1  The Little Mermaid Family (includes Erik and Ursula) in Halloween Costumes by msfitts13 on: November 01, 2009 01:05:24 PM
My daughter is OBSESSED with the Disney Princesses.  Because her favorite is Ariel (and because I am never one to turn away from dressing the whole family thematically), we all dressed as different characters from The Little Mermaid.

Enjoy the pictures...and thanks for looking!

My daughter as "Ariel":

Handmade detachable purple crepe-backed satin seashell bra and green satin and "fancy fabric" tail.  Purchased leotard and wig.

My husband (in a weird twist of fate) as "Prince Erik":

Blue wool-blend pants, white cotton/poly shirt (over a white T-shirt due to cold weather!) and velveteen sash.  Borrowed boots.

Me as "Ursula the Sea Witch":

What?  I always look like this.  Wink
Black velvet with purple poly-ish lining on the tentacles.  Suction cups are fabric covered napkin rings.  Actual sea shells as necklace and earrings.  Purchased wig and lavender T-shirt.

2  Some new animal hats: Sheep and Unicorn! in Crochet: Completed Projects by msfitts13 on: November 11, 2007 06:04:21 PM
Here are some new hat designs I've worked up.  It's a bit hard to tell in the pics, but the sheep is fluffy and the unicorn has a bit of shimmer.  Smiley

Thanks for looking!

3  Toy Story 2 Family in Halloween Costumes by msfitts13 on: November 11, 2007 05:50:09 PM
OK, I posted these in the Scrapbook as well, but here are some pics of my family and I dressed as Woody, Jessie and Stinky Pete from Toy Story 2.  The Woody and Jessie costumes are mostly handmade (with the exception of purchased jeans), even their hats.  The Stinky Pete garments are purchased thrift store clothes except the bandana.

More pics are in the scrapbook of Halloween 2007 Costumes...I just don't know how to link to it.  Sigh.   Roll Eyes

My daughter is a complete Pixar freak, so we decided to dress as Woody, Jessie, and Stinky Pete the Prospector from Toy Story 2.

I made most of the Woody and Jessie costumes--even their hats.  They wore purchased jeans.  The Prospector stuff is all purchased thrift store garments except the bandana.

Family Photo:

No, I am NOT Santa!

Better detail of Jessie's outfit (the shirt has handstitched detail in red):

5  From A to ZEBRA!!! in Crochet: Completed Projects by msfitts13 on: February 23, 2007 05:33:25 PM
OK, I was going to post either a frog or a chicken, but both had been done already.  Here's my latest crochet creation...modeled by the cutest kid in the world.  But then, my hubby and I are partial.  Wink

Side View (so you can better see the stripes)

PS  You can't see it in the pictures, but there are also tassels at the end of the ties to emulate a zebra's tail.

6  Something "Shock"ing in Halloween Costumes by msfitts13 on: January 22, 2007 11:19:57 AM
Here is the Halloween costume I made for my daughter last year.  It's based on the character of Shock (the little witch trick-or-treater) from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas..

It's made from lavendar velvet and purple cotton.  The hair is made from braids of hair from a turquoise wig.

I hope you like it!  Smiley

7  Something "Shock"ing in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by msfitts13 on: January 22, 2007 11:08:28 AM
Here is a crocheted stuffed doll I did of "Shock" from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.  I started it YEARS ago, then stuffed it in a box and didn't work on it again until this Christmas.  Because there were some pieces that were already completed, I just continued where I had left off.  It's funny though, I've learned A LOT about crochet techniques since then.  The newer pieces are better constructed, but I suppose nobody would notice that but me.  Smiley

I made her a detachable witch's mask (which you can see her wearing in one of the pictures) as well.

9  Just plain Goofy... in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by msfitts13 on: November 28, 2006 10:22:35 AM
Here is a crocheted Goofy that I created for my friend's birthday.  He is made with a combination of single and double crochet.  I am not sure if he totally qualifies for this challenge but he was created using the same techniques (spiral stitching) for his body.  Loose elements (i.e. his vest, cuffs, and ears) were stitched on separately.  Everything is made of yarn!

I'd love to hear your thoughts....
