1  Re: Traveling Little Visitor Swap Round 25 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Wildfyre on: September 05, 2017 10:00:06 PM
So this is why I've been absent. Here's Alby posing with our son who was born August 2nd.  Grin

Then it was back to fishing. We saw humpback whales bubblefeeding in Chatham Strait. I couldn't get a photo with Alby and the bubblefeeding though  Sad

Next a bunch of Dall's Porpoises followed us "bow riding" for about half an hour Smiley

We've been crazy busy fishing but Alby has been meeting all sorts of interesting sea life  Grin Here he is with a pyrosome. Pyrosomes have been all over the news here because they aren't usually found this far north but showed up this spring in enormous numbers.

And here is Alby watching the guys unload the fish hold. It was my 5 year olds first time helping with the actual unloading  Smiley

I'm so behind!
On our way up an earthquake damaged the undersea cables that provide our internet up here and it just hasn't seemed to get completely back to normal. AT&T has been "upgrading" data services at the same time which has led to a huge part of the local population being unable to use data on their phones at all, including me  Sad

But we are in town for 3 or 4 days now so I'll head to the library and get some more photos processed and uploaded as quickly as they will upload.

A friend of ours is a tour bus driver so we took Alby along on one of her tours last week. These are photos from our stop at the Alaska Raptor Center-

The flight center where Eagles who will be released are kept while they heal and practice flying again. The windows are heavily tinted so the eagles can't see the people, which makes it hard to get a good photo.

Alby arrived in Sitka just in time for some amazing weather (especially considering this is a rainforest).

We've been walking the Sitka National Historical Park a lot. So we hope to get a photo of Alby with every totem pole Smiley

Looking back at Sitka and Mt Edgecumbe from the beach at the park

and of course, bear resistant garbage cans.. but this one had a neat picture of a bear on it.

Alby arrived a few days ago but it's been one rain storm after another so we haven't had many good photo ops. So today we took him down to see the boat he will spend the summer on. Hubby and son agreed to hold Alby on the bow so he didn't fall overboard Smiley

Once we get everything put back together he will get a tour of the inside, plus we haul the whole thing out of the water Thursday which always makes for fun photos Smiley

7  Traveling Little Visitor Swap Round 25 (SU 03/16-03/29 SO 04/05 and 09/15) in ACTIVE SWAPS WHERE SIGN-UP PERIOD HAS CLOSED by Wildfyre on: March 16, 2017 05:46:00 PM
GALLERY! https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=451993.0

NOTICE: Due to issues the past few rounds with people who hadnt read this entire post, we are now asking a few additional questions in the questionnaire. I will be hiding a few Easter Eggs throughout this post and correct answers to the questions will be required in order to be accepted in the swap.

This is a LONG swap.

This cannot be your first Craftster swap; no exceptions.

To minimize flakers and keep everyone involved in the swap, good communication is a requirement. You must post in the gallery once every two weeks. Please think about this before signing up, this is a long swap and participants put months of effort into it. The past two rounds I've had a lot of complaints about participants disappearing until last send outs. What makes this swap so much fun is seeing your LV experience new ways of life, new locations, and making new friends. So frequent posts in the gallery and communication with your partner is a swap REQUIREMENT.

We reserve the right to refuse anyone. If you have swap feedback that shows a history of incomplete swaps, late sending, ill-communication, lack of tracking #'s, etc., we may refuse you. We want this to be a flake-free swap!

*Participants who have sent more than two weeks late in previous little visitor swaps may not join this round.

Details of swap:

LV = LITTLE VISITOR

Here is a sample BIO from the one of the previous rounds:
http://thestuffmaker.livejournal.com/11346.html

You should work on finding/crafting/choosing your LV as soon as you are approved for the swap, since the send-outs are about a week after partners are matched up.

Post a photo of your LV in the thread.

Once you are accepted into the swap you must post in the gallery frequently and communicate with your partner regularly until the end of the swap. If you are going to be away please let the organizers AND your partner know.

Once you receive your LV, show them around! You should visit at least 10 different areas/parts of town/activities so that they can get the real experience of your community.

You will be required to send at least 15 printed pictures in a scrapbook/journal type thing. Shutterfly (or similar) scrapbooks are great but please plan ahead so they arrive in time.

You are also required to send at least 4 souvenirs/ mementos from the LVs trip. The souvenirs can be crafted, bought, or both. Try to send souvenirs that are unique to your area!

Send your LV home by September 15 2017. It is a long time for the swap to go on, but we want to give the LVs as many excursions as possible!

IF YOU ARE MAILING WITHIN YOUR OWN COUNTRY, YOU MUST GET A TRACKING NUMBER when you send your own LV and when you send your partner's LV back home! If youre mailing internationally, you MUST KEEP YOUR RECEIPT! And we require a picture or scan of the postal receipts so we can verify the date that you sent, and that you did in fact mail your LV to your partner.

To Reiterate:
* Post a photo of your LV in the thread
* Send your LV to your partner by April 5th 2017
* Provide proof of mailing to your partner and the organizer
* Take your LV around town and show them the sights!
* Keep your LV clean and undamaged - if something happens please check with your LV's "parent" before repairing or running them through the washing machine
* Post photos of your adventures in the gallery once every 2 weeks minimum
* Communicate with your partner often
* Make the scrapbook/journal and make or buy some souvenirs for the LV to remember its trip by.
* Mail the LV, the scrapbook/journal, and the souvenirs back to your partner by September 15th 2017
* Contact organizers when you send/receive - you MUST supply Tracking# or receipt EVERY time you post something.

Once you are matched up with your partner, please stay in contact with them! If you haven't heard from your partner in a while, please let us (organizers) know right away. I hope we don't have any flakers, but if we do, it's better if we catch them quickly.

THIS IS A COMPLICATED SWAP AND ITS LONGER THAN MOST. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read everything before you sign up, and make sure you can commit to everything.

The Hawaiian state bird is the Nene

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE CHOOSING A STUFFY TO SEND
- Small is better than large. Not only do you have to ship it, your partner has to ship it back! Also, small LVs tend to be easier to haul around town than large ones. ALL LV's must be UNDER 8 inches tall by 6 inches wide.
- Please make sure your LV is durable enough to survive when traveling around in someone's bag, pocket, etc.  We don't want any injuries!
- swaps arent perfect, and neither is the mail system. Please dont send something youd be heartbroken to lose. There have also been flakers in previous rounds.
- Your partner might have allergies, so its best not to send something your cat eats to cuddle up with or thats been sitting on a shelf next to your incense collection!
- LV doesnt have to be a stuffed animal, feel free to send some sort of a doll/plastic toy/stuffed animal/poppet instead!

If you want to participate, PM me your info (see below) AND post here on the thread.

Please put LV SWAP ROUND 25- Approval as the subject!!! Send your completed questionnaire to the organizer (Wildfyre). Failure to do so may delay your entry into the swap.

*Please note* We are no longer allowing people to pick their partners beforehand. I'm sorry, I know it was popular, but it made our job harder when sign outs ended because we had so few people to work with while assigning partners. The longer this swap goes on the more difficult it is to send LV's places they haven't been before while also respecting allergy issues etc.

This weekend we took Betty to see the Elwha River and Lake Crescent Smiley

The Elwha River, it made national news when they tore down the dam to restore the salmon runs. We wanted to get to the old dam site but the road was washed out by flooding. So we will try to hike up there in a few days.

We are still here. Morning sickness has been kicking my butt since Christmas though.
My lens fell out of my camera bag at a Christmas gathering and hasn't been the same since, so sorry if the color/sharpness is a bit off in the photos. A new one is on it's way.

Betty had a busy couple weeks. We had to replace all the signal flares on the boat so we lit off the old ones at the inlaws remote property so we could all practice using them and stay familiar with how they work.

We went to my Mom's for Christmas. Betty was helping check the turkey -

then a little tree climbing to check out the ornaments-

Then the last week of December we had to do a bit more crabbing before the season ended the 31st.
Betty checking out the crab in the tote we bring them home in -

and posing with one that kept trying to pinch her (don't worry, we kept her just out of reach)

Baranof brought so many goodies home! I'm so sorry it took me so long to get this up.

He even brought us our very own Nessie! My son was thrilled since he'd had a very hard time saying goodbye to Nessie when she left.

There was also a bag of gummy candy that was AMAZING, but it didn't make it to the photoshoot  Roll Eyes
