1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Toe Socks? on: October 14, 2010 04:20:56 AM
Hello Smiley

I have a collection of Toe Socks that I want to make things with!

Cool story - my daughter and I wore matching outfits for Christmas for quite a few years and our outfits always included toe socks Smiley  I kept them all for the purpose of one day making them into things for my grandkids!  Well, I have a 2 yr old beautiful grandson and I've made him a monkey and a fish so far!

Any other ideas??

I'm not sure what the struggle is but this might need more work....I can't decide....

And I'm not sure what it might need anyway!

Constructive criticism is welcome  Smiley

3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / Question about Graphic Design work on: April 07, 2009 03:08:16 PM
I'm hoping I might be able to get some ideas from some of you who have worked in Graphic Design.  I haven't had the chance to go to school for Graphic Arts but if I could I would and maybe some day I will.

In the meantime, I have come across a wonderful opportunity that I'm really excited about.  A business owner that I'm doing some painting for is developing a new line and asked me to work up some drawings for the first set of 40 designs.  She said we'll discuss a rate of pay for my designing work then I'll also get paid for the painting of the designs.  She already has a price for the painting but not the design work.

So my question is - what would you think is a fair price to ask if, although my designs are of a quality high enough to be accepted, I don't have a degree in the field or any schooling?  Should I just let her set the price?  I really have no idea what a fair rate would be and I want to be fair to both of us.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!!

Oh - just for the fun of it - you can find some of my fun creations here

It's Hagrid!

I now have little sheddings of brown fleece all over the house but it was worth it!

I couldn't decide if I should show pics of how I did the wig so if you wanna see, lemme know!

The rest of the costume is pretty easy to explain LOL
5  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / I found big Mi Tientes Paper! on: September 17, 2008 11:37:56 AM
So, I searched and looked and asked and shopped and finally found it!  I thought I'd share my find with any of you who use Canson Mi-Tientes and want to make big pics or maybe you make big pics and want another option for big paper!

This is a roll that measures 59"x11 yards and comes in black or white!

I actually called their 800 number because every place I've gone to has said that Canson doesn't make this any more.  When I called, they had 12 rolls of white and 6 rolls of black in stock and the woman said she doesn't see anything that says it's discontinued!

So, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping she and her computer are right!!

Let me know if it works for you and maybe post some pics!
6  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Tips for Participating in Craft Fairs / Ideas for small things to sell? on: September 06, 2008 09:26:49 AM

I am trying to get a well rounded bunch of stuff on my table.  I don't have anything less than $5 for sale and have one thing all the way up to $50!.

I have some flat marble magnets in the works but am wondering what other things I could have on my table for $2 and less.

Any suggestions?

OK, call me Last Minute Lucy if you must..........

Does anyone know where I can get those 'rare earth' neodymium-iron-boron type magnets in the Grand Rapids Area???  At the last minute, I decided to make a bunch of flat marble magnets for my booth at the Fulton St. Artisan's Market on Sunday, thinking I'd be able to get magnets easier than I have been able to!!

Does anyone know where I can get about 200 heavy duty magnets in the next day, here in GR???  Maybe someone has a stash I could buy from them???

Thanks in advance!!

Heehee.  I'm not sure if I can tell you how this idea came about.... There's stuff rolling around in my head....constantly.....it never stops..... Cool

First - the finished product -

Here's what I started with:

The Modge-Podge you know  Cheesy  The Paper was saved from the trash bin when I was working at a travel agency.  It's a really nice folder that I knew would have potential some day!!

Here's the pieces I came up with to use:

The yellow pieces came from the papers that were inside the folder!

Here's how I made the lid:

And here's a few 'action shots' - sorta -  Undecided  Wink

10  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Tips for Participating in Craft Fairs / Bring bags of marbles!! on: August 21, 2008 12:40:37 PM
I saw this great idea at an outdoor craft sale and it's gonna help in so many ways!  I thought I'd share it with all of you guys too -

The seller had filled a bunch of small cloth sachet bags with marbles and was using them in a bunch of ways!  Here are some ideas -

- On the edges of the cloths so things stay in place when the wind blows
- Behind easels so they don't tip over
- Under items that would look good on an angle
- Stabilize things that may be top heavy or light enough to possibly get tipped over

I bet you can come up with even more!  I'll be taking a bunch this weekend to two outside farmer's markets and if I come up with more ideas, I'll post 'em!!!
