1  Autumn clothing - warm vest, sweater, shorts! (Picture heavy) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Ginchen on: November 07, 2011 05:10:53 AM
Lately I have developed a new obsession for classic fabrics. Unfortunately my fabric store only sells the most horrible prints that you can imagine, so I can't really do anything with it.
I am very successful in procrastinating which leads to sewing projects like these.

But let's start with a pair of shorts that I made about 5 years ago. I think they might be the 3rd or 4th item I've ever sewn. So they are very wonky and messy but if you cover the waistband with a sweater or a top I think they are absolutely adorable ^^ I wear them so often and I never shared them with you guys. Here they are. I think the fabric is some kind of cord. I can't really tell to be honest..

With my new sweater.

The left button is for the closure, the right button just for decoration. There is a zipper too. It looks so funny, I could never wear it like this ^^

I absolutely looove the loose fit!

Next item is a sweater that I completed a few days ago. It was the first time that I used some kind of border. I think it's a really sweet girly sweater. And it's super warm which makes me look forward to winter.

The back + shorts Wink

On my dressform

Detail of the adjustable neckline. I just made a tube with 2 buttonholes and a ribbon-like strap.

Detail of the strap.

Black shimmery houndstooth fabric for the collar.

Ok last item Smiley I bought this fabric about one year ago. At first I wanted to make a cape but then I decided to do a winter vest instead. I didn't have any fabric for lining at home when I made it so it has to stay like that. I haven't added any buttons or closures yet. I might in the future Wink At the moment it works with a belt and a safety pin.

On my dressform with a different belt.

I love that you can play with the collar.

Detail Smiley

Now I gotta go to class. Let me know what you think. Sorry for the exaggerated amount of pictures Wink

2  Ready for summer? Pleat skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Ginchen on: July 22, 2011 07:55:32 AM
After long days of studying for an important exam I finally have the time to get some sewing done. I realized that there is an unhealthy balance between tops and bottoms so I had to make a skirt Cheesy

The waistband is reconstructed from an old sweater my roommate gave me. I got the other fabric from the weekly flea market - it's like heaven when the fabric lady sells her stuff there. It's so cheap and nice!

I love how it turned out, especially cuz it doesn't need a zipper.

3  For dramatic twirls - houndstooth circle skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Ginchen on: June 04, 2011 07:58:11 AM
It's been one of these days when it was beautiful outside and friends kept asking me to join them having drinks at the beach. That day I already went to a bar close to the beach in the morning so I couldn't motivate myself to go there again. Nevertheless I guess I needed a good excuse not to go. So I made a skirt.
I bought the fabric about 1 year ago and always thought of a making a little black dress. But I haven't realized this thought yet so I took half of the fabric to make this simple circle skirt.
It's a little elastic, that's why it bunches up a little at the waist.

(My gosh, I kinda look like my furniture o.O)

Action shot... feels so stupid with a self-timer

When I flip over the waistband I can wear it like a low-waisted skirt

(What an expression on my face Cheesy )

The golden zipper in the back

4  Elegant and still comfy - another jacket in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Ginchen on: May 01, 2011 06:32:42 AM
Two days after having finished this jacket https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=379339.0 I went to the weekly flea market and bought a huge pile of fabric that some design students had left over.
So this is the result of my saturday afternoon: same pattern, different style. I just love it Smiley

5  They call me "Urban Zebra" in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Ginchen on: April 28, 2011 10:32:00 AM
After 8 months abroad in France with just 2 suitcases of personal belongings coming back home is like a big birthday party. So many beloved things had to stay in ugly boxes in the basement for half a year and it's just great to unpack them Cheesy

You can imagine the great reunion between me and my sewing machine Wink So this is the first project after the long abstinent period:

It's a variation of my favorite jacket. I drafted my own pattern with the help of the already existing jacket which wasn't too hard. Nevertheless it took quite some type to sew this baby because the material is really light and hard to handle. Moreover it's stripy so everything has to be in order... more or less Wink

Hope you like it, I'm sure it's gonna be my summer must-have for this year.

6  Looking forward to summer --> Sporty Shorts in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Ginchen on: March 01, 2010 07:08:24 AM
Despite my massive lack of tan I'm more than ready for summer! I realized that I kept making all these summery tops in the last few months without thinking of something to combine them with. This is my first time to insert a zipper for pants and I was quite scared to screw everything up. That's why I used some scraps of fabric I had stored in my "not ready for rubbish" box. I absolutely love how the shorts turned out so I'm pretty sure that I'm going to make a few more of these  Grin

At the beginning I thought of adding back pockets, too but I think I like them better the way they are right now.

7  The giant bubble in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Ginchen on: February 10, 2010 06:16:04 AM
Some people clean up their room when they should study instead. And there are some people who sew in that situation. This is the work of the last two days Smiley The giant bubble!

(maybe I should clean my mirror someday... i'm sorry^^)

8  Experimenting with leftover fabric --> Top in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Ginchen on: February 06, 2010 07:19:23 AM
I made my graduation dress 2 years ago and I was so scared to screw up everything. That's why I bought so many yards of this cheap green satin. Now there's tons of it left and I don't know what to do with it... so I decided to experiment a little...

That's what came out: it's waaaay too tight for me (maybe I should buy a dressform in my size...), so I don't know if I'm ever going to wear it.. and I hate that little dart in the middle of the bust part which I had to add due to fitting issues..

Anyway, I really like the "sleeves", the colour and the thought behind the construction Wink

yay no arms!

9  Short jacket in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Ginchen on: November 25, 2009 01:26:53 PM
I finally got a "sort of dressform" (with a much better body than mine Wink ) and this is the first piece I sewed with its help. I really wonder why I didn't get one earlier... this piece came out so neat if you compare it to my other stuff... well, I've learned my lesson and proudly present you my first little jacket!

I finished it 2 months ago but somehow I thought that something was missing. So, a few minutes ago, I added the black parts (so typical... yeeha, I'm developing my own style Smiley )

It can be worn in three different ways:

The sleeves are a little bit puffy which creates the illusion of massive shoulders Cheesy

Tell me what you think! Which way to wear do you prefer?

10  I love holidays --> Shirts'n'Skirts (picture heavy) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Ginchen on: September 21, 2009 12:48:18 PM
Since I have loooots of time at the moment I try to sew as much as possible. So far, this is the result:

1) "The contrary of 'heavy'" - a little bit see-through and sooo light

2) "Boredom and friends" - don't really like it, I think I'm gonna wear it while painting or sth like that ^^

3) "Whirl baby!" - some strange fabric my mother gave me, so much fun to wear! I feel like I'm 11 again..

And there's more to come  Grin
