cats got an intestinal blockage from eating meters and meters of plastic strips and can he please schedule in a quick surgery if he wouldn't mind.
17  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / posted months ago, back again on: November 25, 2007 02:18:29 AM
A few months ago I posted 1 or 2 super sloppy things. These last few weeks I've been lurking fanatically again. Now it's a little after two in the morning and I'm halfway through sewing a pocketed organizer to hang on my bathroom door. Seemed like a good time to take a break and say howdy to the board.
18  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / gaudy attempted skirt on: November 15, 2006 08:21:51 PM
I tried making a skirt based on a skirt i already had that fit really well and looked very simple. the original skirt didn't have the binding stuff at the bottom but i have a love affair going on with binding for some reason... there was more detailing around the waist but as the photos show i was having issues with fit and the waist already so i'm calling it done for now. i might go back and try to fix it but people are making fun of it and calling it Old Lady Fabric. ahck

this is it with a shirt convienently hiding the waist-

this is one where you can see where the waist kind of gaps. i think i'm going to try and take it in some.. there are side seams where i can try... except what you can't see in the pic quite so much is how tight it is in the hips so it sort of rides up and creases in the hip area if that makes sense... arg.

19  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / at least i tried... right? on: November 15, 2006 05:20:43 PM
Lately I've been struck by the urge to make stuff.. something. anything. Saw a wallet tutorial and thought I'd try that. mutilated it and thought hey, maybe a purse would go over better. Not so much.

The topic says it though- At least I tried. Hopefully I'll be posting here more in the future and my sewing skillz will vastly improve so I don't have to continue hanging my head in absolute shame and mortification.

In retrospect I wish I hadn't tried putting that binding around the edges of the wallet, it became extremely thick and difficult to work with and by the time I got to the purse I felt like I was beating my head into a brick wall. Better luck to me next though eh?
