1  Re: knit crochet goodie bag swap gallery! in The Swap Gallery by crafty_karen1 on: July 13, 2007 08:19:07 AM
Everyone's goody bags look amazing. I received mine from zero cool at the start of the week. She really did spoil me!

She sent me some lovely patterns, including a bracelet kit. I can't wait to have a go at knitting with wire and my sister has been dropping hints since she saw it. I am listening to the album by Dopamine right now and I love the butterfly stitch markers.

She also sent me some lovely yarn. I'm itching to try them all out. I love the colour of that blue and I also love the white.

Knowing my inabilities to crochet she made me this beautiful scarf and dish clothe. I have a new purple top that this will go perfect with.

Thank you so much zero cool. I loved it all  Grin

3  First attempt at lace knitting in Knitting: Completed Projects by crafty_karen1 on: June 28, 2007 10:48:25 PM
This is my first attempt at lace knitting. I got the pattern from my knitting stitch bible (love that book). It's called lace wheels. Once I got used to it I found it easy. In the beginning though I lost my place a number of times and there was a lot of unravelling. I am putting away the scarf as part of my mum's Christmas.

I love that idea of the gnome going around the world. At least your friend had a sense of humour about it. Do you think it might have been someone she knew?

I liked the travelling Kombi van too. Great pics.

My friend took hers too Italy. Here is Hamish McSporran holding up Pisa.

I have received my parcel from zero cool;

She sent me a copy of "The Island Of Doctor Moreau" by HG Wells. I have read a few of his books but not this one plus it is such a cool little book. She also sent me "Jewelry Craft Made Easy" by Bernada French as I am wanting to learn Jewellery making. She then spoiled me by also sending me a knitting magazine as she knows I am also wanting to learn lace knitting.

Last but not least here are the lovely bookmarks she made for me.

I have finished the bookmark now as well as picked out two books. I plan on sending on Wednesday. Will send a PM as soon as I do.

Thank you so much Zero Cool, I love it.

I stitched these cats by Margaret Sherry as a present for my gran. I am putting them away for her Christmas. The coasters themselves came along with the kit.

7  Re: altered book-Page a month along in Craftalongs by crafty_karen1 on: May 19, 2007 03:30:58 AM
I have finally finished my page for March. I started it in March but due to work I haven't been home much to finish it. I chose Spring as my theme. I painted the base of the page and then I added fabric to it. I stuck down little flowerd to one and embroidered on the other. I have chosen Cherry blossoms for April which I have made a start on and I think I am going to chose mum for this month.

I am going travelling for work soon (no where too exiting) and a friend said that I should make a travelling sock Monkey of my own. So today Mr Sparkles was born. Although you can't see it from this photo he is made from sparkly socks. Turns out sparkly socks don't like to be cut up and stitched as Mr Sparkles looks a little bit worn.

Will post travelling photo's and updates on my myspace page.

9  travelling sock monkey in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by crafty_karen1 on: April 04, 2007 10:39:04 PM
I realise that this could come under toys but I made this sock monkey specifically for travelling. A friend of mine is going away and plans on taking this with her. Wherever she goes she will take a photo of him.

I have also created a myspace page for this which you can find here;

I have since added more travelling sock monkeys to my myspace page. Here are a couple of examples;

This one might be going to Australia

This one is going to a friend of a friend. not sure where he will be travelling to yet.

I also decided to make cards and attach them to the monkeys with ribbon. Inside the cards explains the few things the travelling sock monkeys need such as a name, history and of course to travel.

10  Re: fairy tale swap gallery in The Swap Gallery by crafty_karen1 on: March 24, 2007 12:44:36 AM
I'm posting pics on behalf of Linnybelle.

I took the fairy tale "The Snow Queen". I turned it into a story about fairies who are dying off as humans are expanding. The Queen of the fairies calls on humans with fairy magic to come to them to help save them. Only one boy turns up but he is followed by his sweetheart. It wasn't as detailed as I wanted it to be as I was running out of time. I wrote it in the form of diary entries and newspaper clippings.

Here is what I sent;

I stitched a fairy from my "Cross Stitch Myths and Magic" book and stitched it to a pillow.

I knitted a scarf as the fairies were limited to northern regions. Anyone following them would need something to keep them warm. It is knitted with 100% cotton as Linnybelle would be alergic to it otherwise.

I saw this notebook in an art store and really liked it. I decided to decorate it for Linneybelle. I printed snowflakes onto OHP transparencies and the used acrylic paint to colour them and glitter to add sparkle. The cross stitch design I got from the same book as the fairy. I also attached some ribbon that I got from a recent craft fair.

Lastly a set of notecards. These are actually a set of six. I made two of each. Again I used OHP transparancies for the snowflakes. Linnybelle is moving house so I thought she could use them to let people know her new address. Or she can hang onto them to send out at Christmas.
