5  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / class project! TOUCHY FEELY BOX educational toy, must be evaluated on: January 28, 2007 01:30:58 AM
hi. ok for school we had to make an educational toy for out design and technology class. Basically was had to research, plan, design and create an educational toy for children og the ages 4 to 5.

The outside        the inside

The point of the game is to push the child to learn with his or her sense of touch to learn things. I put in a variety of objects and textures. There are only eight slots, but i have about 12 diffeent objects because the objects are on trays and can be moved around of our of the box. Meaning you can make a new challaenge each time.

the objects and textures i included were:
cloth                    foam
velvet                  sponge
towel                   balloons
string                  sandpaper
smooth rocks        plastic bag
cotton wool          styrofoam

On the outside of the box is a black cloth that is hung in place with a wefght on the bottom. It has a elcro strip below each flap for the child to place the name of the object within. On the bottom of each tray is the correct name of the object so the child can check.

This is how it would be set up for the child with the possible names infron of the box

This is an example of someone playing with the toy

She puts her hand in to touch the object of texture within

She then looks down at the words placed before her and attaches whatever word she thinks it is

To check if she's right we then open the flap and take a look ooh it looks right! however, if we cant tell, if you look on the underside of the tray, there will be the name of the object or texture.

here are some girls playing with the toy in our demo the other day!

here are some questiosn for YOU!! as a parent or if you have a brother or sister of that age of just ANYONE!! i need this evaluation! PLEASE!!!

1.  Do you think your child would enjoy this toy?
2.  Do you think the child will benefit from this toy?
3.  Does this toy meet your safety standards?
4.  How long do you think this toy will keep your children occupied?
5.  Do you think if you have more than one child, that the toy can be shared?
6.  Would you buy this toy for your child?
7.  How much would you pay for this toy?
8.  Do you feel the educational benefits of the toy to be strong?
9.  Do you have any improvements?

i live in hong kong btw.. so things are kinda limited.
but i do live next to a hotel thing but it';s small posh and kinda pricy even though my parents dont mind paying (they forgot my birthday last year... GUILT!)

1. I'm hoping to do the tie dye thing, just have everyone bring one white item and we can all tie tye

2. i dont mind if it's all girls or mixed (if it's all girls it's 20ppl including myself but if it's mixed it's 30 ppl)

3. i was dying to have a pinyata sp? i could make it

4. i was thinking i coulld give everyone a square of shrinky paper to make what ever they want (i have the reputation at school to be obsessed with making "amazing" jewelry! haha)

5. i was thinking if there was to be a movie, then to watch the rocky horror picture show since most my friends havent sen it or even heard of it for that matter!

6. I've planned it to be the afternoon of the last day of school and maybe the next day (if i can have a sleep over)

7. i kinda wanted to show pictures of myslef when i was little, you know like going through time.

see my problem right now is that everything would be perfect at my house, but i'm not allowed to, too much stress she says

well thats it from me, but i would love any help offered!!
