1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / funky outside pocket sling bag on: March 03, 2007 05:19:11 AM
I was inpired by Beth's sling bag on her blog: http://stitchriprepeat.blogspot.com/ and took some time yesterday to take a stab at making one.  I used a stripey decorator fabric and a lighter weight brown woven.  I also tried out the fusible fleece for the interfacing and other than having a little trouble fighting with my machiune and a few bulky seems, I think I like it.

Both sides have the exterior brown pocket:

2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / A hobo/sling and a messenger bag on: January 27, 2007 01:48:29 PM
A couple of new bags, but not new styles for me.  One of these days I'll get around to trying a new design, but for now these are making me some $$$$$$!!!!

This messenger bag is made with a yummy nubby black decorator fabric for the main structure and a cotton black tone-on-tone for the accents.  Kind of corporate, but it was requested by my customer to hold her things for work.

Inside shot of the messenger with a hanging key ring holder and divided pockets along one side

My sister sent me this fabric (the paisley used to be a skirt) and she picked out a nice, bright blue polyester for the main body (yikes!  a little too matchy for me.....but she chose it!).  She requested a hobo design

Inside shot.  I originally wanted it to be reversible (hence the reverse pattern) but then I put a magnetic snap on and realized I blew my plan.  Oh well.

Thanks for looking!!!!!
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / black corduroy and pink Star Wars bag on: January 21, 2007 07:12:14 PM
I made this bag for a personal swap and since the recipient has received it I thought I would share a couple of pictures.

The bag is in a messanger style with black corduroy and a flannel pink Star Wars pattern.  I also made a small pouch to go with it.

My first hobo bag made from this fine tute: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=125025.0 by runnermom100863

The brown fabric is a fine corduroy and the other is a fun aqua paisley print.  I hope the recipient likes it!

5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Christmas craft bags for my girls on: December 09, 2006 04:46:14 PM
Here are a couple of bags I whipped up today.  They are going to hold all of the new craft supplies my husband and I bought for our daughters for Christmas.

Now, a couple of months ago I would have made a couple of plain tote bags with maybe a liner.  Thanks to everyone and their great creations on Craftster, I was able to make a more appealing bag by:

1.  Adding pockets in the liner
2.  Adding the contrasting fabric on the handles
3.  Placing the band of fabric at the top
4.  Adding a monogram and machine embroidering it on (not very clean, but it will do)

Thank you to all who share your craftmenship and ideas so willingly and freely.  My girls are going to LOVE their craft bags!!!!

Oh, and I also made a couple of pencil rolls using this tutorial https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=39903.0 by Stefanie 532.

Both bags made with denim and an upholstery fabric with horses (their favorite animal!!!)

Pencil roll.  If you look closely you can see all of the little divided pockets.  We will fill these up with colored pencils and markers!

And finally, the pencil case all rolled up and fasted with elastic.

6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Purse for sister's friend on: December 07, 2006 12:24:38 PM
My sister asked me to make a purse for someone she works with.  The girl is 26, a purse collector, and kind of retro/hippie/free style.  I made the bag with a cherry print in the apron bag style.  It is lined with the red fabric and has a divided pocket with the cherry fabric.  It has a magnetic snap for closure.

What do you think?

7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / I now know why they're called Monster Purses on: November 30, 2006 11:59:12 AM
Because they are a Monster to make!  At least mine was.  Thanks to foureyedgirl for the inspiration and tutorial.  And kudos to ALL who have made one....................

This is for my 2yo niece for Christmas.  I will fill it up with books and gladly say bye-bye to this furry little creature who left blue fuzz over EVERYTHING!!!!!

8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / My take on the magazine bag on: November 14, 2006 11:00:14 AM
I posted this in the Completed Projects along with a few other purses, but since I was inspired by people on this page to try the magazine purse, I will share my photos here as well!

For this one I used full bleed pages from several gardening magazines and cut them into 1-inch strips using my rotary cutter and mat.  I then wrapped each strip in packing tape and wove them together.  I attached interfacing to the back and then just used the woven sheet as a piece of fabric!  My needle needed to be wiped off a couple of times (due to the sticky tape) but it worked surprisingly well!

A second bag I made using the same technique but making the total image smaller to hopefully add to the overall durability of the bag.  I made this as a request for a silent benefit auction for a friend who is going through cancer treatments.

9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / New purse on: November 10, 2006 12:53:47 PM
My friends mom asked me to make a bag for her girlfriend's birthday.  She gave me the houndstooth fabric and said I could do whatever I wanted with it, but stay in the conservative range.

What do you think?  Do you think she will like it?

10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / I tried the zipper pouch and.............. on: November 09, 2006 12:09:17 PM
I got a little obsessed!  I decided to make pouches for my 3 sisters, sister-in-law, and mom for our annual visit on Thanksgiving.  We usually don't exchange gifts for the adults, but I think they will gladly accept these.

The polka-dot ones are the last of my favorite fabric; sadly no longer in production.  The 5th one is actually from a placemat I found at Wal*Mart for 75 cents.  It has a woven texture and I must go find another to make one for myself.

I went to another store to find the 'diamond' letters and the cute little metal hangy-thing.

Thanks to e.r.i.k.a. https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=22875.0 for the tut!
