1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / messenger / travel bag - with pretty maidens! on: December 03, 2009 03:00:57 PM
hello! i'm excited that I've just (almost) finished my new bag! I was sick of not being able to find a day bag that suits me when I'm travelling, so I found some funky fabric and made my own, and I am molto happy with it  Grin
I used LauPre's tute for easy zip pockets and the Heart of Mary tute for putting the whole thing together. It doesn't have a strap yet as the one I cut is a bit too short for my liking, so I will probably pick up some strap/webbing/whatever its called on the weekend to finish it. I love it! roll on the pix:

thanks for looking Smiley
2  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Hook case on: September 21, 2009 04:24:20 AM
After a weekend of stressful crochet, I knocked this up to, as my friend put it, get my confidence back:

And I am happy to have somewhere to put all my bits n bobs

Pattern can be found here, but I added the pocket at the end:

Thanks for looking! CnC welcome
3  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Meet Ivan and Alexander, the gloves on: September 21, 2009 04:21:37 AM
It all started with a friend saying, oh I can never find gloves to fit me...so, what do I do? I offered to make some (Oh sure, it will be a challenge  Cool )
So here are Ivan and Alexander. Ivan, cos they were so terrible to make, Alexander cos they're a great achievement for me to finish (I've started these about 5 times since April). These are unblocked right now, but I am sooo happy they're done I had to post!

Was thinking of adding a tab along the cuff where the buttons are, a la driving gloves, but not sure it's necessary

Pattern can be found here (I made several modifications)

Thanks for looking!! CnC welcome

4  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / More from THH - spring in winter, pdq & FBB on: September 13, 2009 06:27:12 AM
A woman at my work gave me bags of yarn when she found out I crochet, so I made these hats for her as a thank you:
The left on is the hat from Spring in winter, as are both the flowers, the right one is based on the PDQ:

The green yarn is actually a baby-pastel-mint-green if you know what I mean, and I didn't realise until I took pix, these kind of look like baby hats, but for adults...oh well Roll Eyes

and for me, an FBB since my old handbag died - its a bit stretched since I been using it for a couple weeks already. The handle and lining are salvaged from the old handbag. I also need to put something pretty on it to brighten it up.

Thanks for looking!

5  COOKING / Dessert / cupcake goodness on: June 03, 2009 03:18:31 PM
So I'm not amazing at baking, but I do like making sweet things, and even better I have a team at my work willing to eat it all  Cheesy (its not really fun baking for 1). I started making birthday cakes for people but cupcakes are much easier to divide between 12 people. These are my latest:
Orange and white chocolate sponge:

the recipe is actually for a big cake, which I have also made but this time I wanted to make angel cakes. Its such a super easy recipe and has worked perfectly both times.

Chocolate cupcakes made with yummmmmmy recipe from allrecipies

aaaand Nigella's chocolate raspberry pavlova. v. messy to divvy up, but oh so amazing to eat.

Thanks for checking them out!  Smiley If anyone wants the recipes let me know, I'll find the links
6  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / (tattoo hiding) wrist cuff on: March 29, 2009 03:10:13 PM

so, I got my first tattoo a couple months ago, on my inside wrist   Cheesy
Problem, my mother is coming to visit and she's not exactly into tattoos. solution, a tattoo-hiding wrist cuff:

now, it does the job, but...is it cool?

c&c welcome!
7  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Woo! a year's worth of happy hooker-ing on: February 27, 2009 12:01:47 PM
Hi everyone!
so, I moved halfway round the world last year, and had to retire my sewing machine to my mum  Sad What is a girl to do when she is in need of portable craft? Crochet! Although I can crochet, I never bothered to much with it when I could sew instead, but now I was without my machine, and in need of craft, I bought myself some hooks and the Happy Hooker and got started. Without further ado:
Exchange bag (hard to see in black, I know)

Sweetpea shawl

Seija set

Stripes and stripes scarf

and a random, not HH scarf, that was made on 2 train rides, a bus ride and a couple of tube trips, in across 3 countries.

Thanks for looking!

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Apron from dish towel on: January 15, 2008 05:11:56 PM
- with pretty flowers & checks  Cheesy
So, I made this for a friend of mine from a dish towel with Australian wildflowers on it. I thought it needed something more than the usual dish-towel-to-apron conversion, but the idea just kind of kept growing as I was sewing it. It went from being one-way to reversible and that brought on a whole new challenge with bias binding. Anyway, I hope she likes it, and I hope you do too. Comments appreciated.

9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / opinions please? botched up applique on bag on: April 09, 2007 06:03:49 AM
Hi, so I'm not sure if this goes here, but this is the right place for the end product. I'm making a make-up bag for my friend (who is always happy and smiley) and so I made a "little miss sunshine" to applique for the bag. But, as it's my first attempt at machine applique, it looks a little....amateur. It's for a birthday present, but now I'm not sure if it just looks childish (not the super-cool I was going for).
So, would you give this to your friend?

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / 1st recon - 1 ugly top --> 1 wearable top on: November 04, 2006 06:58:48 AM
hi everyone,
like many other newbies, I have been lurking on crafster for a while, making plans in my head to recon heaps of my clothes with all the inspiration I found here. Now, I've just (almost) finished my very first recon!
Here's the original ugly grandma top (no really, my mum made it for my grandma to wear but it didn't fit her):
and my wearable new top:
I'm also debating whether to topstitch the top with lace, but that's for tomorrow I think.
I hope you like it.
