1  My First Claire in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by mahkev on: April 27, 2009 03:57:17 PM
wow I haven't posted here is a very long time, and now now have my very own little one, so its more fun,

I bought the portobello pixie patterns at a coop and just now got to use one

I went with the Claire pattern for the round apron dress

I thought it was pretty easy, and I get easily confused, I didn't add the apron strap yet, wasn't sure if I needed it, but I think it would make it fit better.  I also didn't realize until I was taking the pictures that the print on the bottom is sideways, woops  Wink

well onto the pictures and my new model  Smiley

fabric is from Amy Butler Nigella (I think)

and an ever so popular pinafore for her, I love these, so easy to take on and off, and super easy to make

Fabric is hippos from IKEA and pink side was hemmed off from her curtains (From IKEA) in her room that I dyed pink

2  My Black Apple Dolls from Martha in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by mahkev on: March 15, 2008 02:38:28 PM
I recently saw an episode of Martha Stewart and she had Etsy seller Black apple on her show demonstrating how to make her black apple dolls

I couldn't resist making my own immediately after watching the show, so here is what I whipped up in no time

4 super cute dolls, one for my baby to be and 3 more for my nieces!

you can find the pattern and tute here... http://www.marthastewart.com/article/black-apple-doll

3  maternity Jeans in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by mahkev on: February 10, 2008 04:35:09 PM
I found this super easy tute for making maternity jeans, I wasnt sure where to cut the pants so this tute helped me out a lot

I used some old jeans I had that I haven't worn in years, and bravely cut them to create these
the top is from a stretchy tank top that I have a million of, I looked at the belly bands from the store and they are made of nylon and spandex, which is was my tank was made of

I stretched the top as much as I could on me and then sewed a new seam to make is smaller in circumference and then cut the top strap part off

in the pix I have it folded over by half, I haven't decided how big of a panel I want so I just folded it over for now, these jeans are fairly tight on me and have no stretch so I think that helps them stay up

when I do this again I think I will find some thicker material for the top, its super comfy but I'm not sure its that great to hold things up

bad angle here but ask and you shall receive

4  redskins cloth diaper - my favorite so far in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by mahkev on: February 04, 2008 06:53:21 PM
This is my most favorite I have made... I just had to share

I still need to clip some stray threads, but this is hot off the machine

it has PUL outer fabric and velour inner fabric and a welt pocket opening for stuffing
I used a combination of the darling diaper pattern and the welt pocket from KCK one

I used a dark tshirt transfer for the image, Im sure it wont hold up well with repeated hot washing but its cute for now!!

6  Square cosmetic/knitting bag with fun green hippos from ikea in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by mahkev on: November 27, 2007 11:20:43 AM
I've seen these types of bags everywhere for knitting and I always thought they were really cute, I searched for tutes all over and used a few to come up with this, its actually fairly easy, much more than I thought it would be.

I used some fun fabric from ikea, Ive seen on here before, green with cute white hippos, lined it with some pink cotton, a black 9 inch zipper was all I had here to use and the handle is pink with white polka dot grosgrain ribbon

everything I already had so even more fun, I didn't have to buy anything extra

The most difficult part for me was getting the corner seams even, where you sew the triangles, I had to do it twice, I also would use more stiffer interfacing when I make another, this one is really floppy, I just used what I

here's where I got most of my tips from http://dragoknit.blogspot.com/2007/02/box-bag-tutorial.html

here's some pix

8  Childrens Cotton Hat and mittens in cute hand dyed pink yarn - new pix! in Knitting: Completed Projects by mahkev on: October 08, 2007 11:25:27 AM
This really is a last minute knitted gift for my niece's bday next week, very quickly knit adn I added some mittens to use up the leftovers

Well I really like this yarn, it is so soft, but of course cotton can really cramp your hands when knitting

I used some of my homemade DPNs since I haven't purchased many different sizes, this was the closest I had for the yarn, I did get gauge perfectly though

The flower is from Nicky Epstein Knitting Flowers

I decided to keep the same ribbon as before

and the mittens are from Ravelry http://www.geocities.com/blossomknitwear/superquickbabymitts
I knit them in the round and grafted the tops so there are no seams, unlike the pattern, this helped them keep their shape, I tried seaming first and they looked awful, I assume from the type of yarn

For Hat:
Pattern: Children's Cotton Hats from Last Minute Knitted Gifts
Yarn: Patagonia Nature Cotton, 214
Needles: Handmade size "8" DPNS
Size: Toddler
Notes: no modifications to actual pattern, gauge was exactly as for pattern

I made some mods for the mittens but I didnt write it down, just adjusted amount of stitches for the weight of the yarn

9  Re: chopstick/dowel knitting needle tutorial in Knitting: Completed Projects by mahkev on: September 28, 2007 11:44:33 AM
I love my polka dots Ive been making, these are not stained, but some of them I have stained and they are so fun to knit with, this particular dowel I used is coated with polyurethane and is so super smooth, the smoothest I have been able to fin, I get the dowels from Dick Blick arts supply, barely any sanding is needed  - I want some for every holiday now

10  Re: TUTORIAL: Straight Sided Triangular Cosmetic Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by mahkev on: September 16, 2007 06:57:08 PM
I was inspired again by everyone to make another bag, since my first one wasnt all that great, I learned from my mistakes and made this one, also inspired by that last polka dot one, this is black with hot pink polka dots, my camera was making the pictures not as true to color and the fabric looks weird in the first picture

I even tried out a cute little tag for the fun of it, printed on iron paper and transfered to a pink ribbon, when I pinned into the seam, the needle left a little hole in it, woops
