i've had a soft spot for mobiles for a long time... and i finally decided to try mobile-making out for myself... and let me tell you - i've got a new appreciation for balance.

it's tough getting a good picture of something that - by definition - moves. but here it is:

so this is what i managed to make with some fishing line, an embroidery hoop, a few chipboard shapes and bits and pieces of papers, some buttons and lace. and tiny clothespins. etc.

I was inspired by the very awesome footstool at http://craftapalooza.typepad.com/crafted/2006/12/index.html

Mine, however, is not quite as nice - though it's made entirely out of some of my old skirts and shirts -

I've stuffed it with plastic grocery bags since I still had some laying around from my pre-canvas days.  Still hitting up all of my friends and coworkers for theirs so it'll be nice'n'full:

This is the first thing I've knit - I figured I'd give myself lots of practice and make something useful.  It's like... a really big swatch Smiley

I made it with yarn I had leftover from my first crochet project (I made coasters - one pictured with the placemat - back in the fall)

Now I just have to make three more - yeesh!

I got a sewing machine for Christmas and this was my first project (back in January).  It's finally warm enough to wear it - yayay!

I made it with a New Look pattern but got annoyed with it halfway through and just did my own thing from there.  It's held up pretty well - but when I wash it, the edges of the fabric frays (they're on the inside, but it's still annoying) - any tricks on how to make that... not happen?

Made these last weekend - not exactly a quick project, but fun!  Still working on a fourth one to match the one on the right.

I worked on these simultaneously last fall - they're my first stabs at crocheting and now I'm an addict!

Made with Bernat Soft Boucle cos that's what the craft stores had and I was impatient!

I made this for a girl that I babysit - she's three years old and yellow and pink are her favorite colors - the photog isn't that great, but you can get the idea - I used a much smaller crochet hook than the pattern called for in order to make it toddler sized:

I took a fused glass class this past fall and absolutely loved it.  Here are a few things that came out of it - many of the edges are wonky, or things didn't fuse quite as I expected - but you live and learn!

Retro butter dishes:

Tulip wall haging:

Penguin wall hanging: (though it does look much more like a puffin...)


I was particularly bummed with the wonky edges on the pendants - my glass cutting skills need some work (i.e. it was hard for me to cut glass *exactly* to the size I wanted it) - but I also had trouble estimating how much bigger to make the different layers so that they fused smoothly over the bottom pieces - any advice?

8  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Discussion and Questions / travel scrapbook - any ideas? on: May 02, 2007 09:35:48 AM
After graduating from college, I spent three months backpacking around Europe with some friends.  About a year later, I haven't mustered up the courage to attack to the thousands (literally) of photos from the trip to make the scrapbook -

I don't want to do a chronological thing - (90 days, yikes!) - and had a few ideas (Top 10 Lists from everyone who went, an ABC thing) - but was wondering if anyone had some good ideas on how to scrapbook the trip thematically, rather than chronologically?  And also - ways to get my fellow travellers involved...
