Ok, trying this again... I haven't had the best luck at getting photos on here this month  Sad

So today we took Tuscany to the Alaska Raptor Center, a state of the art rehabilitation center for all types of birds from Eagles to hummingbirds Smiley

Close up of one of the eagles because there is someone in Tuscany's family that loves eagles -

My 6 yo loves to "help" with this swap. He bought a stuffed owl today and decided that it and  Tuscany are best friends. So here they are hugging in front of the eagles

We've done a fair bit of hiking the past few weeks. Here are a few of our favorite shots with Tuscany-

Hiking up to Beaver Lake, the kiddo's favorite part of the trail is where it goes between two large rocks. So he wanted to hold Tuscany for a photo

Up in the valley, hiking around Beaver Lake

Carnivorous plants have been an obsession of mine since I was 8. This is a teeny tiny native carnivorous plant called Butterwort (Pinguicula villosa)

Waterfall on the way down from Beaver Lake

The squid have been hanging out under the dock near our boat at night, so my 6 year old scooped a few up for photos with Tuscany. Dont worry, we kept her from getting inked :-)

On our way to Sitka the ferry stopped in Ketchikan for a few hours. It was still pretty peaceful and quiet. The first cruise ship of the year hasnt arrived yet.

In Sitka weve been doing some hiking. Today we hiked the cross trail-

Bald eagles are everywhere this time of year- on every light pole, on our boat, in the trees, everywhere.
Here Tuscany is posing in the lounge at the processor we sell our fish too. An eagle landed on the poles of a boat that was unloading.

6  Traveling Little Visitor Swap Round 27 (SU 3/5-3/25 SO 04/3 and 09/20) in ACTIVE SWAPS WHERE SIGN-UP PERIOD HAS CLOSED by Wildfyre on: March 05, 2018 12:35:27 PM
Gallery - https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=454601.0

This is a LONG swap.

This cannot be your first Craftster swap; no exceptions.

To minimize flakers and keep everyone involved in the swap, good communication is a requirement. You must post in the gallery once every two weeks. Please think about this before signing up, this is a long swap and participants put months of effort into it. The past two rounds I've had a lot of complaints about participants disappearing until last send outs. What makes this swap so much fun is seeing your LV experience new ways of life, new locations, and making new friends. So frequent posts in the gallery and communication with your partner is a swap REQUIREMENT.

We reserve the right to refuse anyone. If you have swap feedback that shows a history of incomplete swaps, late sending, ill-communication, lack of tracking #'s, etc., we may refuse you. We want this to be a flake-free swap!

Here is a sample BIO from the one of the previous rounds:
http://thestuffmaker.livejournal.com/11346.html

You should work on finding/crafting/choosing your LV as soon as you are approved for the swap, since the send-outs are about a week after partners are matched up.

Post a photo of your LV in the thread.

Once you are accepted into the swap you must post in the gallery frequently and communicate with your partner regularly until the end of the swap. If you are going to be away please let the organizers AND your partner know.

Once you receive your LV, show them around! You should visit at least 10 different areas/parts of town/activities so that they can get the real experience of your community.

You will be required to send at least 15 printed pictures in a scrapbook/journal type thing. Shutterfly (or similar) scrapbooks are great but please plan ahead so they arrive in time.

You are also required to send at least 4 souvenirs/ mementos from the LVs trip. The souvenirs can be crafted, bought, or both. Try to send souvenirs that are unique to your area!

Send your LV home by September 20 2018. It is a long time for the swap to go on, but we want to give the LVs as many excursions as possible!

IF YOU ARE MAILING WITHIN YOUR OWN COUNTRY, YOU MUST GET A TRACKING NUMBER when you send your own LV and when you send your partner's LV back home! If youre mailing internationally, you MUST KEEP YOUR RECEIPT! And we require a picture or scan of the postal receipts so we can verify the date that you sent, and that you did in fact mail your LV to your partner.

* Make the scrapbook/journal and make or buy some souvenirs for the LV to remember its trip by.

* Contact organizers when you send/receive - you MUST supply Tracking# or receipt EVERY time you post something.

Once you are matched up with your partner, please stay in contact with them! If you haven't heard from your partner in a while, please let us (organizers) know right away. I hope we don't have any flakers, but if we do, it's better if we catch them quickly.

THIS IS A COMPLICATED SWAP AND ITS LONGER THAN MOST. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read everything before you sign up, and make sure you can commit to everything.

British Columbias provincial mammal is the Spirit Bear

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE CHOOSING A STUFFY TO SEND
- Small is better than large. Not only do you have to ship it, your partner has to ship it back! Also, small LVs tend to be easier to haul around town than large ones. ALL LV's must be UNDER 8 inches tall by 6 inches wide.
- Please make sure your LV is durable enough to survive when traveling around in someone's bag, pocket, etc.  We don't want any injuries!
- swaps arent perfect, and neither is the mail system. Please dont send something youd be heartbroken to lose. There have also been flakers in previous rounds.
- Your partner might have allergies, so its best not to send something your cat eats to cuddle up with or thats been sitting on a shelf next to your incense collection!
- LV doesnt have to be a stuffed animal, feel free to send some sort of a doll/plastic toy/stuffed animal/poppet instead!

If you want to participate, PM me your info (see below) AND post here on the thread.

Please put LV SWAP ROUND 27- Approval as the subject!!! Send your completed questionnaire to the organizer (Wildfyre). Failure to do so may delay your entry into the swap.

We were in Alaska working on the boat for a week and as luck would have it, our second to last night there was the night Alaska was hit with a 7.9 earthquake. So we woke at 1:30am to tsunami sirens blaring and telling us to evacuate immediately. I have a six year old and a 6 month old so we rushed to dress them and run up the dock to the loaner truck we had from the processing plant and drive to high ground. Sitka has roughly 8,800 residents and the entire "highway" system is 14 miles from end to end. Only two roads go high enough off of that to be considered safe. So everyone is headed up those few roads to the same couple evacuation centers. It's pretty crazy. The truck the processor loaned us had bald tires and it had just snowed so we barely made it up the road. It was chaos. We sat there for hours while the sirens blared, waiting for either the tsunami to hit or the all clear to sound. It finally sounded around 3:30 am. Thankfully the quake wasn't the kind that creates a huge tsunami so the wave was very very small.

I only got one very fuzzy photo of Anana on the dash while we were stuck in traffic -

Before that we did some hiking-

Visited the swans that overwinter around Sitka -

We went to the National Historical Park, but -

We walked around and saw the totem poles anyway Smiley

A view of the harbor with Mt Edgecumbe in the background -

And snow..

We ran out the spit Saturday morning to get a photo of Port Angeles and were surprised to find a pod of Orcas in the harbor! They don't come into the harbor very often.
So I tried to get a photo of Anana with them, but it's kind of hard to tell what they are  Undecided Sorry about the truck door, I had to hurry before they went back down.
