1  Re: Traveling Little Visitor Swap Round 30 GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by Wildfyre on: November 24, 2019 09:26:51 PM
This whole moving thing has been kicking my butt. But Perri did get out to see some of the local sights. Including the Elwha River, wich made national news a while back when they removed the dams so the salmon could return-

(Perri is on the sign)

For Halloween we went to Port Townsend. It's such a great place to Trick or Treat because the entire downtown is still the original Victorian style buildings and it really lends to the spooky atmosphere. Plus the town is very artsy and quirky and people put a ton of effort into their costumes. The kids love it  Grin

Perri arrived a few days ago!
We haven't done anything exciting yet. Last night a raccoon or something dug up a bunch of my plants so we spent today repotting them.

Details of swap:

You will send a Little Visitor (LV) to your partner by October 3rd.  You can send an optional biography (likes/dislikes/personality traits) if you would like to.

Here is a sample BIO from the one of the previous rounds:

You should work on finding/crafting/choosing your LV as soon as you are approved for the swap, since the send-outs are just a few days after partners are matched up.

Post a photo of your LV in the thread.

Once you are accepted into the swap you must post in the gallery frequently and communicate with your partner regularly until the end of the swap. If you are going to be away please let the organizers AND your partner know.

Once you receive your LV, show them around! You should visit at least 10 different areas/parts of town/activities so that they can get the real experience of your community.

You will be required to send at least 15 printed pictures in a scrapbook/journal type thing. Shutterfly (or similar) scrapbooks are great but please plan ahead so they arrive in time.

You are also required to send at least 4 souvenirs/ mementos from the LVs trip. The souvenirs can be crafted, bought, or both. Try to send souvenirs that are unique to your area!

Send your LV home by Feb 29th. It is a long time for the swap to go on, but we want to give the LVs as many excursions as possible!

IF YOU ARE MAILING WITHIN YOUR OWN COUNTRY, YOU MUST GET A TRACKING NUMBER when you send your own LV and when you send your partner's LV back home! If youre mailing internationally, you MUST KEEP YOUR RECEIPT! And we require a picture or scan of the postal receipts so we can verify the date that you sent, and that you did in fact mail your LV to your partner.

To Reiterate:
* Post a photo of your LV in the thread
* Send your LV to your partner by October 3rd
* Provide proof of mailing to your partner and the organizer
* Take your LV around town and show them the sights!
* Keep your LV clean and undamaged - if something happens please check with your LV's "parent" before repairing or running them through the washing machine
* Post photos of your adventures in the gallery once every 2 weeks minimum
* Communicate with your partner often
* Make the scrapbook/journal and make or buy some souvenirs for the LV to remember its trip by.
* Mail the LV, the scrapbook/journal, and the souvenirs back to your partner by February 29th
* Contact organizers when you send/receive - you MUST supply Tracking# or receipt EVERY time you post something.

Hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly backward

Once you are matched up with your partner, please stay in contact with them! If you haven't heard from your partner in a while, please let us (organizers) know right away. I hope we don't have any flakers, but if we do, it's better if we catch them quickly.

THIS IS A COMPLICATED SWAP AND ITS LONGER THAN MOST. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read everything before you sign up, and make sure you can commit to everything.

- Small is better than large. Not only do you have to ship it, your partner has to ship it back! Also, small LVs tend to be easier to haul around town than large ones. ALL LV's must be UNDER 8 inches tall by 6 inches wide.
- Please make sure your LV is durable enough to survive when traveling around in someone's bag, pocket, etc.  We don't want any injuries!
- swaps arent perfect, and neither is the mail system. Please dont send something youd be heartbroken to lose.
- Your partner might have allergies, so its best not to send something your cat eats to cuddle up with or thats been sitting on a shelf next to your incense collection!
- LV must be a stuffed animal

If you want to participate, PM me your info (see below) AND post here on the thread.

Please put LV SWAP ROUND 30- Approval as the subject!!! Send your completed questionnaire to the organizer (Wildfyre). Failure to do so may delay your entry into the swap.

Aww thank you guys. It's definitely the worst part about having pets, they have such short lives  Cry

Yesterday we took a family road trip down to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest to try to cheer everyone up a bit. We looked for agates in a creek, got caught in a thunderstorm, and survived the 4 hour (each way!) drive with a 7yo and 2yo  Roll Eyes My passion in life is Botany, and I'm obsessed with carnivorous plants, so I was ecstatic to find one of our native carnivores too!

The highest point of our drive, 4,350' in elevation.

Thanks to the thunderstorms, this is the best view we had of Mt Adams

Echo has been busy this summer! We flew to Sitka to go house hunting and she may get to go back with me next month when we close-

Here in Washington we've been exploring the Olympic Peninsula.
We found some elk-

sailboats off Marrowstone Island-

and we hatched a ton of baby Praying Mantids

Our 16 year old golden retriever passed away last week  Cry so it brought our trips to a standstill. But I'm hoping to get back out exploring next week.

For spring break we went to south-central Alaska to visit family and show the kids where I grew up. The flights were problematic - one plane had engine trouble so we were bumped to the next flight and by the time we arrived I'd been awake 26 hours, then I had to drive 3 hours to get to the hotel  Tongue But we made it! And Echo got to see a lot of sights while we were there.

So far I've only gone through photos from the SeaLife Center in Seward, but here are a few of them Smiley

Pretending to be dinner

This sea lion was obsessed with the kids. She followed them from window to window

The flight, not sure which glacier that is

Echo has arrived! I had to circle him in the photo, but I swear he's there! We took him along to work on the boat yesterday Smiley

Baranof came home from his visit to California with a fantastic scrapbook and souvenirs!

There was a little light up cube that didn't make the group shot because my toddler snapped it up-

Thank you so much RaraAvis!
