1  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Discussion and Questions / Pattern question when hips and waist are same size. on: August 17, 2015 07:14:44 PM
So far, I've only made a few skirts, all with elastic waists, but want to start by making some skirts and dresses that are not elastic, but have either buttons or zippers. Looking at patterns, I am not sure which size to go with, since when I did a quick hip and waist measurements, I got them being almost the same. Waist was 44, Hips 45.

Looking at not only patterns, but size charts for stores as well, there is always at least several inches between the waist and hip measurements.

When looking at patterns, I'm not sure which size of the two I should be using.
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Pre-washing fabric with unkown content. on: June 12, 2013 10:10:35 PM
While at Wal-Mart the other day I found some fabric that I really liked the feel of for a dress in the $1/yd bin. Being the idiot that I am I didn't think to look at the instructions for washing this fabric. I do know for content it said rennet of indeterminate origin. Since, if possible, I would like to be able to machine wash and dry this dress, should I just pre-wash the fabric like that and not worry about it, or should I hand-wash the fabric, and only hand-wash the dress afterwards

Possibly, it would depend on the pattern since I don't trust myself to try anything to complicated sewing wise.
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Zippered purse on: December 29, 2012 06:59:47 PM
I made this quilt block a few years ago, and completely forgot about it until I was going through my fabric the other day and thought I'd use it for the front of a purse

Back of the purse

Zipper and inside lining. This is my first attempt at making anything with a zipper, or a lining.
6  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Discussion and Questions / What size to make? on: October 08, 2012 07:17:26 PM
I got simplicity pattern 3568, and was about to start making view A, but am not sure what size to cut it out for. If I was going based on bust it would be size 22w, but based on waist it would be 26w.

I have made on shirt before, 10 years ago in home ec class where I had a teacher I could ask for help every step of the way.

I'm afraid that if I make it based on bust measurement it would be to small in the waist, but if I make it for the waist size it would be to big up top.

measurements are: Bust 44, under-bust 38 waist 42

Thank you in advance for any help.
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: Bracelets constantly breaking on: December 12, 2011 09:30:23 PM
Are you saying that the wire or other cording itself is breaking, or that the ends of the wire/cording keep breaking away from their connections to other parts?

The wire, or whatever I'm using for cording keeps breaking on me.
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Bracelets constantly breaking on: December 11, 2011 10:22:03 PM
While I mainly make earnings, I will occasionally attempt to make a bracelet or necklace. The main problem I've found is that I'm hard on jewelry, so it tends to constantly break.

I'm not sure what it is that causes them to break, but have tried a few different materials, including tiger-tail and a few different types of Beadalon Wire.

Should I be using something different for making bracelets?

9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Where do you lay out and pin patterns? on: June 06, 2011 09:22:07 PM
I found a pattern and fabric I like for a skirt. got the pattern piece cut from the pattern, and when I went to go pin the pattern pieces to the fabric, I realized I had no where to lay the fabric out. The largest space I have avalible to work is a little larger then normal office desk. Due to the setup of the house, that is also about the size of the largest floor space available in any one area, but it is also slightly smaller then the largest pattern piece.
10  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Viscoe/Wool Fabric on: December 19, 2010 08:48:49 PM
I recently got some fabric to make a new skirt with. The bolt said it was 74% viscose, and 24% wool. I didn't notice if the bolt had care instructions, or if it did, I forgot to check.

Also is there any tips for dealing with this type of fabric. I love the drape of it, but it also seems to wrinkle just by looking at it.

I have more or less only worked with cotton fabrics before.

The pattern I was going to make with it is Butterick 5366
