3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Spring Happy Hour Swap? on: March 11, 2013 10:24:32 AM
We had one beautiful day this weekend, which has me anxious for springtime and happy hour on the patio weather.  I am wondering if anyone would be interested in a cocktail swap to help prepare?  I realize shipping actual booze is a no go, but boozy accessories are a whole other matter.  Recipes, glasses, accessories, non alcohol mixers, etc.  I originally thought of cocktails only, but we could add in beer and wine too.  Anyone interested?
4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Champagne Magnets on: January 26, 2009 10:05:44 AM
So...not sure where this one should go.  Just a simple quick project I did the other day.  My roommate and I have been saving the metal tops from the champagne bottles we open at work for the last few months.  After NYE, we decided it was time to empty the bowl and do something.  So here we have it, champagne magnets.

And here's a closeup of an Henriot top.

I had to cut some corks up to make discs for the back to allow the magnet to be high enough to make contact with the fridge...
5  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Page a Day Calendar?? on: January 20, 2009 02:28:47 PM
SO I stalked the Cute Overload page a day calendar until it went on clearance and bought myself one for my desk. (I LOVE that site - it makes me smile no matter how grouchy I am). Anyway, it hurts my little crafty/recycling heart to even think of throwing away these adorable pics.....see example

I'm thinking of using some to fold into little cards/envelopes to send with swap items, and maybe make some oragami out of some or use some of the pages to decoupage a frame....but there will be 365 pages.  Anyone have any suggestions for what I can do with them?
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Baseball Jordy Bag on: January 01, 2009 04:01:22 PM
Using the amazing Jordy Bag tutorial, I made this for my old roommate back in Detroit.  She is a huge Detroit Tigers fan and we used to go to games together all the time when I lived there.  I was at the fabric store and found these two remnants next to each other in the clearance bin and knew it was calling to be made into something Smiley

(its about a 8X10 bag finished)

7  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Bob Dylan...in plastic google eyes! on: January 01, 2009 03:50:14 PM
The restaurant I work at displays a bunch of original artwork by a Miami artist named Carl Meyers.  There is one piece that is a man's face that is made out of google eyes that I have coveted since the first day I saw it.  Since a several thousand dollar piece of art is not exactly in the budget right now, I have only been admiring it from afar.

Then, one day a couple months ago while trying to decide what to put up on the wall in my new dining room, I thought why can't I just make something like that. So combined with my love for Bob Dylan, this piece was born.  It is a 24X30 canvas.  It actually turned out to be a fairly fun activity while watching TV and I may end up doing a few smaller pieces for a friend of mine.

8  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Backyard BBQ Christmas...help!! on: December 22, 2008 08:14:31 PM
Okay, so here's the deal.  I am hosting Orphan's Christmas at my house this year (all my single displaced friends who can't be with their families this year - there are quite a few of us).  My house is adorable and perfect for entertaining except for one glaring problem.  My stove is approximately 50 years old.  (I'm serious...I have never seen a stove like this.  It is electric, the oven portion on top and the back two burners pull out like a drawer.  The house is from the 50s and I think its original.) The oven part does not hold a constant temp and I have one working burner. My options for cooking include the one burner, a microwave and a charcoal grill (the benefits of living in Miami!).

Everyone coming knows of the limited cooking situation and are coming with low expectations Smiley  Does anyone have any ideas for some yummy stuff I can make with my limited situation?  I cooked Thanksgiving for pretty much the same group this year, so they know I can cook so I can't completly blow it off.  I am making some of my amazing christmas candy and some no bake cookies and planning to get some stuff to throw on the grill. Anyone have any awesome ideas I can add to this?  If not I'm planning to just supplement with lots of wine...but I see this as kind of a fun challenge Smiley
9  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Wine Cork Cork Board on: December 22, 2008 03:12:44 PM
I work as a server at a restaurant here in Miami (we were in Food and Wine Mag this month - yay!) and one of the perks is all the wine corks you can collect.  I decided a few weeks ago that I needed to do something with some of my stash for the blank wall in the dining room...so cork board it was.  I laid this out with three patterns before settling on this one (of course the most difficult).  The frame is covered in wine labels that I glued on with tacky glue then mod podged to finish. I really like it...I almost don't want to put anything on it.  I have some plans for some more wine cork art for the other wall as well Smiley
