14  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: ETSY spin-off question- What have you BOUGHT? on: March 26, 2007 05:30:52 PM
I bought an amazing blue and white glass pendant from FireChickTick (known around here as TickleTickle).
15  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: Selling Merchandise with Licensed Images on Etsy on: March 26, 2007 04:45:25 PM
I think its faulty to say that if Disney infringed on someones copyright they would immediately be taken to court. There are many, many small business owners who are taken by larger companies and had their designs stolen and had no defense. Yes, copyright law has to be enforced to keep your copyright. However, when you don't have the money to protect your design you really are up the creek without a paddle.
If I came up with a great design today and six months down the line it was "appropriated" by some Giant Corporation, well, unless lawyers have started taking free work then I'd be out a design. It's sad to say, but whats good for the goose doesn't always work out for the gander.
Besides, I really never said that it was right to make money off someone else's ideas. I just attempted to point out the current positions of some of the sellers on Etsy.

froggyfibers,

My apologies.  My earlier post was not intended to cause offense, but I can see that I was unclear.  My last paragraph was a response to DisneyFan's original question, and the issue in general, not your post.  As you pointed out, having a right, and having the ability to enforce that right, aren't always the same thing, especially when an individual is up against a corporation.

17  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Re: REMOVE or Improve the 'Introduce Yourself Board'? on: March 26, 2007 08:05:55 AM
I totally see your point, OY, and I'll spend some time over there responding to people.  I definitely hope the board doesn't get removed though, because on sites where "Introduce Yourself"-type boards don't exist, people just introduce themselves wherever they feel like it and then the mods have to choose between deleting someone's introduction (not nice for them) or leaving introductions in inappropriate/annoying places (not nice for the rest of us).

The fact that people care enough to discuss this reminds me why I like Craftster so much!  Grin
