12  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / my very first quilt! on: August 23, 2007 10:51:31 AM
I wanted to make something special for my boyfriends grandmother. She is such a sweet lady and she had given me a bunch of her old material some of which very large, 17 yards to be exact.  SO I came to the conclusion that I would make her a quilt. The quilt itself is a bit larger then a full sized bed..

this is my very first quilt and I got the pattern and inspiration from  here https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=183628.msg1914207;topicseen#msg1914207

so without ado here the pics are.

this is the whole thing, I apologize for the wrinkles, I didn't have anyone to hold it up for me.

close up of the back, I didn't know how to do the corners so I just improved. and yes, it is silk around it for binding

this is a close up of the light blue material the color is a bit off but you get the idea

And last but not least this is a close up of the dark blue pattern

like I have said before this is my first quilt and I really like the way it turned out, although some of the stitches are a bit wonky..

14  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Help this is my first quilt!!! on: August 17, 2007 08:29:34 AM
I have no clue what I am doing! Is there anyone so kind as to explain to me the process of quilting. I've go a pattern in mind, but I don't know if I sew the pattern together or just to the backing?? I'm sorry if this is stupid or confusing, I don't know of anyone that quilts..
15  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / I need Ideas!! on: August 16, 2007 09:18:48 PM
I went with my boyfriend's grandparents house today and his grandma used to be/still is this amazing seamstress, and her and I went through some of her unused fabric and she gave me a bunch! It was super generous of her and she gave me a lot! she gave me one roll of fabric still in plastic and its 17 yards. its really pretty fabric and its super soft and all of that, but I just don't know what to do with any of it. she even gave me this dinosaur fabric that I fell instantly in love with! its super amazing. She even told me that one day her and I would dig into all of her fabric and ribbons and lace and she would give me more.

but to the point:

I would like to make her something nice but, I'm clueless. If any one has any ideas please let me know, I would really appreciate it.
16  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Anniversary gift on: August 07, 2007 09:21:15 AM
My boyfriend and my four year anniversary is this Sunday and I kinda know what I'm going to get him but I want some feedback...

The beginning of the summer we were talking and he said that he wanted a miniature Zen Garden, and we made a deal that before we went back to school that I would get him one and in return he would get me a Venus fly trap, to place on our desks. So I planned on picking him up one.

Also the other day I was helping him clean and reorganize his desk and he had no place to put his pens and pencils. He then jokingly told me to go out and buy him something to put them in. So, I was thinking about getting him one of those Precious mugs, so him and I could make something together and he can use it for his writing utensils.

Then I was going to make a very sentimental card for him, because he really likes them. We've been together for almost 4 years and in a few months I'll be 18. He means a lot to me and he's a wonderful guy.

I want to thank anyone that reads this and I welcome comments and suggestions.
